I regularly convert a qcow2 to vmdk format, however the size of the
resulting vmdk image size is always greater than the size of the qcow2
image.
qemu-img convert -f qcow2 foo1.qcow2 -O vmdk foo2.vmdk -p
For a example for a qcow2 image of ~2Gb the resulting vmdk is ~4Gb
