Frank,
This assumes your lines are drawn from some spatial file and you have
labeled them.
To display the labels for lines without the lines do this:
1. Open "Layer Properties" dialogue from menu or Layers Panel;
2. Click "Style" tab;
3. In the box that is center-left (QGIS 2.x) or top-left

If it's your own line layer (and nothing to do with the grid) then simply don't
style the layer but add labels only.

Sorry, I can't see how that this helps me print labels without their associated
linework. My Grid settings in print composer were already at "Frame and
Annotation only", and changing to "Markers

Hi Frank,
In the layout, in the item properties for the map, there's a section for "Grid".
If yo
anyway to show the Labels, but not the Simple Lines?

I normally use a text field and add one letter that represents a north
arrow from a font.
Those fonts can be found, well I believe in the internet, but as far I
know as well ESRI has its nort arrows as a font.
Then just add the relevant font to the folders where your OS keeps them.

I don't understand this. Is there no way to add a north arrow in the Print
Composer? You can easily add a scale.

I think it is not worth the effort to ask for that.
The devs had plenty of time to add a specific north arrow tool, but
obviously had no great interest in it.
The map canvas and the composer window are completely different
I think it is not worth the effort to ask for that.
The devs had plenty of time to add a specific north arrow tool, but
obviously had no great interest in it.
The map canvas and the composer window are completely different things, so
there is no automatism to have the same features within
Well I have to go and find north arrows if I want them in my print layout.
But when I'm just viewing them in my map they are available under
"decorations". It would be great if I could access the "decorations" in the
print layout - since they already exist somewhere within the app.

Not sure I understand what you mean by "not included in the layout" as it's
provided by the picture tool from the layout.
OK Thanks. That works. Seems a bit odd to have it included in the map view
but not the layout though. Maybe an upcoming feature? How do we suggest them
to the dev group?

Hi,
There's no north arrow specific tool in the layout; you need to use the image
item. See
https://docs.qgis.org/testing/en/docs/user_manual/print_composer/composer_items/composer_image.html

I noticed in the project view I can add a scale bar, and north arrow as
"decorations" - but no legend is available. In the layout I can add legends
and scale bars, but no north arrow is available. Pretty sure I'm missing
something somewhere???
