The menu you see is my editing "standard" allows you to copy / load the
value to and from the scrap. for example if you have already copied the
value from another point with that menu you can paste it or copy it. Maybe
in that context it is not very useless but it is present in every editable
box in all my programs, I use a generic routine to do it.

The old behavior was that DMEDIUM_DRIVE returned -1 when pointing to a dos
disk. it was not "correct" but it allowed me to distinguish the two types.
what do i need it for?
I use it in a couple of programs .. in particular the new file manager that
I have created and which I think I will be able to publish in a few
weeks. Obviously
it works the same but in front of each device he placed an icon to be able
to identify it if cd / ram / win / dos It would be interesting to be able
to distinguish all the types but obviously I have no idea of the work this
entails. Mine is not a criticism, I'm just chatting.

I have already tried roughly all the various solutions and obviously we
know very well that they are solutions they don't really know satisfaction.
I also speak from the readability point of view, when you have to get your
hands by modifying the code written years before or written by other nested
cycles of functions are difficult to understand.
My question is straightforward: would anyone with assembler knowledge want
to try their hand at creating a new extension capable of solving the
problem?
I can offer him a drink! (good Italian wine!)

 "SELect ON" instruction
I find it has a major flaw that will not allow you to manage alphanumeric
variables,
I unfortunately don't know the assemly
Would someone be available to create an extension similar to SELECT (e.g.
SELECT $) capable of handling strings?
I understand that it is not simple .. :-(

[Ql-Users] 16th Sinclair QL Italian

2020-01-03 Thread Giorgio Garabello via Ql-Users
The 16th Sinclair QL Italian meeting will take place on Sunday 5 April
2020 at DTM Technologies premises in Modena.

We will start around 10:00 and the meeting will continue till 17:00 with
a break of one hour for lunch in the nearby shopping center.

As for the last two Italian meetings we will organize educational
sessions, we will have presentation of ongoing projects in Italy and we
hope to organize teleconferences with overseas users; to reserve your
connection session the details will be provided separately to the
interested persons.
How to reach

DTM is located in Northern Italy 2 Km far from “Modena Nord” A1 motorway
exit. The offices are located inside the “Direzionale Tacito 51-65”
building between the “Metro” and “Grandemilia” shopping centre. Closest
airport is Bologna “Guglielmo Marconi” which can be reached in 40 minutes
(45 Km). Verona airport is 102 Km far (1 hour). Milan and Florence can be
reached in 1h 30 minutes by car or by train with very convenient
connections. The “Mediopadana” high speed train station of Reggio Emilia
designed by Santiago Calatrava is 25 Km far from DTM
How to reach by car From the Motorway:

Take the exit Modena Nord on the A1 motorway (0 Km – toll gate). After 0,5
Km you will reach a roundabout (A). Remember to keep the left lane before
reaching this roundabout. Take the exit for “Fiera” (270°) and you will
pass over the A1 motorway. You will soon reach another roundabout (B –
1,3Km). Take second exit direction “Reggio Emilia – SS9”, you are now in
Viale Virgilio. At the next roundabout (C – 1,7 Km)) take the 2nd exit
following the direction “Reggio Emilia SS.9”. On your left you will find
the “Metro” shopping mall. Just after the flags and the bus stop (2,0 Km)
turn right in Via Omero. At the next cross-road turn right in Via Tacito
(2,3 Km). DTM is located at the end of the street (2,5 Km) in the corner of
the building on your left.
From Statale 9 Emilia.

You will find a traffic light (D) and if you arrive from Reggio Emilia on
your left (or on your right if you arrive from Modena) you will see a very
big sign showing the current exposition in Modena Fair. Turn there, after
200m just before the bus stop and the flags turn right into Via Omero.
After 400m turn right in Via Tacito. DTM is located at the end of the
street in the corner of the building on your left.
How to reach DTM by train

Stop at Modena railway station. Then take a TAXI or in alternative take Bus
n.9 that stops in front of “Metro” shopping mall (then follows the
instructions given above). You should ask for the stop “Viale Virgilio –
Metro”. Please note that some of these buses does not stop in Viale
Virgilio but proceed directly towards Rubiera. In that case you have to
stop in Via Emilia beside the big “Grandemilia” shopping centre. Then you
will have to walk for 5 minutes to reach DTM.

Stop at Reggio Emilia “Mediopadana” high speed railway station. Then take a
TAXI to Modena which is located 25 Km far from the Mediopadana station. Or
from the Mediopadana station get but/train to Reggio Emilia railway station
and with the local trains you can reach Modena railway station

Re: [Ql-Users] Updating my QLE

2019-06-05 Thread Giorgio Garabello via Ql-Users
To update the system, Black Phoenix has its own method of maintaining
(only a few).
The WIN1_SYS_DESKTOP_DESKTOP_bas file must be created and inserted into a
.WIN to be hooked as WIN2_ using the precise name: "WIN2_DESKTOP_bas"

In this way BP does not execute its own DESKTOP file but executes the one
in WIN2_

This way I can modify the file that configures the desktop and insert some
changes or loadings of extensions that I want to keep when I update to BP.

