sorry if I wasn´t clear enough. The problem occurred already with QGIS 3.34.6. But now I am completely puzzled, because without any action by me it seems to have disappeared, and all the QGIS files, no matter if on local or network drive, open from windows explorer as well as from within QGIS...

Hi Andrea, I updated QGIS in the meantime from 3.34.6 to 3.34.7-2, the problem occurred in both versions. And yes, there was at least one, probably two, Windows updates during the time I had this problem. I used the Windows standalone .msi installer, and after the installation was complete I
