[QGIS-Developer] Change size of Cursor in New Map Window

2021-08-08 Thread Lene Fischer
Hi,
I´m using 'New map window' and in the settings set 'Show cursor position'
But the cursor are so tiny I can hardly see it.
Anyone know how to change this ? - Not 'New glasses' ;-)

[QGIS-Developer] GDAL redirect to path

2020-01-05 Thread Lene Fischer
Hi,
QGIS 3.10.2 on Windows 10
Using several different raster functions I suddenly can´t get the result
because GDAL are directing to Documents.
My Documents are on a server

So I get this error message:

'\\a00143.science.domain\dlt265\Documents'
CMD.EXE was started with the above path as the current directory.
UNC paths are not supported. Defaulting to Windows directory.

Tried to find a place to change the settings for GDAL functions - any
suggestions ?

[QGIS-Developer] Calc default value or Reuse last entered value -bug ?

2019-03-25 Thread Lene Fischer
Hi,
Stumbled into two problems – not sure how to solve:

Have setup an Attribute form and as a default value for area using
‘round($area,1)’ and ‘Apply default value on update’
While digitizing and want to reuse all attributes but the area – I have changed
the Settings- Digitizing to ‘Reuse last entered attribute value’

Works fine for the first feature… but the second feature will then get the
first features area value. I do know ‘You can´t get it all’ – but… I love to be
able the reuse the no-calculated attributes AND get calculated values in the
attribute form.

Second problem – Turning off the ‘Reuse last entered attribute value’ so there
will be no conflict – I now wants to edit the shape of a feature. Using ‘Split
feature’ from ‘Advanced digitizing tool’ I now have two features. Both have
same attribute values except for the calculated value – as expected. BUT one of
the features has the original area value. I expected to get both features
attributes updated.

Any suggestions for my two problems

[QGIS-Developer] Looking for developer to look into a QGIS WFS 2 problem.

2019-03-08 Thread Lene Fischer
Looking for developer to look into a QGIS WFS 2 problem.
I have a question from users In Denmark to get in contact with a developer to
look into a problem with QGIS WFS 2.

Several users has encountered delays in QGIS WFS 2 and errors for WFST
transactions against Geoserver.
Andrea Aimee from Geosolution has debugged in Geoserver and was able to observe
the delays - but not find any errors on the Geoserver side.

Does any of the developers has possibilities to look into this subject from the
perspective of a Windows user. If yes please write to me – and I´ll forward
information.

I just downloaded QGis 3.2.3-Bonn, andthere SCP plugin was included. Now I
struggle with the "Clip multiple raster" function. I can't get hold of the
input files by clicking on the [cid:image003.jpg@01D452BB.9A7CF730] though
both raster and shape files are added. Earlier versions showed the selected
raster, and the shape file name appeared at once when marking in “Use vector
for….”. Is there a bug or am I doing something wrong. So far I haven’t found an
answer in the SCP manual.

Just to clarify, Arne meant that one:

http://plugins.qgis.org/plugins/SemiAutomaticClassificationPlugin/

As Richard said, if your QGIS can access the network, you should see ~800
available plugins in the Plugins -> Manage and Install Plugins menu.

Password recovery was not enabled - because it doesn't work with OSGeo IDs.

As we now also have local/internal accounts I now enabled it and also added a
pointer where to manage OSGeo IDs.

[QGIS-Developer] QGIS Crash - trying to send bugreport...

2018-07-08 Thread Lene Fischer
Hi,
Using QGIS 3.2 I suddenly get a lot of crashes - and I´m trying to figure out
what might cause the problem.
Is it the plugin or is it my data or ...
Now I would like to send a bug report, but I have forgot my username and
password - silly me.

I don´t get any help at the login page and I can´t find help anywhere else - so
the simplest thing would be just forgetting to make a report. I´m sure most
people would think so.

If we want bug reporting from ordinary users - then me have to use another user
friendly platform eg GitLab.

I do know it´s not a simple thing to change system - but this is an issue that
need to be taken serious!

