Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS Master broken - again
Ok, thanks. I will wait for the next build. I am not a programmer, therefore I can't figure out which commit fixes which bug. This message doesn't mean anything to me: debian packaging update (take II on fixing #13310) In cases such as these I would suggest adding a note to the commit message saying such as: Fixes QGIS Master build. That way end users who are not programmers can check the log and be warned. Thanks for fixing this so quickly Cheers On Fri, Oct 2, 2015 at 9:21 AM, Jürgen E.wrote: > Hi, > > On Fri, 02. Doing this update, the model doesn't work anymore, cause GRASS stopped working in the toolbox. When I do a fresh install without updating Processing, I get an error when I try loading my model (which I unfortunately saved with the new Processing version). Ok, I could create that model again with the non-updated Processing version, so the GRASS function I need is available, but I also rely on the new OGR Dissolve Polygons function introduced with the new Processing version, cause I need to sum up an attribute while dissolving, and there is no alternative function at hand. Re: [Qgis-user] slow dissolve
Hi The Dissolve tool is very very slow. But from the Processing toolbox you can use the equivalent tool from SAGA GIS (Polygon dissolve) or v.dissolve from GRASS GIS which are considerably faster (assuming you have installed both these software packages). A new native QGIS Dissolve tool is being prepared by one of the developers and it should be available in a couple of weeks. But in the meantime the two options I mentioned should do the job. HTH On Fri, Nov 28, 2014 at 11:09 AM, Torsten Lange torsten.la...@mail.de wrote: Hi, Since I work with QGIS the dissolve function tends to be very slow for me. E.g., it takes ours to dissolve a layer of 15000 polygons. ArcGIS in contrast, does the job in a couple of minutes. Usually, it doesn't take too long in our house until one of our ArcGIS licences is freed to solve the issue, but why it shouldn't work with QGIS? Thus the question: Is dissolve generally a bottle neck in QGIS or does it depend on the structure of the dataset? The polygones I deal with are never overlapping, but have either common borders or are seperated. At least, I could imagine this may be the reason why the algorithm is so slow? Re: [Qgis-user] Clipping tool takes a lot of time
Yes, convert format is based on ogr2ogr but I dont think it can be modified to do clip. Why don't you try running ogr2ogr from the command line? You need to navigate to the directory where both your shapefiles are stored and run the code just like in the blog post. I tried on Linux but it should be the same on Windows (command line on Windows is command prompt). ogr2ogr -clipsrc clipping_polygon.shp output.shp input.shp Hope it helps PS: It would be nice to add a clip algorithm based on ogr2og with -clipsrc since it seems to be much faster On Thu, Oct 16, 2014 at 1:16 AM, Jonas Sjögren jonas@gmail.com wrote: Hi again, unfortunately the processing is quite slow again with the difference algorithm, about 2,5 hours. Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS BROWSER uselessness!
The QGIS browser that's available inside QGIS is quite useful and for the most part it works as well as ArcCatalog. The only issue I have is that it's not possible to rename or delete layers with it (I think I submitted a feature request a about this 2 years ago). As for the standalone Qgis browser, I've never found any use for it. In the past I used ArcCatalog as a file manager for deleting and renaming shapefiles and rasters, but that was about it. [Qgis-user] R-Sextante scripts: ideas?
Hi all, QGIS 2.0 seems to be coming along well and according to what I've read on these lists it will be released soon. As you know, it is possible use R tools in QGIS via Sextante. There are some example scripts already but I think there should be more. A few months ago I made a few very simple tools but I'm now planning to work on some more complex stuff to include in QGIS 2.0. R itself can be used as GIS, which means there are plenty of tools to analyze GIS data. So I would like to ask everyone for ideas for new new algorithms. Here's an example: http://www.r-bloggers.com/getting-raster-histogram-in-qgis-using-sextante-and-r/?utm_source=feedburnerutm_medium=feedutm_campaign=Feed%3A+RBloggers+%28R+bloggers%29 If anyone has any suggestions, please share them. Re: [Qgis-user] Crash: merge shapefiles
Merge shapes from SAGA GIS (which can be used via Sextante) is quite fast, even with large shapefiles. The faster tool/code I tested is http://gistncase.blogspot.pt/2012/05/python-shapefile-merger-utility.html and it would be very nice to use it to replace the actual python code of the merge shapefiles qgis tool, see http://hub.qgis.org/issues/7208 cheers -- Giovanni -- ___ Qgis-user mailing list Qgis-user@lists.osgeo.org http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user ___ Qgis-user mailing list Qgis-user@lists.osgeo.org http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user
Re: [Qgis-user] [Qgis-developer] SEXTANTE adaptation to new SAGA version
Does anyone know if there's a ppa for Linux Ubuntu 12.04 available with SAGA GIS 2.10? On Sat, Jul 6, 2013 at 3:22 PM, samuelm...@gmail.com samuelm...@gmail.comwrote: Thanks Victor for the great work with SEXTANTE. The current version of SEXTANTE in master has been now adapted to work with SAGA 2.1.0, and raster algorithms will not work with any other version. Please, update your SAGA executables if using the latest master version, since now 2.1.0 is the target version. The only algorithm adapted so far is the raster export one, which, for SEXTANTE, was the most important one that had been modified, since it blocks all other raster algorithms. Other algorithms might have changed, but they are not adapted yet. If you find something that was working before and now it doesn't, please report. Also, if there are new algorithms, feel free to suggest them to be added to SEXTANTE as well, describing their syntax, if possible, to help us do it. Windows users, please notice that the Osgeo4W installer still ships with SAGA 2.0.8, so you will need to install SAGA 2.1.0 manually and change the SAGA path in SEXTANTE. [Qgis-user] creation of .gpx is not straightforward
