Obviously this is very useful for the serial printing.
My question is: are there other use cases besides the serial printing

displayed as: what is this useful for? It seems just an echo of the
adjoining field Layer name.

You can rename the Layer but the original name still persists ..
So I assume this is the Layer Name displayed as Changedname