Hi Lene,

we will ship with QGIS only few providers. Additional providers, like OTB, R,
LiDAR, etc
will be available through plugin repository. Right now Processing is under huge
refactoring
(kudos to Nyall for his fantastic work!), so there is no much sense in
releasing plugins.
When API will be stabilised, we will publish other providers in the plugin repo.

I'd be glad to help but haven't had a hands-on with ArcGIS for years ...

Imho, the linked article is the GIS media version of click-bait. Very
superficial, one line per topic. Some of the lines make me question how much
the author knows about GIS technology in general.

Best wishes,

Hi,
sounds good you meet in that part of the world !

Essen hackfest will hold from 29 april to 1st may, that would be nice having
you guys in sync for the hackfest spirit .
Anyway, that would still be a bit asynchronous, since earth is round and you
live somewhere on the other side ;)

PS: I checked
https://www.freemaptools.com/tunnel-to-other-side-of-the-earth.htm and if you
plan a hackfest in Christchurch - NZ and europeans in Galicia, that would be
the exact opposite !

Cheers

we have started planning an IT HF in about the same period.

Hi all,

Martin, Nathan and myself have been chatting about the possibility of a
"mini-hackfest" happening in Australia this May. We figure that while a couple
of us are in the some part of the world it'd be nice to get together and do a
bit of coding!

We've discussed whether we want to do something more formal, like a 1 day user
group meetup or mini conference, but in the end decided to keep things super
simple and informal so we can concentrate on what we do best (hacking) and not
get bogged down in the organisation details.

So basically the rough plan at the moment is just to find a venue, probably in
either Cairns or Darwin, with a room to hack in (and a bar & swimming pool
nearby!).

I realise there's a few contributors here from NZ and south east Asia who may
also be interested in attending. I also realise that there's probably quite a
few Europeans/Americans who may be keen for a good excuse to take a holiday
down here ;) So we're opening up discussions to anyone else who may be
interested in attending.

Just reply via the dev list or directly to Nathan/Martin/myself if you're
interested in getting involved.

Cheers,
Nyall

Re: [Qgis-developer] OTB and LiDAR tools as separate plugins

2017-01-31 Thread Lene Fischer
Hi,

I think it´a good idea to move it to a plugin – installing I a special folder
eg C:\ seem to be hard to understand…. And then setting up the providers…

It´s a bit worring when the users then are working with complicated functions.
But for my students it has for some been an issue.

Installing plugins are installed without issues ☺

Emne: [Qgis-developer] OTB and LiDAR tools as separate plugins

Hi all,

I have set up the OTB and LiDAR tools Processing provider as separate plugins,
each of them in its own repo. The idea is to have those providers that require
3rd party apps outside of the core Processing, so they can be installed
separately and managed independently. Alex Bruy already did that for the TauDEM
provider.

The removal of these two providers is in this PR (yet to be merged)

https://github.com/qgis/QGIS/pull/4076

LiDAR Tools and OTB plugins are in repos in my github account at the moment,
but they will be transfered. The OTB dev team has accepted taking the ownership
of the OTB plugin, and Martin Isenburg (creator of LASTools) will take the
ownership of the LiDAR tools one. They will take care of managing them and
making releases when needed

I hope this will help better organizing these pieces of Processing, and making
it clearer for users how to use these providers.

If you have any comment, please let us know.

Thanks!

Hi Régis,

Yes the hackfest is normally short – and the same will be in Nødebo – but you
also have possibility to take a few days vacation – and stay at the campus.
Perhaps a bikeride in North Sealand or visiting castles or Vikingships. This is
a possibility to both work hard AND time off. Don´t you think this sound as a
good idea ;-)

Surely a lot of the developers are heading for Boston after the Hackfest, so
not sure what the best time for the 4 days of hack would be…

As written in the first mail – more information at the end of this month.

Other question, Usually the hackfests last for three days. Here you point a 9

Re: [Qgis-developer] Hackfests in 2017

2017-01-10 Thread Lene Fischer
Hi Andreas,
I´m trying to re-think the conference/short presentations for a limited crowd.
What if we are having presenters making video presentations and then have
webinars where so many more participants can attend ?
And this summer additionally have 1½ week of workshops…

There are so many conferences this year - both FOSS and QGIS local and
worldwide. Webinars can reach so many more.
Just ideas.

