I'll add my +1 to that; "Service area (from point)" and/or "Service area
(from layer)" are the tools you're looking for.
There is a pretty good step-by-step example available in the qgis
documentation at:

Chris,
Thanks for the reply. This does not work. This is only creating a shortest
path connecting all the 5 points. But,I am looking for a path of 1000ft
from each of these points.
Regards.

I recently released the Density Analysis plugin and today I had a new
update that provides a polygon raster density analysis algorithm along with
a processing algorithm to style the raster with a heatmap.

I have a very narrow window in which I
Hello,
I have a roads shapefile. I also have a points shape file with 5 points
which are on top of these roads. I wish to extract the roads that are
1000ft along the path from each of these points. I am not looking for roads
within 1000ft buffer. I am looking for roads along the path. Can anyone
Note that there is also "v.generalize" (if you have the GRASS provider
activated in Processing). It implements many additional algorithms and
provides a comprehensive Help page.
It would be interesting to know which algorithm (and parameters) gave
you the best results!
Best,

Hey Michael,
the algorithms involved are Douglas-Peucker and Visvalingam. With those
terms you might find some nice explanations and guidance online. Some

I know there are various simplify tools in qgis but perhaps I don’t understand
how to use them best. I want to simplify i.e. reduce the number of nodes in a
polygon without changing the overall shape too much for country or similar
outlines. When I have tried this the simplify tends to chop