Hi The process for creating .gpx is a bit cumbersome in my opinion. Users have to the following: To create waypoints: Data source: GPX_USE_EXTENSIONS=YES GPX_EXTENSIONS_NS=YES To create tracks: Data source: GPX_USE_EXTENSIONS=YES GPX_EXTENSIONS_NS=YES: and Layer creation field FORCE_GPX_TRACK=YES Uploading and downloading gps waypoints and tracks is a standard procedure (at least) for biologists and archaeologists and in IMHO it is not smooth in QGIS because of this. Would it be hard to program these options by default when creating a gpx? Or maybe add this functionality to GpsTools? If more users feel the same way I'll open a feature request. Re: [Qgis-user] Defining the SEXTANTE roadmap
Hi, I also think that the most important thing now is to fix existing bugs and to test all Sextante algorithms. From what I see in the bugtracker, I suspect there are entire areas of Sextante that haven't been tested by anyone at all (there are almost no tickets for Orfeo for example). I've been using Sextante for a while and each time I work with it I end up filing quite a few bug reports. At the moment I think that SAGA, GRASS, ftools and R integration make Sextante the most powerful geoprocessing platform thay I know of. So I would sugest prioritizing bug fixing and testing over integrating other backends/new tools. Thank you Victor once more for bringing Sextante to QGIS Best regards On Sat, Dec 1, 2012 at 11:27 AM, Bernd Vogelgesang bernd.vogelges...@gmx.de wrote: Am 30.11.2012, 23:52 Uhr, schrieb Victor Olaya vola...@gmail.com: Hi all As you might know, the SEXTANTE project started some time ago at the University of Extremadura (Spain), where I was working. I started creating the QGIS version at the beginning of this year, and now I do not work for the University, but I am still mantaining it. The University has some money that they would like to invest on improving SEXTANTE for QGIS, as this is the version they (and I personally share that) consider more relevant. I am not available for that task, as I have another job, but I would help coordinate the development in my spare time, as I do now. There are some priorities, which involve developing certain new analysis algorithms that are of interest, mostly for academic purposes, and creating good documentation about how to develop new SEXTANTE algorithms, so as to bring more developers in and ensure that SEXTANTE will keep on growing. But apart from that, we would like to hear from the community, to know what is better for SEXTANTE. So, in short: - The University has some money (not much...but some) and wants to invest it wisely - It is looking for ideas to define the work to do (apart from its particular interest), in order to turn SEXTANTE into a really powerful tool. - We are looking for someone to do this work. Let's start with the second point How do you think we should spend this money on SEXTANTE? Please, comment on this and help us push SEXTANTE forward. Many thanks in advance. Victor Hi Victor, when i saw the first annoucements for SEXTANTE in QGIS, i was really excited, and your responsiveness for this matter is really great. So, i would give the money to YOU ;) In a foreseeable future, the current plugin presentation in the standard menus and toolbar-icons will not be able to hold all functions in a comfortable way anymore. I personally think, the SEXTANTE approach (though i have NO idea what's technically behind it and what it was basically intended for) should become the core means for accessing functionalities in QGIS. ... actually like the ArcGIS-Toolbox, the only thing i really like on that software compared to the current QGIS way... It would be great if in the future, new (or rewritten) plugins could be designed directly towards a sextante integration (so if not possible to completely integrate, at least make the function findable through the search and then fire the custom form). Another thing i would really like to see in sextante and in qgis in general would be to be able to drag and drop layers into the forms instead of having to fumble through dozens of layers in a drop-down only. So that was my wishlist. Lets see what Santa Claus will bring ;) Bernd __**_ Qgis-user mailing list Qgis-user@lists.osgeo.org http://lists.osgeo.org/**mailman/listinfo/qgis-userhttp://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user -- Bernd Vogelgesang * Siedlerstrasse 2 * 91083 Baiersdorf * +49-9133-825374 __**_ Qgis-user mailing list Qgis-user@lists.osgeo.org http://lists.osgeo.org/**mailman/listinfo/qgis-userhttp://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user ___ Qgis-user mailing list Qgis-user@lists.osgeo.org http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user
[Qgis-user] Table Join in QGIS Master
Dear all, I tried to join a .csv and .dbf table (table1 with FieldA and FieldB) with a shapefile with Field A and Field B. The joined fields in the resulting shapefile were named table1FieldA and table2FieldB. In previous versions QGIS simply added FieldA and FieldB. Is this the new and intended behaviour? If yes, I dont think its a good idea, because if the table field''s names are relatively long, they will be trimmed in the final shapefiles eg. table1Fie. Re: [Qgis-user] Table Join in QGIS Master
Hi Marco Yes I think it is better that way. And how about adding a small suffix (eg. _a or _j) instead of the name of the table? If the field's names are small enough it would still be possible to distinguish between original and joined fields. Re: [Qgis-user] Where is R in QGIS Sextante
Hi R Sextante imports data via readogr () and writes them with (library rgdal). So your function has to accept an input created by readogr() and to export it as an ouput that writeogr() can write. After you've done that it's easy to put in Sextante. The instructions made by Victor are quite clear but I can help if necessary. Re: [Qgis-user] Cannot start NVIZ through SEXTANTE without vector layer
Like Anita, I also enjoyed having nviz on Sextante, but its certainly not something that I consider very important as an end user. Let me check it and I might put it back, so you can test it and eventually help us have a working thing that we can keep in SEXTANTE. You can also try DNRGPS, which is also open source and very works very well with Garmin GPS machines. http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/mis/gis/DNRGPS/DNRGPS.html On Tue, Aug 7, 2012 at 7:27 AM, wer...@macho.cc wrote: Hi!