Hi Lene,

Thanks for the information.

Would the second dev meeting in Nødebo also host the annual user conference?
Would be sad if we would give up on the user conference only after two years ...

Thanks,

Andreas

Hi Nathan,
I think this is a good idea.
But then I would suggest that the Project Properties to the Project menu.
Secondly move Plugins right after the QGIS – So the rank would be: QGIS -
Project – Layer – Processing - Edit – View – Vector – Raster …
Users also often ask for a Print – menu. ..

Hey all,

I would like to propose a new QGIS menu item that in the menu before the
Project item. This menu item will contain all the stuff in the Settings Menu,
Exit QGIS, and some of the stuff from the Help menu like About

Motivation: A lot of application have a "Application" menu with
application-wide settings, etc . I think this would make it clear that anything
in this menu is related to the application itself and not the project. Having
a Settings menu just floating in the middle of the menu bar seems strange to me
now.

Example

Thoughts?

Hi,

One of my phd students are working with a SAGA "Channel network and drainage
basins”

He wrote this to me - and I have tried to solve the problem by re-install QGIS
- but nothing seems to work. At my computer it´s OK

Can someone try to “translate” the problem:

I cannot execute the “Channel network and drainage basins” plug in. A problem
in Saga with the DLL file “gdal_MrSID.dll” seems to be the cause. Attached is a
screendrop of the dialogue box and a script from the log. My ‘filled DEM’ seems
fine.

I am using Qgis 2.18.2, but have also tried an earlier version 2.16 something,
with the same result. I use it on a Dell Latitude E6530 with 4 GB RAM and an i5
2.60 GHz processor operated with a 64-bit Windows 7 Enterprise system.

When saving a raster (Save As) in origin resolution eg. 0.4*0.4 - it gives a

I don´t have any possibilities to set the extent to make an exact match with

Actually, truth is a lot of developers are not happy with the osgeo auth
integration. Eg me.

I was recently in a discussion about qgis with a co-worker who had a small
suggestion about how we could improve the software. I thought this was the
perfect time to show him how to file a feature request in the hope that doing
so would help him understand better about how open source works and how he can
get involved.

So I show him hub, then watch in total embarrassment as he struggles to find
out how to register for the site. And then when he finds out how to get to the
registration page, he's asked for a "mantra".
Obviously, he has no idea what this is, and turns to ask me about it.
And I have no clue what the actual mantra is. And I know that trying to explain
to him something like "ok, now you go to irc and find someone on this channel
who knows that magic phrase..." is totally pointless and he'll never do that.

End result - no report filed, I can't remember what his suggestion was, he's
left thinking open-source is complex and not beginner friendly, and I'm left
embarrassed because I can't even help him file a ticket (let alone get it
fixed!).

I realise that the current setup was done by hard working volunteers, and I
applaud their efforts, but the sad truth is that it's just not working anymore
and we need a better solution. :(

[Qgis-developer] Reporting an issue at http://hub.qgis.org/

2016-11-27 Thread Lene Fischer
Hi,
I want to report issues at http://hub.qgis.org/ - but I have forgot my
username/password.

So now I´m in a catch22 – There is no way to get a new password – I can´t find
a way to create a new login –

Do we want users to report issues – yes/no ?

If yes – it must be much easier to access a platform. Right now it is only for
hardcore users who are really good at remembering passwords….

Unfortunately a fairly nasty regression has slipped in to 2.16 and is still
present on master. This results in shapefile corruption in certain
circumstances.

While I've hit this issue maybe 3 or 4 times in the last 2 months, I haven't
been able to track down exactly what causes this. It seems related to using the
split or reshape tool on a shapefile, then saving the changes and getting the
errors "Cannot reopen datasource

open xxx.shx or xxx.SHX.Try --config SHAPE_RESTORE_SHX true to restore or
create it)" in the log.

A full report is at http://hub.qgis.org/issues/15570

Hopefully we can resolve this before the next round of releases. In the
meantime, there's a workaround for recovering data:

In the same folder as the shapefile there'll be additional files
"xxx_packed.shp" and "xxx_packed.shx". Renaming the "xxx_packed.shx"
file to "xxx.shx" allows the original shapefile to be reopened.

