Folks,

with all due respect, it cannot fit in my head HOW can you shut down
a mean of communication that was used for 5000 people and continues to
be used.

Don't mention spam, slowness, login pecularities, hosting - these
are all minor technical issues, fixable.

How can you divert all these people to SE which has stunning 131
topics tagged with QGIS? Compare it with 3767 topics on the forum.

If you think SE is much better - ok, let it outrun forum, so that the
latter will die out gradually.

[Qgis-developer] plugins/providers are not libraries

2011-07-20 Thread William Kyngesburye
Could we get a resolution on this:

http://hub.qgis.org/issues/3999

I've been putting off a Mac dev package for a while, partly while I figure out
osgearth build stuff and partly because I don't want to package it without
GRASS support. (I don't want to use the workaround that may only be working by
luck.)

[Qgis-developer] Print Composer crashing

2011-07-20 Thread Ramon Andinach
Hi all,

I'm not sure if this is related to the Print Composer problems being discussed
on the user list. Thus far I haven't had the white stripe.

I've been having problems where the Print Composer either
a) causes QGIS to crash out-right, or
b) appears to hang then gives a dialogue saying bad allocation, which then
breaks that composer session, and usually crashes QGIS shortly afterwards.

To replicate, I provide a small .zip file
http://www.members.westnet.com.au/ramon_et_al/PrintComposerError.zip
1. Unzip, and open the project.
2. Using the print manager, open one of the compsers.
3. Export to image. If the geology (filled polygon) layer is in the composer,
the the composer will not complete.

I'm having similar problems with printing directly to printer, and to PDF.

I've tried this project out on:
Win7 64-bit using standalone 1.7 install
Win7 64-bit using osgeo 1.7 install (there are debug files from this system
provided)
Win7 64-bit using osgeo 1.8 install
WinXP 32-bit using standalone 1.7 install

I'm fairly sure that its related to something specific in certain vector files.
For instance the polygon file provided is an excerpt of one that is giving me
problems.

Would it be possible for someone to confirm that I'm not hallucinating?
If there is a problem, is it likely to be that there is something about that
file that causes problems? If so, does anyone have any suggestions? I've
pointed the f-tools geometry validation tool at it and nothing came up.

Looks like it's feature 0 of BBGeology500k. QGIS runs out of memory/crashes
when the polygon is drawn in Qt. I didn't find what's causing this yet, but I
found that switching that layer to symbology-ng helps...

2011-07-20 Thread Marco Hugentobler
Hi William

I'm not too deep into the topic (but I remember I had to change the wfs
provider and plugin years ago to avoid direct linking from plugin to provider
because of the plugin/library difference on OS X ).

Has there been any change in the GRASS related code such that a direct link is
necessary? I thought there wasn't any development activity in the GRASS
provider and plugin.

Re: [Qgis-developer] Print Composer crashing

2011-07-20 Thread Ramon Andinach
Hi Joze,

I'm presuming you wanted this back on the list.

Firstly, I can get this without using ECW or large page sizes or high
resolutions.

Secondly, you've got two different problems there.

Large page sizes is a known bug - http://hub.qgis.org/issues/3687

And ECW support for ubuntu was described quite nicely just a few days back on
the user list:
http://lists.osgeo.org/pipermail/qgis-user/2011-July/012732.html
additionally, try here: http://trac.osgeo.org/gdal/wiki/ECW

Hope some of that's a help.

It looks like the symbology-ng work-around will do.

If it helps any, I'm fairly sure that this is another post 1.6 problem.

On a related tangent, what allowed you to identify that particular polygon?
