Re: [Qgis-user] ubuntugis: Broken after update to 2.18.14

2017-11-29 Thread Filipe Dias

Hi

I am on Ubuntu 16.04 and trying a fresh installtion of the latest 2.18.x
version with ubuntugis dependencies. I have both "ubuntugis unstable" and

[Qgis-user] QGIS resource sharing plugin crashes QGIS

2016-09-09 Thread Filipe Dias
Hi
I just tried to install QGIS Resource Sharing plugin but QGIS crashed. When
I tried to restart it crashed again with this error message. Is it a known
issue? Should I report it?

Manually deleting the plugin solves the issue.

Thanks

[Qgis-user] QGIS 2.12.3 not available for Ubuntu 14.04?

2016-02-01 Thread Filipe Dias
Hi

I have these two repositories active but I can't upgrade from 2.12.1 to
2.12.3. Am I doing something wrong or this version is not available in
these repositories?

http://qgis.org/ubuntugis

http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntugis/ubuntugis-unstable/ubuntu

Thanks

Best regards

Thanks André
It seems that after updating the keys all I had to do was to clean the
cache as you suggested.

Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS Master broken - again

2015-10-02 Thread Filipe Dias
Ok, thanks. I will wait for the next build.

I am not a programmer, therefore I can't figure out which commit fixes
which bug. This message doesn't mean anything to me:

debian packaging update (take II on fixing #13310)

In cases such as these I would suggest adding a note to the commit message
saying such as: Fixes QGIS Master build. That way end users who are not
programmers can check the log and be warned.

Thanks for fixing this so quickly

But today when I wanted to resume with the project: Missing dependency.

 How is that possible???

  Hi,
I'm going nuts! It took me weeks till a got a working QGIS 2.8 install
with GRASS(7) working in the toolbox on Linux Mint/Ubuntu.

Using the model builder to create some workflow, I became aware that
there is a Processing update available.
Doing this update, the model doesn't work anymore, cause GRASS stopped
 working in the toolbox.

When I do a fresh install without updating Processing, I get an error
when I try loading my model (which I unfortunately saved with the new
 Processing version).

Ok, I could create that model again with the non-updated Processing
version, so the GRASS function I need is available, but I also rely on the
new OGR Dissolve Polygons function introduced with the new Processing
version, cause I need to sum up an attribute while dissolving, and there is
 no alternative function at hand.

Anyone an idea what to do? Seems I'm caught in kind of a time/version
 hole.

 Cheers

[Qgis-user] Missing dependency error for Grass 7 - QGIS 2.8.1

2015-07-12 Thread Filipe Dias
Hi

I'm using QGIS 2.8.1 and Grass 7 on Ubuntu (ubuntu gis unstable) and just
installed the most recent version of Processing via the Plugin Manager
(version 2.10.1).

Since then I'm getting a missing dependency error when I try to run Grass 7
algorithms. If I revert to the previous Processing version Grass 7 works as
expected.

Am I missing something or this a bug?

[Qgis-user] Installing QGIS 2.10 with Ubuntugis unstable dependencies

2015-07-08 Thread Filipe Dias
Hi,

I have these repositories active and working but when I install qgis (sudo
apt-get install qgis python-qgis) I'm still getting QGIS 2.8.1:

deb http://qgis.org/ubuntugis trusty main

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntugis/ubuntugis-unstable/ubuntu trusty main

Is QGIS 2.10 not available with ubuntugis dependencies or am I missing
something? I tried to get 2.10 with this repository and it worked.

deb http://qgis.org/debian http://qgis.org/debian main trusty

Re: [Qgis-user] slow dissolve

2014-11-28 Thread Filipe Dias
Hi

The Dissolve tool is very very slow. But from the Processing toolbox you
can use the equivalent tool from SAGA GIS (Polygon dissolve) or v.dissolve
from GRASS GIS which are considerably faster (assuming you have installed
both these software packages).

A new native QGIS Dissolve tool is being prepared by one of the developers
and it should be available in a couple of weeks. But in the meantime the
two options I mentioned should do the job.

 Hi,

Since I work with QGIS the dissolve function tends to be very slow for me.
E.g., it takes ours to dissolve a layer of 15000 polygons. ArcGIS in
contrast, does the job in a couple of minutes. Usually, it doesn't take too
long in our house until one of our ArcGIS licences is freed to solve the
issue, but why it shouldn't work with QGIS?

