[issue23237] Interrupts are lost during readline PyOS_InputHook processing (reopening)
New submission from Michiel de Hoon: This bug was previously reported in http://bugs.python.org/issue3180 but was closed after seven years for being out of date. Still, the bug remains: Interrupts are lost during readline PyOS_InputHook processing. To reproduce the bug, try from Tkinter import * Tk() You will notice that Ctrl-C now does not generate a KeybordInterrupt. This bug appears in all Python versions I tested (Python 2.7, 3.3, 3.4) and, judging from the source code, is still present in the current Python source code in Mercurial. The bug appears both on Mac and on Linux; I do not have access to Windows. The suggested patch at http://bugs.python.org/issue3180 makes multiple changes to the behavior of PyOS_InputHook. In particular, it allows for waiting for a file descriptor other than stdin. I think that this is unrelated to the current bug, so it should not be included in the patch, in particular since that would change the API. -- components: Extension Modules messages: 233997 nosy: Michiel.de.Hoon priority: normal severity: normal status: open title: Interrupts are lost during readline PyOS_InputHook processing (reopening) type: behavior versions: Python 2.7, Python 3.2, Python 3.3, Python 3.4, Python 3.5, Python 3.6 ___ Python tracker rep...@bugs.python.org http://bugs.python.org/issue23237 ___ ___ Python-bugs-list mailing list Unsubscribe: https://mail.python.org/mailman/options/python-bugs-list/archive%40mail-archive.com

[issue23229] add inf, nan, infj, nanj to cmath module
Mark Dickinson added the comment: Is the issue with complex superficial Unfortunately not: something like this is fairly inescapable. The problem is that when you do (for example) 5 - 6j you're in effect subtracting complex(0.0, 6.0) from complex(5.0, 0.0): you've invented a real part of 0.0 for the second term and an imaginary part of 0.0 for the first term. And since 0.0 is *not* an identity for addition (-0.0 + 0.0 is 0.0, not -0.0, under the usual rounding modes), signs of zeros tend to get lost. So the safe way to construct a complex number is to avoid any actual arithmetic by using complex(real_part, imag_part) rather than real_part + imag_part*1j. I rather like Serhiy's idea of making the complex repr have this form, except that the change would probably break existing code. (And the str should really stay in the current expected human-readable format, so the problems with infj and nanj don't go away.) Another possible fix is to introduce a new 'imaginary' type, such that the type of an imaginary literal is now 'imaginary' rather than 'complex', and arithmetic operations like addition can special-case the addition of a float to an 'imaginary' instance to produce a complex number with exactly the right bits. The C standardisation folks already tried this: C99 introduces optional imaginary types and a new _Imaginary keyword, but last time I looked almost none of the popular compilers supported those types. (I think Intel's icc might be an exception.) While this works as a technical solution, IMO the cure is worse than the disease; I don't want to think about the user-confusion that would result from having separate complex and imaginary types. -- ___ Python tracker rep...@bugs.python.org http://bugs.python.org/issue23229 ___ ___ Python-bugs-list mailing list Unsubscribe: https://mail.python.org/mailman/options/python-bugs-list/archive%40mail-archive.com

[issue23236] asyncio: add timeout to StreamReader read methods
STINNER Victor added the comment: Copy of the feature requets by Guido van Rossum: https://code.google.com/p/tulip/issues/detail?id=96 Often you want to stop servicing (or using) a connection when there is no activity in a given time. You can do this by wrapping all your read calls in wait_for(), but a single readline() or readexactly() call may do multiple I/O operations and typically you want to reset the timeout whenever you receive some more bytes. So it makes more sense to either add the timeout to the various read*() calls, or even to (optionally) set it in the constructor, so that the class can implement a more subtle timeout algorithm. I could imagine an overall timeout too, and possibly even something that gives up if the bandwidth goes below a threshold, to avoid waiting forever on a huge download. (For StreamWriter I think it's sufficient to call wait_for(w.drain()), so I think this only applies to StreamReader.) -- ___ Python tracker rep...@bugs.python.org http://bugs.python.org/issue23236 ___ ___ Python-bugs-list mailing list Unsubscribe: https://mail.python.org/mailman/options/python-bugs-list/archive%40mail-archive.com

