I am using QGis 2.8.1 on Ubuntu 14.04. Whenever I try to create a new
mapset with the GRASS plug I get the error message: Cannot activate
grass. This issue has been reported by a Windows user at SE:

GRASS directly, then close GRASS and open this mapset in QGIS and refine