Thus the question: Is dissolve generally a bottle neck in QGIS or does it
depend on the structure of the dataset? The polygones I deal with are never
overlapping, but have either common borders or are seperated. At least, I
could imagine this may be the reason why the algorithm is so slow?

 Appreciate your comments!

Re: [Qgis-user] Clipping tool takes a lot of time

2014-10-16 Thread Filipe Dias
Yes, convert format is based on ogr2ogr but I dont think it can be modified
to do clip. Why don't you try running ogr2ogr from the command line?

You need to navigate to the directory where both your shapefiles are stored
and run the code just like in the blog post. I tried on Linux but it should
be the same on Windows (command line on Windows is command prompt).

ogr2ogr -clipsrc clipping_polygon.shp output.shp input.shp

Hope it helps

since it seems to be much faster

Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS BROWSER uselessness!

2014-08-26 Thread Filipe Dias
The QGIS browser that's available inside QGIS is quite useful and for the
most part it works as well as ArcCatalog. The only issue I have is that
it's not possible to rename or delete layers with it (I think I submitted a
feature request a about this 2 years ago).

As for the standalone Qgis browser, I've never found any use for it. In the
past I used ArcCatalog as a file manager for deleting and renaming
shapefiles and rasters, but that was about it.

 1. I don't find it to be slow in my computer. In fact I have tested to
open the same folder full of shapefiles both in QGIS browser and Arccatalog
9.3, and I can second Paolo experience. ArcCatalog hangs a bit before
 showing the files and previewing, while QGIS Browser seems instant;
 2. You are right, it does not allow one to rename files;
 2. It DOES allow drag and drop to the QGIS Desktop (I have just tested).

I think it would be very useful if it worked as ArcCatalog!

Would the Legambiente Comitato Regionale Siciliano consider sponsoring
the needed changes? Rename files seems a nice feature to have.

Actually it was not the ever present ~/.qgis2 permissions bug.
I went to /usr/share/qgis and changed the permissions on that folder to my
user name. I have no idea how this happened but I write here solution in
case anyone else comes across this.

message shows up:

Installed version: ? (in /usr/share/qgis/python/plugins/processing)
Available version: 2.2.0-1 (in QGIS Official Plugin Repository)

However, in /usr/share/qgis/python/plugins/processing there's an

It seems you have downloaded an old version of Processing through the
plugin installer (2013-11-20) and installed it over the most recent one. If
you remove Processing from the plugin installer , QGIS should start using
the most recent version.

Try that and report back

[Qgis-user] Qgis-Processing (former Sextante) has two bug trackers

2014-03-24 Thread Filipe Dias
Hi

QGIS-Processing (former Sextante) has open tickets on two bugtrackers:

- the plugin bug tracker, built when it was a plugin, but with a lot of
active tickets - http://hub.qgis.org/projects/sextante/activity

- the main bug tracker with a few open tickets -
http://hub.qgis.org/projects/quantum-gis/issues

I understand those two can't be merged in one go, because the
plugin-bugtracker has categories (QGIS-Processing SAGA GIS, QGIS-Processing
GRASS GIS etc) that don't fit in the main bug tracker. But this should be
solved ASAP, because the current situation is quite confusing

Hi
I think Processing tickets should be in the main bug tracker, since GDAL

Also, Qgis-Processing is a really big (and great) feature, that interests a
lot of users, so it makes sense to keep its tickets in the main tracker.

I'm of the opinion that the tracker should continue to be the Plugin
tracker, not the main QGIS tracker. So I'd propse moving any
Sextante/Processing tickets from the main or linking them into the
 Plugin tracker.

To me it's still a plugin, just a core plugin but big enough that it's
really a subproject. If we wanted to move the Plugin tracker as a
sub-project of QGIS that would also make sense.

Also Processing bugs aside from Processing not loading aren't
 showstoppers for release.

 Thanks,
 Alex

[Qgis-user] R-Sextante scripts: ideas?

Hi all,

QGIS 2.0 seems to be coming along well and according to what I've read on
these lists it will be released soon.

As you know, it is possible use R tools in QGIS via Sextante. There are
some example scripts already but I think there should be more.

