Hey Chris - So I've done two things in this area (I'm currently on fedora on one machine and ubuntu on a second). Flatpak will let you edit FGDBs and has updated gdal (i believe officially sanctioned through QGIS) Currently I'm working with this:

However today I stumbled upon this: https://gdal.org/drivers/vector/openfilegdb.html which clearly states: The OpenFileGDB driver provides read, write and update access to vector layers of File Geodatabases (.gdb directories) created by ArcGIS 9 and above. That was misleading.

[Qgis-user] Cannot locate exercise_data folder but it exists
