Can you try with 2.18/2.14.8. This issue was fixed recently, but since 2.16
is end of lifed it didnt receive the fix.

There is another SVG symbols issue in addition to Path, present in
QGIS 2.16 also, and that is the home directory path is incorrect and has 
two // rather than one /,


eg.

/usr/share/qgis/svg/
/home/gordon/.qgis2//svg/
/usr/share/qgis/svg/
/home/gordon/.qgis2//svg/

As far as I can see on recent releases this is fixed. I remember it
clearly and now on clean installations seems ok.

I detected that and found out that the grass icon, being a SVG, was
causing that delay, since it was loaded hundreds of times. Replacing
how it got loaded seemed to fix the issue, but apparently not in all
machines, so there might be more than that

when changing one of the options, Processing takes about a minute to
close the popup. I sort of remember one similar bug being closed. Are
there news on that?
