[Ql-Users] QL game release! - TRON legacy light cycles 2D
Hi folks, there has been a lot of discussion going on this list recently. Many nice ideas and dreams of new QL products were raised. But will all this ever happen? Well, something is happening now! For the first time since the QL went into oblivion (must have been 1986 or so) the industry had mercy with the QL community and the guys in charge let it happen. Walt Dizney Productions decided to allow a QL game release with their recent blockbuster motion picture TRON LEGACY 3D, a sequel of their 1982 cult film TRON. The QL game is called TRON Light Cycles. There's a video with a download link on this QL game. URL is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_Q0sTLhqKw Play the game and enjoy the weekend! Just a reminder that the deadline for the next issue of QL Today is next Saturday. At the moment we are a little short of copy although items are starting to trickle in and some are quite interesting, Best Wishes, Geoff PS Purely off topic but I shall expect you all to rush to Derby. Originally published in a German QL magazine and I think subsequently in a German or Dutch (I forget which) user group library. Written in basic and code. Nice little front end judging by the video. It loads 32 screens to the screen so might not work unless screen is at address 131072, or if using QPC2 could perhaps use the screen shadow (QPC_QLSCREMU command?) Looks good in the video at least. Re: [Ql-Users] IDE versus SD card
I would also like to see a SD card interface for the QL. We are in 2011 after all. Another thing I like about an SD card I/F is that it would be possible to develop a simple accelerator for the unexpended QL without the need for it to support floppy interface or hard drive. A bit like the brand new ACA amiga accelerators for the Amiga. I just bought a 56 MHz version, not because I realy need it, but because its fun to buy new hardware when you are a nerd :-) This makes me think, would it be difficult to design a simple interface that allow any (or some) Amiga accelerator card to be used on a QL? Some 32 bit to 8 bit translation circuits for the data bus and other stuff for timing and synchronisation. Just an idea. I recall typing it in, but it never did work properly. It was supposed to redefine the fount in order to display graphics, but that bit never seemed to work properly, and even if it did, the QL's lightcycle was about twice as fast as the player's, so it always won Happy days :) I'll have to see if I've still got it lurking on an old microdrive somewhere...