Hi,
I start a new class this week, and we have a lot of Mac users.
Have tried to find the 2.16 for Mac – but can ‘only’ find the 2.14.

Is it correct 2.16 for Mac is not in out yet ?

[Qgis-developer] Dissolve/merge features and Validate geometries GEOS

2016-08-09 Thread Lene Fischer
Hi,

Having a problem dissolving two large multi polygons – one of my students asked
why I suggest ‘dissolve’ – when ‘merge selected features’ was so much faster.
Dissolve takes ages.

After consulting a master on this issue (Nyall ☺) he suggested that I change
the settings -> Options -> Digitizing -> and change "Validate geometries" from
QGIS to "GEOS".

Now the dissolve runs smooth and fast

I don´t have a clue about this topic – But my question is: Why is this not
standard ?

Hi,

Compared to the Singleband gray GUI, the Singleband pseudocolor GUI for raster
styling is twice as wide. This makes it difficult to use in the styling panel.

Is anyone working on this? Should I open a ticket?

Best wishes,

Hi Lene,

While I acknowledge that this is a bug and should be fixed - why do you have to
use the projective method and not any of the other ones? In fact I never used
the projective one, but either linear or helmert for raster content that is not
distorted within the image or thin plate spline for raster content that needs a
lot of control points and needs a lot of local adjusting.

What is the specific reason to use "projective" as opposed to the other methods?

Why the target was moved to 2.16 I don't know. 2.14 is a LT release and I
think/hope that there will be several updates to 2.14 in the future. Or maybe
it was meant that it will be fixed in 2.16 and then backported ...

Greetings,
Andreas

The dependencies of the latest automatic nightly are probably more up-to-date
than the list from the latest manual INSTALL update run.

Re: [Qgis-developer] Zonal Statistics does not produce any figures

2016-05-06 Thread Lene Fischer
Hi David,
This kind of question is for the User list.
Secondly you have to write more:
What have you tried with the function (ex. Created a shape polygon, Drawing
polygons, Saved polygons, Run Zonal Stat…)
Version of program (ex. 2.14.1),
Platform (ex. Windows 7)

If we don´t get that kind of informations – it´s impossible to help.

Dear Friends,

As I understand, Zonal Statistics works like a vector layer overlaying a raster
layer and produces statistics.

I tried. However, it does not produce any statistics.

Can any one help?

[Qgis-developer] Save AS -Geometry - Include Z-dimmension

2016-05-03 Thread Lene Fischer
Hi,

I have lately had trouble with Processing>Clip and the plugin Clip Multiple
Layer
It give an error “Input layer has unsupported geometry type -2147483645” –
which refer to a z-value. My data doesn´t initially have any z-value.

But after a long research on the process, I have realized that I have savede my
dataset using “Save As” to a SHP file there is Geometry>Geometry Type
‘Automatic’ and then (greyed out) ‘Include z-dimension’
I has never been aware of this function – which apparently gives problems using
the above functions.

Why is the Include z-dimmension On as default ?

IMHO we should publish an update ASAP (either of Processing or of QGIS), the

Yes - this is a known issue.

Claus Sørensen wrote about this last month. I have had the same problems and

Hi everyone

On a QGIS workshop march 9. in Silkeborg, Denmark with 30+ enthusiastic
newcomers to QGIS, we encountered 3 pc’s with extremely slow – tending to
non-functional – search box in “Processing -> Toolbox”.

OS’es ranging from Win7, Win8.1 and Win10. Win7 and Win10 unknown version but
with 2.14.0 also unknown bit flavour.

My Win8.1 Pro in 64-bit with QGIS version 2.14.0 in 64 bit and no
administrative rights.

By elevating security on the installation folder – in my case c:\Program
Files\QGIS Essen\ - to allow users “change” rights, the search box became
functional again – on every pc.

Hi,

Sorry about my provocative e-mail subject ;-)

In the current master master version, with the OSGeo4W installer, the installer
complains about:

Package Unknown package

python-httplib2.bat exit code 1

python-mock.bat exit code 1

When I start QGIS master, I get:

ImportError: No module named future

After that - everything based on Python is disabled ...

