I did some experiments with the new SIP API with the gdaltools core
plugin.
It's completely untested and incomplete, but if somebody intends to
update the gdal plugin, he should have a look at this diff before
giving it a go.

I believe photos posted within Flickr Groups can be seen without need to
log in (see for e.g. http://www.flickr.com/groups/theleague/pool/). That
being said, it doesn't seem to work for the Flickr QGIS Group set up