A few months ago I made a few very simple tools but I'm now planning to
work on some more complex stuff to include in QGIS 2.0. R itself can be
used as GIS, which means there are plenty of tools to analyze GIS data. So
I would like to ask everyone for ideas for new new algorithms. Here's an
example:

If anyone has any suggestions, please share them. If you already have some
R code prepared, all the better.

in QGIS master you can use SEXTANTE to batch process files, so you can
use the reproject layer tool, and get a copy of your shapes with a
 proper .prj

Then to merge the shapes you can use QGIS, but I agree that is very
(very) slow for large shapes or large number of shapes.

The faster tool/code I tested is

and it would be very nice to use it to replace the actual python code
of the merge shapefiles qgis tool, see

Does anyone know if there's a ppa for Linux Ubuntu 12.04 available with
SAGA GIS 2.10?

 2013/7/4 Victor Olaya vola...@gmail.com

 Hi all

SAGA 2.1.0 has just been released. The current version of SEXTANTE in
master has been now adapted to work with SAGA 2.1.0, and raster
algorithms will not work with any other version. Please, update your
SAGA executables if using the latest master version, since now 2.1.0
 is the target version.

The only algorithm adapted so far is the raster export one, which, for
SEXTANTE, was the most important one that had been modified, since it
blocks all other raster algorithms. Other algorithms might have
changed, but they are not adapted yet. If you find something that was
working before and now it doesn't, please report. Also, if there are
new algorithms, feel free to suggest them to be added to SEXTANTE as
well, describing their syntax, if possible, to help us do it.

Windows users, please notice that the Osgeo4W installer still ships
with SAGA 2.0.8, so you will need to install SAGA 2.1.0 manually and
change the SAGA path in SEXTANTE. This will be updated soon, so it's
 just a temporary issue

 Thanks for your help
 Victor

[Qgis-user] creation of .gpx is not straightforward

2013-06-12 Thread Filipe Dias
Hi
The process for creating .gpx is a bit cumbersome in my opinion. Users have
to the following:

To create waypoints:

Data source:
GPX_USE_EXTENSIONS=YES
GPX_EXTENSIONS_NS=YES

To create tracks:

Data source:
GPX_USE_EXTENSIONS=YES
GPX_EXTENSIONS_NS=YES:

and
Layer creation field
FORCE_GPX_TRACK=YES

Uploading and downloading gps waypoints and tracks is a standard procedure
(at least) for biologists and archaeologists and in IMHO it is not smooth
in QGIS because of this. Would it be hard to program these options by
default when creating a gpx? Or maybe add this functionality to GpsTools?

If more users feel the same way I'll open a feature request.

Filipe

Compiled against GDAL/OGR -

If I remember correctly, only GDAL 1.9 allows users to delete columns. If
that's the case, install the Table Manager plugin ou upgrade to QGIS 1.8.

In 1.7.4 I don't know, but in 1.8 it works like expected. In edit mode,
pressing Delete Column will give a list of all columns of the layer,
 which one can select.

It happens with that specific shapefile, or any shapefile?

I think that this features is not implemented in the 1.7 and in the 1.8
version. But you can download the table manager plugin to add/delete and
 modify columns.

Re: [Qgis-user] Defining the SEXTANTE roadmap

2012-12-01 Thread Filipe Dias
Hi,

I also think that the most important thing now is to fix existing bugs and
to test all Sextante algorithms. From what I see in the bugtracker, I
suspect there are entire areas of Sextante that haven't been tested by
anyone at all (there are almost no tickets for Orfeo for example). I've
been using Sextante for a while and each time I work with it I end up
filing quite a few bug reports.

At the moment I think that SAGA, GRASS, ftools and R integration make
Sextante the most powerful geoprocessing platform thay I know of. So I
would sugest prioritizing bug fixing and testing over integrating other
backends/new tools.

Thank you Victor once more for bringing Sextante to QGIS

Best regards

  Hi all

As you might know, the SEXTANTE project started some time ago at the
University of Extremadura (Spain), where I was working. I started
creating the QGIS version at the beginning of this year, and now I do
not work for the University, but I am still mantaining it. The
University has some money that they would like to invest on improving
SEXTANTE for QGIS, as this is the version they (and I personally share
that) consider more relevant. I am not available for that task, as I
have another job, but I would help coordinate the development in my
spare time, as I do now.