So - is the installer looking for a package called python-future and can't find
it?

Any hint would be welcome.

Re: [Qgis-developer] FOSS4G Bonn QGIS presentations

2016-03-21 Thread Lene Fischer
Hi,
I did just hand in a workshop proposal with a case:

Workshop QGIS from vector to raster and back again
The Scenario is autumn, storm and high tide. The area is a small village near
the costline. The houses in the village are in risk of getting flooded. With
Free and Open Data from The Danish Geodata Agency, we will find the buildings
in the risk zone for 2 different sea levels.
How can we do this?
At first we create an elevation model from the Pointcloud. For better
visualizing we create a Hillshade and Colorize the Elevation modelmap. Viewing
in web with QGIS2ThreeJS. With the webmap we can see the sealevel increase a
view the buildings. But it is only a view.
To find the exact buildings we have to make calculations for a scenario with 2
different sea levels. To find the buildings within the flooded area, we Convert
the calculated Raster into Vector and perform a spatial query.
The buildings are then categorized and colorized. The flooded area calculated.
Finally the map are presented in an Atlas and uploaded to the web.

Emne: [Qgis-developer] Announcing the release of QGIS 2.14 'Essen'

QGIS is a user friendly Open Source Geographic Information System that runs on
Linux, Unix, Mac OSX, and Windows.

We are very pleased to announce the release of QGIS 2.14 'Essen'. Essen was
the host city to our developer meet ups in October 2012 and 2014.

Long Term Release

This is a special release since it is designated an 'LTR' (Long Term Release).

LTR releases will be supported with backported bug fixes for one year, and will
be in permanent feature freeze (i.e. no new features will be added, only bug
fixes and trivial updates). Note that we are in discussion to extend the term
of our LTR releases to two years, but for technical reasons we will not do this
until QGIS 3.2.

The purpose of LTR releases is to provide a stable and less frequently changing
platform for enterprises and organizations that do not want to deal with
updating user skills, training materials etc. more than once per year. The
success of the LTR is very much down to you, our beloved users - we need your
support to help funding bug fixes and making sure in your support contracts
with support providers specify that any bug fixes done on your behalf are
applied to the LTR branch as well as our normal development branch.

If an LTR is important to you, please consider also directly supporting the
QGIS project, or encourage your commercial provider to use LTR as a basis for
your enterprise solution so that everyone may benefit from a stable platform
that is being continuously improved and refined. Note that for users and
organizations that like to live on the frontier, our regular four monthly
releases will continue unabated.

New Features in QGIS 2.14 'Essen'

If you are upgrading from QGIS 2.8 (our previous LTR version) you will find a
great many new features in this release.

We encourage you to peruse the changelogs for the intermediate non LTR 2.10 and

2.12 releases as this QGIS 2.14 includes all features published in those
releases too.

Note that 2.14 first enters the regular package repositories and will not
immediately replace 2.8 in the LTR package repositories. That will happen when

2.16 is released.

Whenever new features are added to software they introduce the possibility of
new bugs - if you encounter any problems with this release, please file a
ticket on the QGIS Bug Tracker.

The source code and binaries for Windows, Debian and Ubuntu are already
available via the large download link on our home page: http://qgis.org. More
packages will follow as soon as the package maintainers finish their work.

Please revisit the page if your platform is not available yet.

Thanks

We would like to thank the developers, documenters, testers and all the many
folks out there who volunteer their time and effort (or fund people to do so).

The idea of the simplified interface was to have an interface that was more
understandable for users with less experience, so you do not have to know if
the algorithm comes from GRASS, SAGA or whatever. That might be useful for
advanced users, but it is confusing for the rest of them.

Also, if an algorithm is repeated in several backends, only one of them is
added to the simplified interface, eliminating the need to select one of them
(also confusing for users)

GRASS algorithms are not featured in the simplified interface since, although
they are wrapped as Processing algorithms and simplified as much as possible,
you still have to know something about GRASS and its data structures to use
them correctly and not get strange behaviour.
If you want to use a GRASS, algorithm, I am assuming you are an advanced user,
so you can go to the advanced interface.

