In case of /dev/null, the main problem is that it became a regular file. It was
previously a character device. Writing to character devices should not replace
them.
What about problem with symlinks?:

(which seems to create some pickles and next load them?) fails with
MemoryError, e.g. during building of GTK+.
MemoryError occurs only for a subset of pickles.

attr/xattr.h and libattr.so belong to attr package
(http://savannah.nongnu.org/projects/attr).
glibc provides sys/xattr.h and libc.so.
