[Ql-Users] Window redraw in PE
I know, that partialy overlapped window process in PE (both QDOS and SMSQ) will be paused on attempt to write into the window and is resumed again on its window activation. I have found PICE/PEX utility, that, if I understand correctly, redraws windows in the background, i.e., the running process is not stopped on the attempt to write into the window? That means smooth multitasking. http://www.sinclairql.it/qlextensions.htm#Pice Is it possible to include this feature into the latest SMSQ/E release? ___ QL-Users Mailing List http://www.q-v-d.demon.co.uk/smsqe.htm
Re: [Ql-Users] Window redraw in PE
Jiri, yes, it is perfectly possible. And already done ;) SMSQ/E in it's current version supports background tasks not vein stopped when they have output available, i.e. more or less what PICE/PEX did. The feature can be (de)activated using the PE_BGON and PE_BGOFF keywords. Sometimes, destiny is really nice to you and fulfills your wishes before you actually had them ;) Regards, Tobias Am 19.03.2013 um 21:47 schrieb Jiri Dolezal: I know, that partialy overlapped window process in PE (both QDOS and SMSQ) will be paused on attempt to write into the window and is resumed again on its window activation. I'm only half way through LibGen for goodness sake! :-( Well you still got the internet (And I'm sure you ain't going to break that ;) ). * Tobias * - please do not tempt fate ;-)) I really insist (please) do continue somewhere. Indeed. And that applies both to Norman's articles and QL Today (or any magazine which takes its place). Although Quanta mag continues of course, I hope we can see someone set up a QL magazine electronically, somehow, somewhere. It would be much cheaper than a paper magazine of course, and if published as a PDF just about anyone with access to a modern computer would be able to read it. Quanta mag is available as a PDF to those opting to receive it as such. So there is experience and precedence there. Dilwyn Jones ___ QL-Users Mailing List http://www.q-v-d.demon.co.uk/smsqe.htm

Take a look at TheMagPi.com ( I think, off the top of my head). It's a free magazine for Raspberry Pi users which can be read online or downloaded as a pdf. It is produced using the Scribus publishing package which is available for free, form Linux, Windows and Mac (as far as I know). Text can be imported from plain files, html, Libre/Open Office and so on. Word docs? I'm not sure. Definitely not Quill! If anyone remembers a while back when there was a discussion about producing an electronic version of QL Today, I mentioned it as a possible system. However, Jochen had spent a lot of time and effort in learning the system he used, and didn't want to learn a new system. It's still a possibility. I have my own plans, to finish my articles, or get them to a finished state anyway, and then publish the entire series as a single PDF. You'd be surprised at how small it is! I've been a user of Scribus for about 6 years. I did an e-zine for about three years. I have some problems with the work flow of Scribus, mostly updating older documents, but something like QL Today would be fairly easy. I'm willing to volunteer to do the layout if others are interested in writing the articles. The end result will be a full color PDF file that can them be e-mail or hosted (like Dave Park who has volunteered his website). For those who have little or no Internet access, a volunteer in the UK or in Europe can print out copies and charge for it and the mailing costs. I'm guessing that the print copies will mostly be in the UK. I don't know if there will be many in Europe. Tim Swenson ___ QL-Users Mailing List http://www.q-v-d.demon.co.uk/smsqe.htm
