A general question:
Why does this query:
area 100 area 1000
return the entire dataset,
when this query (same but with brackets):
(area 100) (area 1000)
returns the correct subset?
Surely they both evaluate to the same thing - my (limited)

Hi Regis,
It's a SpatiaLite database. I just tested this in a couple of SQLite
clients and they both exhibit the same behaviour, so I guess it's an SQLite
issue. Weird.