These were my initial ideas, but if the simplified interface is causing more
confusion than goodI will be happy to take it away (it will save us devs
quite a bit of work...). However, IMHO, it is a much better UI for most of
user, but I would like to hear what people think.

Thanks for your comments!

Hi,

Is there a particular reason why the simplified interface does not list GRASS
algorithms?

Users again-and-again get confused by the different interfaces [1] and cannot
find the tools they are looking for.

Maybe more on-topic for the UX list:
What was the main intent of the simplified interface?
Does it actually achieve its goals?

Currently, I tend to think that the two interfaces cause more confusion than
they are worth.

Best wishes,
Anita

Emne: Question on user conference

Hi Lene,

I have a question on the upcoming QGIS user conf and developer meeting in
Denmark
(http://ign.ku.dk/english/outreach-publications/conferences-seminars/international-qgis-user-and-developer-conference/
 and
https://hub.qgis.org/wiki/quantum-gis/13_QGIS_Developer_Meeting_in_Copenhagen_2015).
Are both events at the same location ( Nødebo) or is the user conference prior
to the dev meeting at a different location? The conference web page is not very
clear about the location (at least I can't find it).

Thanks,
Andreas

[Qgis-developer] Recache qgis.org and subpages

2015-03-13 Thread Lene Fischer
Hi
I just got a mail from a GIS administrator. She is a bit confused when I talk
about 2.8 Wien. When she looks at QGIS.org and the download page – it shows 2.6.
Can we change the Recache, so when a new version is launched the users get the
new page too?

2015-03-13 Thread Lene Fischer
Hi Richard and Alexandre,
Thanks –
The scratch layer is wonderful – but deleted when I close the project (that’s
–OK) so I can´t save drawings in the printcomposer.
And Save as Image – forgot that – I like the Clipping tool from windows – and
woul prefer a ‘Copy to Clipboard’

Use my favourite plugin from Boris:

http://plugins.qgis.org/plugins/NewMemoryLayer/

activating this one, gives you a 'create new memory layer' in your Layer
menu, where you can then choose point/line/polygon and it will appear as
a layer into your map, and edit with the normal tools.
You can style it as every other layer.

(Also one of my favorite plugins)

Just to remind that that since 2.8, this feature is now core and was called
add new scratch layer, and it's available in the Create Shapefile/Spatialite
Button.

There is another plugin to save the memory layer into the project file.

This one is not a core feature, but works fine with scratch Layers

2015-03-08 Thread Lene Fischer
Hi Yves,
All the roads leads to Nødebo :-)
First we started to use the HUB, (you have registered at HUB) - old
developers know that page - but for newcomers we have made a second entry at
https://qgis2015.wordpress.com/87-2/

But, you can also register at the official page
https://www.etouches.com/ereg/index.php?eventid=117583; and at that page it is
possible to donate a small amount to the accommodation/food.

Please update your arrival and departure information. There are still
accommodation at the Forestry College.

Hey Jurgen,

That sounds really good to me. The auto release based on silence in the branch
sounds like a good idea. Given that this is the first time we have done this I
think we will just need to iron out any issues as we find them, hard to get
things right on the first run.

Hi,

I started to including the LTR release in the packaging/nightly builds. I'm
going to change the plan/procedure a bit. Both regular release and ltr will
be branched of master and continue to be called release-$major_$minor. The LTR
additionally gets a ltr-$major_$minor tag. release.plhttp://release.pl is
already changed that
way any release-2_8 has such a tag.

A cronjob will monitor release branches for changes and intiate a new point
release whenever there are two week silence after a new commit (or manually
when there was a very important fix).

The nightly builds will monitor master, latest release and ltr branch and
create nightly packages if there are changes (1+2+4), unless there was a
version change (ie. a point release) in which case regular packages will be
made (3+5).

For Windows there will be five different packages (1-5: qgis-dev, qgis-rel-dev,
qgis, qgis-ltr-dev, qgis-ltr) in OSGeo4W, for debian/ubuntu there will be five
different repositories (1-5: debian-nightly, debian-nightly-release, debian,
debian-lts-nightly, debian-lts).

