OK, I'll do that. It will take me a bit of time - I'll timeframe a week.
Note that I can't know if both VFIO and non-VFIO context suffer the same
bug. For simplicity, I'll peform the bisect using the non-VFIO version,
then, once we have more information, we can decide how to proceed.

I've tried the first configuration (windowed) with the change you
proposed, and I get the same behavior (windows recovery); I didnt' try
the second configuration (VFIO).

Using 2.10, my virtual machine(s) don't work anymore. This happens 100%
of the times.

I use QEMU compiling it from source, on Ubuntu 16.04 amd64. This is the
configure command:
configure --target-list=x86_64-softmmu --enable-debug --enable-gtk
--enable-spice
Thanks! Using the OVMF provided with the Ubuntu 16.04 packages solved
the issue.

QEMU (still) hangs on Windows 7 install

I'm trying to install Windows 7 as guest, but the machine still hangs
(more precisely, the windows icon keeps flashing, but never goes past
this stage).
I think this is a different bug from
https://bugs.launchpad.net/qemu/+bug/1581936.
Specifically, its happens when the
Fails on my machine, even with the HEAD of master as of today
(5d3217340adcb6c4f0e4af5d2b865331eb2ff63d).
