Hi, drawing features in QGIS is quite similar with other GIS softwares.
This tutorials should help you

I'm pleased to confirm that you can indeed draw polygons in QGIS --
millions(?) of users have been doing this for decades. Wouldn't be
much of a GIS if you couldn't!

Maybe you could give some more detail so that we can actually help?

Re: [Qgis-user] [QGIS-Developer] HDF Bug [Was: Raster formats in Qgis 3.4]

2018-11-28 Per discussione Alex M
Workaround, assuming you know which subdataset you want to load (by
using gdalinfo on the commandline). Put the full path in to the dataset.

In a terminal or osgeo4w shell
$ gdalinfo MOD09A1.A2016313.h21v09.006.2016322094441.hdf | grep SUBDATA

copy the line for the layer you want to load
SUBDATASET_1_NAME=HDF4_EOS:EOS_GRID:"MOD09A1.A2016313.h21v09.006.2016322094441.hdf":MOD_Grid_500m_Surface_Reflectance:sur_refl_b01

Append the full path to the file, example here is /home/user/, like
C:/user/username on Windows.

HDF4_EOS:EOS_GRID:"/home/user/MOD09A1.A2016313.h21v09.006.2016322094441.hdf":MOD_Grid_500m_Surface_Reflectance:sur_refl_b01

Paste this into the load Raster dialog in QGIS 3.4.1

Not ideal but highlights that the driver is fine, it's just the
detection and selection of subdata layers that's not working.

Thanks,
Alex

 Anabel,

 QGIS 3 supports all the same formats, however the loading dialog did
 change.
 https://www.gdal.org/formats_list.html

 Sometimes there can also be a slight variation in which drivers are
 included in the gdal install, though that usually only applies to
 proprietary formats like MrSID and ECW.

 What operating system are you using, which version of QGIS 3.4.?, and
 can you send a link with an example file others can test with?

 Do you get an error message? Please explain more about how it's not
 working.

 Thanks,
 Alex

Re: [Qgis-user] HDF Bug [Was: Raster formats in Qgis 3.4]

2018-11-28 Per discussione Alex M
On Qgis-user an issue was reported with loading HDF5 files in QGIS 3.4
no Windows 10.

I was able to confirm that HDF5 files fail in QGIS 3.4.1, on Linux also.
Not just the user's file but file I also have. In both cases the files
work fine in QGIS 2.18.

This appears to be a regression related to subdatasets (sublayers). No
dialog comes up asking the user which subdataset to load, and hence the
load fails with a Provider is not Valid message.

Only bug info I can find was an old patch that solved this 7 years ago:
https://issues.qgis.org/issues/5041

Here's a MODIS image in HDF5 for people to test with.
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1hQEi3cRdVRlxih06nbo0gygAvJE08ft7

A secondary, minor issue, the Browser doesn't see the file if it has an
extension beyond .hdf, in this the case .h5 was what the user supplied.

Thanks,
Alex

[Qgis-user] Atlas features in a single page

2018-11-28 Per discussione Francesco Pelullo
Hi all,

I'm trying to generate a single layout with multiple maps, everyone of
these maps need to be controlled by atlas as usual.
In other words, I would like atlas generate map objects, not pages.

At the present, I can do it manually as follow:
- create a layout, let's say an A0 paper page with no objects;
- create a smaller map layout (let's say, "Map1"), this will be 120x120mm
so it will not cover entirely the layout;
- generate Atlas as usual;
- change properties of Map1 to "controlled by atlas";
- change page in the atlas, until "page 1" will appears;
- at this point, "Map1" has been generated by atlas;
- change properties of Map1 again, now disable "controlled by atlas";
- copy/paste Map1 on the A0 layout, adiacent to Map1, it will became "Map2";
- setup properties of Map2 to "controlled by atlas";
- change page in the atlas, now Map1 will stay as generated by "page 1" and
Map2 will update to "page2";
- edit properties of Map2, disable "controlled by atlas";
- and so on

I want to generate a single map layout wich contain dozen of map objects,
is there any solution more simple or efficient?
Thank you

Re: [Qgis-user] Node Tool - proposing improvements

2018-11-28 Per discussione Régis Haubourg
Hi, it's time for me to join the discussion. Sorry for being late.

I have been involved in the new node tool stages along with others.

First, I agree there are issues with the new node tool, and I think we can
improve this a lot. I myself was not convinced at start it was a good
change. I had to practice a lot, forget my old habits, to finally recognize
this change opens a lot of new possibilities. I also asked at start if we
coudn't keep the old edit mode, and add an optional 'CAD-like' one. ( Under
the hood, the snapping engine does not allow that simply, and this would be
really a UX nightmare, so I didn't fought)

On the rationale and the process of changing the node tool, here is what I
am aware of:

- the old node tool did not allow the use of advanced digitizing
constraints.
- the old node tool did not allow multi layer editing
- Users and contributors worked (an funded) a lot to propose enhancement to
the node tool. A QGEP was opened
https://github.com/qgis/QGIS-Enhancement-Proposals/issues/69.
- A proof of concept plugin was even made.
https://github.com/wonder-sk/CadNodeTool
- In the project I was involved in, which mainly concern editing of
networks (maybe the issue is here), we tested intensively the plugin, and
asked for changes until it can be ported to C++
- We asked quite few times to many users to test the tool during the 3.0
pre release and "early adopters" stages. *We received almost no feedback
then. *

To sum-up things, I think that quite a lot of people have been involved
here, the process has been transparent as much as possible.* Still the use
cases that pushed this changes did not cover enough intensive digitizing of
massive polygons enough*. Moreover users /contributors involved in this
kind of use* did not raise their hand during 2.99, 3.0, 3.2 releases and
feature freeze period.   *

So I think we just need to just recognize that *we miss some early testers*
and
*I would like that every company using QGIS just tries to identify some
"early adopters" among their staff and dedicate some time to anticipate
what in coming by letting them test, read the QEPS, and so on. *

*And now, we just need to polish the vertex tool. *

As far as my company is concerned, we were not satisfied by two points:

- There was no way to select one particular polygon. Martin Dobias added
just some minutes before the 3.0 release a "selected feature priority" as a
workaround. *Many thanks Martin. *
- Multi layer editing was the default behavior. This didn't play well with
transaction group and triggers in database. My company funded and
developped directly the "single layer vertex editor tool" to avoid that.

We would be glad to help in polishing the tool, but someone needs to
support this now I think. QGIS is user and developper driven. Release
early, release fast process is just made for that.

Best regards
Régis

Re: [QGIS-it-user] Raster esagonale
