[Qgis-user] QGIS Form Annotations with QT Designer

2019-01-24 Thread Lach McC
Hi all,

Having an issue with form annotations made with QT Designer showing up in
QGIS Print Composer. Frame and content data show fine on main QGIS screen,
but not in Print Composer; content is blank..

Tried many sources for a fix but nothing yet. I posted my issue at this
link for a full description.

https://gis.stackexchange.com/questions/309260/making-qt-designer-form-annotations-show-up-in-print-composer

Appreciate your help on this; or an alternative?

[Qgis-user] River Flood modelling

2019-01-24 Thread Nicolas Cadieux

Hi,

I know it can't be that simple but I would like to model a river flood
in a mountainous area.  I am looking for something like the Saga Lake
flood module with a LiDAR derived DEM, a seed but with the possibility
to add X amount of water.  It's basically a lake and dam scenario and
you just add water and figure out where the water goes down the valley
when it goes over the dam.  Of course I can't use the normal lake flood
modules because rivers are not flat therefore I need something that
takes the downhill valley shape into consideration.  Also, I am not
looking for a simple channel network map with lines and points.  I would
like the actual polygon or raster representation of the 2D shape of the
river channel.  Can you please point me in the right direction.

I suppose that you have installed the Plugin GeODinQGIS, which will
search for a GeoDin database when you start QGIS 2.x. Uninstall the

I think that, up to now, most of the people that reply are the same that
often discuss in the dev list, that contribute to the software development.
Not really the opinion of the "user base" and I think that it's still good
to hear their voices: As a lambda user, what are the plugins you would
recommend to others if they want to do things that QGIS does not natively
do? This is how I'd define "featured plugins". So for me, yes, asking more
feedbacks for the base is still of interest.

About the noise of mispelled names, I don't know how (no further discussion
has been held yet) but maybe we can provide a drop-down list based on
plugin names in our database?

Re: [Qgis-user] Featured plugins: nominations

2019-01-24 Thread DelazJ
Hi,

Given that tags are, if i'm not wrong, declared by authors, the number of
tags to filter the plugins may be enormous (though it's already possible to
filter by tag clicking one in the cloud).

Having main groups to categorize plugins sounds a good idea. I think the
"easiest" would be to:
- set some "authoritative" categories
- have a new entry in metadata and each plugin author will set the
appropriate class(es) in his plugin

All that said, the plugin website infrastructure relies mainly on the
effort of two persons so if improvements are to be done, I'm pretty sure
that they will happily welcome anyone willing to help to structure and
implement them.

Harrissou

Subject: [Qgis-user] Project files with local and remote
connections to postgreSQL databases

Hi,

I am having a basic problem with my project files. I usually run qgis
locally, where the PostgreSQL database is. However, sometimes I
need to
have these same projects run on a remote computer (where a version a
qGIS is locally installed, but the connection to the database is
remote). And then the project file 'doesn't work' because the expected
connection to the database is locally not remotely, and I have not
figured out how to modify this parameter when the project is loaded in
qGIS. My current work around is to create a specific project for the
remote computer.

However this solution is annoying when you have plenty of
composers that
you lose in the process ... and playing directly in the xml
project file
is a bit scary ...
Anybody would have an idea how to fix the problem?

Because locator filters are supposed to be separate blocks, and because
I'm not interested in Google or Swiss geocoders, and all have a special
way to handle stuff.
I created a Locator (please try it out) for Nominatim and for our
National Geocoder service. As that is where my knowledge and interests
are. Denis did one for the Swiss Geocoder and others probably for their
ones.
I think in case of Locators it is better to not pile all on one heap :-)

this opens up a question: in case of similar plugins, how to decide
which one is featured?
And, out of my curiosity, why there are several geocoding plugins,
instead of merging your efforts?
Cheers.

unsure about this - the discussion has been interesting, and led to
improvements. A wider base could reveal other gems, but could also add
considerable noise (especially if we allow free entries, as many plugins
have similar names, and it may become difficult to tell which is which.
Opinions?