The method is not the best but at the moment we cannot do much ...
moreover, you need to know a little about SMSQE

Black Phoenix is still a product too recent ... when it comes in a more
complete form you can think of managing automatic updates ... but for now
it's not possible.

If ipnet works then then all the rest will work (I hope).

It would be something to try. Giorgio

Of course no.

There'a big difference between an intentional write ( i want to use YOUR
DB,) and a casual overwrite (oh sorry, we are using the same field) don't
think as DBA, thinks as a user that install a lot of sw on his system
without know how these works.
Of course this is only philosophy :-)

IMHO it's too vulnerable, anyone can change that.
It would be much safer to store it in an internal application database.
It is the concept itself that an application can directly modify file
system data that is dangerous.

[Ql-Users] File header info

2018-09-27 Thread Giorgio Garabello via Ql-Users
On QDOS/SMSQ reference manual (Section 7) I've fond the following
informations:

Each file is assumed to have a 64-byte header (the logical beginning of
file is set to byte 64, not byte zero).
This header should be formatted as follows:

$00 long file length
$04 byte file access key (used by third parties software)
$05 byte file type
$06 8 bytes file type-dependent information
$0E 2+36 bytes file name
$34 long update date [EXT,DD2]
$38 word version number [DD2]
$3A word reserved
$3C long backup date [DD2]

File access key what is that?
File type dependant info ..as above
word reserved..for what?
Backup date?

other question...where is the dataspace? maybe the "File type dependant
info"?

thanks in advance

[Ql-Users] Odd behavour of the DIR command?

2018-07-26 Thread Giorgio Garabello via Ql-Users
>From the QL Forum:

"I have had a report of a problem with my IP Network driver. But the
symptoms suggest to me that its an operating system problem.
If you set up a network of two stations NET 2, and NET 3
On NET 2 you run the file server FSERVE, and it has a directory WIN1_PRG_
On NET 3 you use NFS_USE shd,n2_win1_prg_
Now from NET 3 all of the following works as expected
DIR n2_win1_prg_
DIR shd1_
DIR n2_win1_prg_fifi_ ,where fifi_ is a subdirectory of win1_prg_
SAVE shd1_fifi_filename
VIEW shd1_fifi_xxx ,where xxx is a file that exists
OPEN_DIR#3,shd1_fifi_ : FOR x=0 to 128:PRINT INKEY$(#3) ; To read the file
headers
However DIR shd1_fifi_ just returns the the drive details, and no files.
Now I know I have had problems with the DIR command and Networks before.
But before I dig out a couple of real QL's and set up a Network to test
this. Does anyone know if this is a known problem with the DIR command on a
QL Network, rather than a problem in my driver?"

Hi everyone, John kindly sent me a lot of photos of the cable and the
manual.
Unfortunately, the design of the card is missing, without which it is not
possible to recreate the cable.
Do any of you have this documentation?

[Ql-Users] about QL, work, hobby, free time and other things......

2018-03-03 Thread Giorgio Garabello via Ql-Users
Marcel Kilgus in a recent post wrote "I don't think you all realize how
much work these "tiny fixes" usually are".

In this simple sentence Marcel highlighted a big problem, our free time.
We are no longer young, we have a job, a family, problems of various kinds
and the time to devote to the QL is really not much.
The simplest of programs takes hours to be developed and tested. A person
alone can not do it.
To try to solve these problems in Italy we have created the "Quantum
Technology" project which organizes small work groups and divides the tasks.
We are a dozen people and we are constantly growing.
why do not you also try to create something similar?

Hmmm... was there _software_ support at the time of writing?

The Q40 supports both original QL hardware modes and 16 bit highcolour.

[Ql-Users] Q40 display mode

2017-11-11 Thread Giorgio Garabello via Ql-Users
From SMSQE Manual...

Page 47

DISP_TYPE
The DISP_TYPE function is used to find the type of display. For standard QL
style displays in MODE 4 (any resolution) DISP_TYPE returns 0. The value
returned on other display systems may vary according to the hardware and
colour depth. In general, on SMSQ/E versions supporting higher colour
modes, and on Atari emulator cards, the following values may be returned.
0 – QL style display (MODE 4)
1 - Extended mode 4 emulator (standard and extended display sizes) on Atari.
2 - QVME mode 4 emulator on Atari.
3 - Aurora LCD
4 - Monochrome display on Atari.
5 - Aurora QL mode
8 – QL MODE 8 display
16 – 8-bit (256 colour) mode
32 – 16-bit colour mode on QPC, QXL and SMSQmulator
*33 – 16-bit colour mode on Q40 and Q60*
64 – 24-bit colour mode (no hardware supports this at the time of writing)

Page 95

DISP_TYPE
The DISP_TYPE function is used to find the type of display. For the Q40,
there are two values that may be returned.
0 Original ST QL emulator (this value is returned on QL based hardware).
*1 16 bit colour mode.*

Which of the two is the right one?

Re: [Ql-Users] QMenu v8

yes, but probably is a QDT problem..
QMenu 7.66 has a lot of problem, ink color in view_file remains always
black, extension filter don't work and some other problems... Qmenu 8,
works well..
maybe in QDT the author has done some "tricks" .
Probably the author had to make some adjustments to make it work, which
pggi annoy version 8.
