Hi, for me it works perfect (QGIS 2.16.3, Windows 64bit). I can use my own SVG's to produce custom filled symbols. Which QGIS version do you use? Hi Tim, under "Settings -> Options -> System" you can define more SVG paths. Please insert the path, in which your symbol is located. Hope this helps.
