Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS3 Layout - North Arrow?
Just to weigh in as a daily user of GIS software as a spatial information analyst and field biologist; yes inserting a north arrow as an image works. However, it would be worthwhile to have a dedicated north arrow insert tool, like the scale bar tool, with number of north arrow options that is significantly increased over what is presently available in the "Search Directories" library of icons. Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS3 Layout - North Arrow?
Frank, This assumes your lines are drawn from some spatial file and you have labeled them. To display the labels for lines without the lines do this: 1. Open "Layer Properties" dialogue from menu or Layers Panel; 2. Click "Style" tab; 3. In the box that is center-left (QGIS 2.x) or top-left (QGIS 3.x), that shows "Line - Simple line" click on "Simple line"; 4. Click the dropdown labelled "Pen style" (QGIS 2.x) or "Stroke style" (QGIS 3.x); 5. Click "No Pen" in the dropdown; and 6. Click "OK". This will display the labels without the lines. It is an Open Street Map layer. I discovered that by selecting "Unclassified" for the line template, I end up with the look I want. Thanks for the help. Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS3 Layout - North Arrow?
Hi Frank, In the layout, in the item properties for the map, there's a section for "Grid". If you look in there, and use the "Modify grid" button there are a number of options under "Grid type". Thanks Phil, your instruction worked fine. Another issue: I have a Map Lines layer that I am using with Simple Lines and Labels. Is there anyway to show the Labels, but not the Simple Lines? Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS3 Layout - North Arrow?
I normally use a text field and add one letter that represents a north arrow from a font. Those fonts can be found, well I believe in the internet, but as far I know as well ESRI has its nort arrows as a font. Then just add the relevant font to the folders where your OS keeps them. Hi Frank, it is really easy if you know what to do. In your Print Composer 1. Add a Map: 2. Set rotation to anything <> 0 3. Add an Image: 4. Open "search directories" and pick a pre installed north arrow 5. Check "Sync with map" for "Image rotation" Good luck! Actually I disagree - I think there's room here to add a dedicated "north arrow" button to layout designer which adds a picture item but automatically defaults it to a nice north-arrow picture and sets to the match the main map's rotation. There would be no code duplication - it would still just be a standard picture item, but with some nice defaults so that new users can easily create north arrows. We do this approach in 3.0 with "line arrow" items too - effectively they are just the same as polyline items, but default to having an arrow marker on their end point. Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS3 Layout - North Arrow?
I don't understand this. Is there no way to add a north arrow in the Print Composer? You can easily add a scale. Hi 2018-03-27 17:20 GMT+02:00 knussear: > OK Thanks. That works. Seems a bit odd to have it included in the map view > but not the layout though. Not sure I understand what you mean by "not included in the layout" as it's provided by the picture tool from the layout. Re: [Qgis-user] QGIS3 Layout - North Arrow?
Hi, There's no north arrow specific tool in the layout; you need to use the image item. [Qgis-user] QGIS3 Layout - North Arrow?
I noticed in the project view I can add a scale bar, and north arrow as "decorations" - but no legend is available. In the layout I can add legends and scale bars, but no north arrow is available.
