Are these the RC4 builds? I think it's a bad option not to name the RCs
clearly. It is confusing that the file always has the same name (especially
because the creation date is not visible on the server...)

The RC files are intended to be the same as the final release files if
the vote will be successful. The idea was to name the directory
accordingly but there was a technical problem.

Currently no files are available and the upload will start as soon as
possible (still technical problems on the server).

I have checked a patch from Ariel related to issue 124701 that brings
back some convenience for Linux and Mac user and I think it make sense
to include this in AOO 4.1.

Taking this into account and the not yet available RC4 I would like to
 propose a RC4 on revision 1589052 instead of 1587478.

The latest reported problems with digital signatures can be solved with
setting an additional environment variable on non windows platforms. A
wiki page will be created to describe in detail what the user have to
do. and the release notes will be updated as well. For now you can view
 issue https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=124701 for some

I would like to invite everybody with valid certificates to check and
test this feature in detail and give us feedback.

2014-04-23 Thread Pedro Lino
Hi Juergen

The RC files are intended to be the same as the final release files if
 the vote will be successful.

I am well aware of that. But it *is* possible to have an installer named
4.1.0RC4 and if it is accepted just rename the file. LibreOffice does that.

When the final RC is accepted, the file is simply renamed.

This allows to have RC1, RC2, etc clearly identified instead of having to
guess which RC you are downloading or if the server has a new version.

Just my 2 cents...

Hi,

for most users the difference does not matter, but for QA testers with
lots of downloads and installers on PC that helps to keep overview (I
even would like to see the Revision in the filename). If the RC has
been accepted as Release the files can be renamed.

It's a cost / benefit calculation. If it can be done with few costs I
would like to have at least th RC in the filename as suggested by Pedro.

Well I can see the benefit but I avoided the extra effort so far, will
think about an easy script to do it in the future.

My name is Matthew. I am from northeast United States. I have been

have been writing test automation for about 15 years. This is my first open
source project. I will probably get involved in development as well, but I
would like to learn a lot more about the product , so QA is the place to do
that. The technology I know from work experience is Linux, Java, C++,
Python, Windows, .NET, and C#. The technology I have access to for the
purpose of open source assistance is Mac OS, iPad, python, java, Windows 7.
I have built test automation for GUI¹s , Linux based command line
applications, messaging based applications, and .NET based applications.

Hello Matthew,

Welcome to the Apache OpenOffice project! I'm in the NE as well, in
Massachusetts.

You list an impressive range of skills. We have a Java/Eclipse based
GUI automation testing tool for OpenOffice, where test cases are
written in Java, but it has been neglected recently, since relatively
few QA volunteers know Java. Maybe you want to take a look at it?

In general we're in the end game for the OpenOffice 4.1 release,
hoping to release before the end of the month. I'd expect another
Release Candidate (RC4) in the next few days. They'll be some
targeted testing to verify some fixes, but it will be very limited.
It is a good time to regroup and plan for what we want to do for QA on
the next release.

Have you seen our New Volunteer Orientation page? It has a bunch of
information useful for new volunteers, about Apache, about the
OpenOffice project, as well as a specific page about QA:

http://openoffice.apache.org/orientation/

Scan over those pages at your leisure. The QA page will deserve more
attention since it will lead you to get signed up for the right
mailing lists, wikis, Testlink, Bugzilla -- the tools we use for QA.

Feel free to post back to the list with any questions. I or one of
the other volunteers will try to help.

Regards,

-Rob

I am following the instructions, so I do not yet have a Bugzilla ore test
 link account.

 Matthew

Afaik Bugzilla should be automated, check your spam box. Or try to do it again.

The only manual process is to upgrade your account level to QA auditor.
You have the following permission bits set on your account:
canconfirm Can confirm a bug or mark it a duplicate
editbugsCan edit all bug fields
qa-team Members of the AOO QA team
registered-user All registered users

I also wonder if maybe Yuhzen can help speed out the process.