There are some priorities, which involve developing certain new
analysis algorithms that are of interest, mostly for academic
purposes, and creating good documentation about how to develop new
SEXTANTE algorithms, so as to bring more developers in and ensure that
SEXTANTE will keep on growing. But apart from that, we would like to
hear from the community, to know what is better for SEXTANTE.

 So, in short:

 - The University has some money (not much...but some) and wants to
 invest it wisely
 - It is looking for ideas to define the work to do (apart from its
particular interest), in order to turn SEXTANTE into a really powerful
 tool.
 - We are looking for someone to do this work.

Let's start with the second point How do you think we should spend
 this money on SEXTANTE?

Please, comment on this and help us push SEXTANTE forward.

 Many thanks in advance.

 Victor

 Hi Victor,

when i saw the first annoucements for SEXTANTE in QGIS, i was really
excited, and your responsiveness for this matter is really great.
So, i would give the money to YOU ;)

In a foreseeable future, the current plugin presentation in the standard
menus and toolbar-icons will not be able to hold all functions in a
 comfortable way anymore.
I personally think, the SEXTANTE approach (though i have NO idea what's
technically behind it and what it was basically intended for) should become
the core means for accessing functionalities in QGIS.
... actually like the ArcGIS-Toolbox, the only thing i really like on that
software compared to the current QGIS way...

It would be great if in the future, new (or rewritten) plugins could be
designed directly towards a sextante integration (so if not possible to
completely integrate, at least make the function findable through the
search and then fire the custom form).

Another thing i would really like to see in sextante and in qgis in
general would be to be able to drag and drop layers into the forms instead
of having to fumble through dozens of layers in a drop-down only.

 So that was my wishlist.
Lets see what Santa Claus will bring ;)

 Bernd

[Qgis-user] Table Join in QGIS Master

2012-11-23 Thread Filipe Dias
Dear all,

I tried to join a .csv and .dbf table (table1 with FieldA and FieldB) with
a shapefile with Field A and Field B. The joined fields in the resulting
shapefile were named table1FieldA and table2FieldB. In previous versions
QGIS simply added FieldA and FieldB. Is this the new and intended behaviour?

If yes, I dont think its a good idea, because if the table field''s names
are relatively long, they will be trimmed in the final shapefiles eg.
table1Fie.

QGIS Master (today's version) and Linux Ubuntu 12.04

Re: [Qgis-user] Table Join in QGIS Master

2012-11-23 Thread Filipe Dias
Hi Marco
Yes I think it is better that way. And how about adding a small suffix (eg.
_a or _j) instead of the name of the table? If the field's names are
small enough it would still be possible to distinguish between original
and joined fields.

Yes, it is intended behaviour to better distinguish fields with the same
names. Maybe it would be better to add the table name last, then it would
 get trimmed away?

Re: [Qgis-user] Where is R in QGIS Sextante

2012-11-23 Thread Filipe Dias
Hi
R Sextante imports data via readogr () and writes them with (library
rgdal). So your function has to accept an input created by readogr() and to
export it as an ouput that writeogr() can write.

After you've done that it's easy to put in Sextante. The instructions made
by Victor are quite clear but I can help if necessary.

Re: [Qgis-user] Cannot start NVIZ through SEXTANTE without vector layer

Like Anita, I also enjoyed having nviz on Sextante, but its certainly not
something that I consider very important as an end user.

 Thanks for the feedback

Let me check later if I can improve on the way it is called, so you do
not have problems with missing vector layers and similar things. I
also found that sometimes layers where not shown, so all that together
made me decide to remove it. And I thought no one was going to miss
it...but it is good to have your feedback, and you are right in that
it would be nice to be able to open and view data after an analysis.

Let me check it and I might put it back, so you can test it and
eventually help us have a working thing that we can keep in SEXTANTE.

 Thanks again!

You can also try DNRGPS, which is also open source and very works very well
with Garmin GPS machines.

 Hi!

Depending on which Operating System you are using I suggest either to use
the tool coming with you Garmin (MapSource?)
Or in the OpenSource World there is a nice program which works perfectly
with Garmin. It is called QtLandkarteGT [1].

QGIS is not a GPS-Managing Program - it is able to connect to
GPS-devices but only for the purpose of downloading data or displaying
 actual position.

If you want to upload something to your device you have to use a format
which your device is able to understand and use a program that is able to
 upload to your device.

 Hope that helps