4+5 are only made if the latest release and ltr branch are different. Until
then latest release and ltr are identical anyway. That also means ltr packages
only start four months after a ltr release happened and we maintain the ltr
branch four months as our regular and nine specifically as separate ltr
release. That also implies that installing ltr packages means that you install
something that already has seen four months of maintainance.

An open question is what to do in the four month a new ltr is out. While there
is no new regular release only regular packages are created and there are no
new ltr packages. This might be negligible as the ltr branch will have been
maintained for a year as promised, but if you only install ltr packages there
will be a gap of four months without updates. But I guess that can be left
open until we get there.

Thoughts?

Jürgen

2014-12-21 Thread Lene Fischer
Hi,

I have just found the same error.

Starting to show my students the difference between calculating an area with
planimetric /ellipsoide difference.

We use EPSG 25832 (UTM32 N EUREF 89)

In the Project properties the Measure tool are set to CRS ON and Ellipsoide
None /Planimetric ??? Strange when I have choosen a CRS with an Ellipsoide

Then I change the Ellipsoide to WGS84 - Click on CRS - and sometimes it is set
back to None or Clark 1866.

When I try to calculate an area - without any changes in the None /Planimetric
- and secondly change the ellipsoide to WGS84 and recalculate - the area gets
smaller!!!

There is a Bug report #11713 on the same issue from November - still open set
to normalThis must be a blocker

 * reprojecting a metric projection to 4326, choosing an ellipsoid and

a measurement unit in Project properties is not permanent (reopening

the dialog displays none/planimetric and degrees even if wg84 and

 meters were selected beforehand)

it is messy as already said by Alexander, and that ticket should be reopened.

sometimes seems to follow a pattern like:

If you open the project properties from the menus the ellipsoid changes, but
not the canvas units.

If you open the project properties from the bottom right icon/shortcut the
ellipsoid does not change, but units do.

other times it seems it just messes up everything regardless of what you have
choosen and how you open the project properties.

This to me is a major issue because the user never knows how reliable are the
measurements being done (with the field calculator) and if numbers can be
compared with the ones computed previously.

 * with the same reprojection, Decoration Scalebar shows 1 meter

 instead of 1 degree

cannot confirm here, it shows degrees

 * when using curved labels with a background, a separate background

(e.g. a rectangle) is drawn for each character, with rather ugly

 results

for better results

the size type of the background must be set to fixed (and then give it the
proper size).

The idea was indeed to reduce the height - and in many cases it helps a lot.
Maybe we can just slightly change the way how the editing pencil is shown - for

would that work for you?

I agree to Nyall -

We need sponsors. And sponsors don´t want to be in footnotes fontsize 6.5

Right now I´ve started to get sponsors to the next developer/usermeeting in

I think these small textnotes in the mail are harmless

 to every commit.

Is this really an issue? It seems rather trivial. I personally am strongly in
favour of these attributions in the commit log. Reasons

are:

- It gives credit to sponsors. That's important! Look at how many cool features
were added in 2.6 thanks to sponsorship...

- It gives credit to developers who donate their free/company time.

That's also important. QGIS wouldn't exist if it wasn't for these developers
donating their time

- The commit log is basically for developers or power users/contributors only.
It's a fairly harmless place to advertise these sponsorship messages. For a
while there was a few sponsored by

messages in code comments - that's a much worse/more intrusive place for these
messages.

- It lets us blow off steam when release pressures ramp up :P see 68c49fe09,
34f00d106 and 2427546d8

So, +1 for allowing these messages.

Re: [Qgis-developer] [Qgis-user] Stress about release plans

2014-07-23 Thread Lene Fischer
I´ve now been using-, bug reporting- and making tutorials for QGIS since 1.7
and I still find it difficult to make stable contributions in several ways: In
this tread everyone write ‘more money’ or ‘Work together’

I want to donate time – but find it difficult to find a limited project. As
everyone else I have a time consuming job, but find it both exiting and needed
to be a part of this ‘movement’
What if we under Support on the front page make it easy to support in several
ways:

-We make a matrix for testing for users. Having a set of standard data. A
platform (windows/linux/MAC) and then a list of functions to test. I´m sure we
are several users who would gladly take a job like this if it is limited and
organized – because we can see the job being done and developers taking over.
In one of my courses I introduced this to my students – they also found it
brilliant to be able to participate.

