Whether one ommits --jobs (which should it cause to use the number of cores
according to the docs) or sets it to >1
it doesn't seem to concurrently use more than one CPU.

Fully agree,... basically impossible to find for the average user,..
it's like with, libimage-exiftool-perl which also "hides" the exiftool
program.
Can't you just split the shipped scripts into a package rgain and make
that depend on the python module?
