Ok lets discuss it at the hackfest, but it is a possibility since we
did not yet break api.
Just bear in mind that there is a large, often silent, group of people
who would prefer bug fix releases over feature releases. I'm going to

I'm also in favor of a 1.8 release. I've been asked several times by users
when the new features will be available in a release.
before or after the HF?
Before seems a bit short-termed. Don't know if this is possible?

Hi!
I'd vote for a 1.8 release meeting at the hackfest - clean out the

Hi all
A strong +1 for 1.8 from me, as it would make things much easier for the folks
who let develop features but couldn't wait for qgis v.2.
Depending on the infrastructre (the number of users and their projects and even
the special plugins they have) it may take some extra months for an
Hi devs
looking at the amount of time (~6 months) and commits (~900) since the
1.7 release I am wondering whether it would not be reasonable to make
also 1.8 release. Originally we wanted 1.7 to be the last 1.x feature
release, however the master branch is in a good shape and no API

I agree Martin,
but I would hope that (at least) some of the major bugs reported for
1.7/1.7.1 will be solved before a new release.
The risk is to provide new features, but loosing stability for the ones
users are used to.