- We make an addition to tutorials: Case based tutorials, where we can write a
small summary/intro – incl. platform and version. Upload data and tutorial in
our own form.( I don´t have time to re-write into a standard format)

- We make more exposure about the donation page. It is set on the front page –
Good – but also mention it for our students, users of all kind - to donate.
Micro donations in the students beer-hut will be my next battle ☺

I love being a part of QGIS!!!

Those sponsoring a feature may feel that a year of wait until they find it in a

·A developer version for 4 months with new features and bugfixes =

Stable version with short bugfix-period = New developer

Most of the users of this dev version will be common users, before the release
of 2.0 I often saw 1.9 versions installed and people on support forums
suggesting the use of qgis-dev

I do know it will give the developers more work - I do know it will

cost more money - But I´m sure a lot of administrators will recommend,

use and support if we get a more stable environment.

How many administrator are currently pushing to sponsor msi packages for their

We are very pleased to announce the release of QGIS 2.4 'Chugiak'.

The new release contains a lot of new features, tweaks and enhancements. The
most noticible improvement is probably the long awaited multithreaded
rendering, that lets QGIS leave a much more responsive impression.

This is second release following our new four month release schedule that is
meant to make new features and bugfixes available quicker and the development
and new releases more predictable. This time the testing phase was especially
fruitful and was therefore extended by a week. Thanks to all the tester for
their time and good reports.

Thanks Jürgen for this reminder
We should provide a HTML page with some help how to download and test the
master version. Otherwise Windows, Linux and Mac users who are not developpers
(and compilers) would not be able to help us testing the master version.
I remember there is one download page with a new Master Windows build every
week. Having the same for other distributions would help. Do you think builders
could provide some help to build a single wiki page Try the last Master for
Windows, Linux and mac distros ? Or this page already exists ?
Having a single link could help us in this list to call for testers among the
end users (via twitter and other channels)

Hi,

I'd like to remind everyone that the 2.3 development cycle ended at 12:00 UTC.
We are now in feature freeze on the road to the 2.4 release on
2014-06-20http://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/generic?p0=1440iso=20140620T12year=2014month=6day=20hour=12min=0sec=0msg=2.4%20Release
(almost 28 days away; see also
roadmaphttp://qgis.org/en/site/getinvolved/development/index#road-map.html).

Now we, the community, need to prepare QGIS for release. No new features will
be added anymore. Users, if not already begun, should now start extensive
testing of master and report bugs on the hubhttp://hub.qgis.org. Developers
should move their focus from creating new features to fixing bugs.
Translators can can continue their work (Werner updated the translations in
master. Thanks! Note that this might be an incremental process as - although
there is feature freeze - bug fixes could still change or add translation
strings).

The nightly builds of QGIS testing available for
Windowshttp://www.qgis.org/en/site/forusers/alldownloads.html#windows, Linux
(Debianhttp://www.qgis.org/en/site/forusers/alldownloads.html#id3 and
Ubuntuhttp://www.qgis.org/en/site/forusers/alldownloads.html#qgis-testing)
and Mac OShttp://www.qgis.org/en/site/forusers/alldownloads.html#id13 are now
effectively snapshots of what's going to be released. Except of course for the
bugs that are going to be fixed until release day. For Windows there will also
continue to be weekly snapshots of the standalone installer that can serve as
Release Candidatehttp://www.qgis.org/downloads/weekly/.

Lets keep up working together to make 2.4 another great release.

[Qgis-developer] QGIS Developer Meeting / Hackfest Spring 2015

2014-05-20 Thread Lene Fischer
Hello List,

University of Copenhagen would like to apply for hosting Developer-meeting /
Hackfest in spring 2015.

We have a Forestry College 45 km north of Copenhagen, where we have the
organization and facilities for accommodation, canteen, rooms for work and
place for 'time off'.

We don´t know the procedures for such an application, so if anyone on the list
could help, it would be appreciated.

Regards