Jim Jewett added the comment: That sounds like a bug magnet to me; my mental model is that the codec is my output; flushing it will push things out, and resetting it will erase anything pending. I don't care if some implementation detail means that some other object technically owns the buffer. An alternative (inferior, but better than nothing) would be to add an explicit note warning users that reset won't really finish the job, and they have to also get the codec's underlying stream and flush that. Try 008 or 011 and be surprised that python 2 is broken and you'll see why this syntax was removed. -- nosy: +geoffreyspear ___ Python tracker rep...@bugs.python.org http://bugs.python.org/issue23230 ___ ___ Python-bugs-list mailing list Unsubscribe: https://mail.python.org/mailman/options/python-bugs-list/archive%40mail-archive.com

[issue23230] Bug parsing integers with zero padding
New submission from Luis G.F: Python 3.4 interpreter fail to parse a integer that has zero padding, whereas python 2.7 works properly. [issue23230] Bug parsing integers with zero padding
Luis G.F added the comment: Thanks for the response, but in my case, 001 is not an octal literal, is a base-10 zero padded comming from the parsing of a ip string like 111.000.222.333 , where numbers are all integers in base-10. The solution for parsing that seams to cast 000 as string and then using int('000', base=10). -- resolution: - not a bug ___ Python tracker rep...@bugs.python.org http://bugs.python.org/issue23230 ___ ___ Python-bugs-list mailing list Unsubscribe: https://mail.python.org/mailman/options/python-bugs-list/archive%40mail-archive.com
[issue23231] Fix codecs.iterencode/decode() by allowing data parameter to be omitted
New submission from Martin Panter: As mentioned in Issue 20132, iterencode() and iterdecode() only work on text-to-byte codecs, because they assume particular data types when finalizing the incremental codecs. This patch changes the signature of the IncrementalEncoder and IncrementalDecoder methods from IncrementalEncoder.encode(object[, final]) IncrementalEncoder.decode(object[, final]) to IncrementalEncoder.encode([object,] [final]) IncrementalEncoder.decode([object,] [final]) so that iteren/decode(), and perhaps in the future, StreamWriter/Reader, can operate the incremental codec without knowing what kind of data should be processed. -- components: Library (Lib), Unicode files: final-no-object.patch keywords: patch messages: 233932 nosy: ezio.melotti, haypo, vadmium priority: normal severity: normal status: open title: Fix codecs.iterencode/decode() by allowing data parameter to be omitted type: behavior versions: Python 3.5 Added file: http://bugs.python.org/file37691/final-no-object.patch ___ Python tracker rep...@bugs.python.org http://bugs.python.org/issue23231 ___ ___ Python-bugs-list mailing list Unsubscribe: https://mail.python.org/mailman/options/python-bugs-list/archive%40mail-archive.com

R. David Murray added the comment: If it weren't for the fact that this feature is something that the tar command provides, I'd agree (the chown method is relatively short). However, since tar *does* provide this feature, it seems reasonable for us to support it as well. Eric V. Smith added the comment: I don't think we want to encourage the type of coupling that arises from subclassing, especially when when overriding an undocumented method. I'm +1 on the change. [issue22028] Python 3.4.1 Installer ended prematurely (Windows msi)
Martin v. Löwis added the comment: I don't think the installer needs fixing beyond fixing mimetypes. If ensurepip fails, the whole installation ought to fail (IMO); that's the way MSI is supposed to work. It's the same if some other component could not be installed for some reason (permissions, out of disk space, etc): the entire installation gets rolled back. So I disagree with Steve that it would be desirable to let pip installation fail silently. -- ___ Python tracker rep...@bugs.python.org http://bugs.python.org/issue22028 ___ ___ Python-bugs-list mailing list Unsubscribe: https://mail.python.org/mailman/options/python-bugs-list/archive%40mail-archive.com
