[Qgis-user] Issue with Building Virtual Point Cloud (VPC)

2024-02-13 Thread Mike Treglia via QGIS-User
Hi all,

I have a folder with a LOT of point cloud files (1,740) - all stored as
cloud optimized point clouds (COPCs), which were converted from .las files
via QGIS. I'm trying to build a virtual point cloud via QGIS, selecting the
folder with all of the COPCs. However as its running, fairly on, it stops
running and I get a message "incorrect parameter value for layers."

I'm not finding any log files, and no .vpc file is created.

Any suggestions for troubleshooting and such? They are all from the same
source, for the same general geographic area, so while I haven't checked
all of the CRS information is the same, anticipate it should be across all
of these files.

And in case it helps, below is the "About" info for my install

Best,
Mike

Hi Hudson:

I just tried to export to golden 7 binary with QGIS version 3.20 and
3.28 running on windows 8 and it worked fine.

Couldn't get the dxf output to work, but using this from
del...@gmail.com seems to have done it, the key was
the 'output layer attribute' hiding off to the right:

Bit of pissing about to do with some layers, but all exported fine and now
fixing it in CAD, thanks to all for your help, very much appreciated

Ok, so reinstalled the Processing plugin to get my Vector tools back and did

output. Press Run and get error:

Hi Chiz,
The only thing I can think of is Split Vector Layer (Vector => Data Management)
that will allow you to split your Layer by attribute, outputting a DXF for each
layer.
The only issue is that you will have a series of separate Layers which you will
have to manually merge into a single dxf file.

One other consideration would be, splitting the single layer by attribute in
QGIS as separate Layers and then exporting the Project.
Sorry I can't be of more help, there's probably a way, using Python, to carry
out the split and write out a single DXF, but I can't help you there.
Kind Regards,

Richard

Maybe direct conversion with GDAL/OGR is easier. Please refer:
https://gis.stackexchange.com/questions/431277/how-to-create-a-3d-dxf-from-arcgen-with-gdal-ogr2ogr

ogr2ogr -dialect sqlite -sql "SELECT ID as Layer, geometry from
import_polz" ^
-f "DXF" export_lin.dxf -nlt LINESTRING -dim 3 import_polz.shp

Change the db.Attribute ID to an existing one. For example "colour".

Hi Chiz,
The only thing I can think of is Split Vector Layer (Vector => Data Management)
that will allow you to split your Layer by attribute, outputting a DXF for each

Richard

Hallo, I have a shapefile that has attributes and need to convert this to a CAD
file. I can do this by export project to dxf, but it comes through with one CAD
layer per shapefile. I need to have the shapefile come through as different CAD
layers according to one of the attribute fields.

Example: Shapefile contains many polygons, the attribute field 'colour' of each
polygon can be red, blue, green etc. I need it to get it into CAD with a layer
for the red polygons, one for the blue, one for green etc

You can always use the Shape Tools plugins to draw a circle around the
points. It uses Geodesic calculations so you don't need to convert to
another projection.

Hi Chaz,
There was a bug that hid that in the past (fixed in next release) but if you
scroll the dxf dialog to the right, you'll get an "output layer attribute"
column that helps you select whether a layer should remain a layer in the dxf
or split across one of its fields.

Dear Chiz,

you may achieve separated shapefiles with vector [menu] > Data Management Tools > Split Vector Layers [Tool].

The tool allows you to choose the attribute field as a unique ID field, the output field type (shp, dxf ...) and the output directory for the results of the tool. You may find the same tool in the Geoprocessing menu as well.

Warm regards,

Christine
