needing to be scanned (I may be wrong of course).

Re: [Ql-Users] QL User grapic competition from 1985: Tree

2020-04-16 Thread Dilwyn (gmail) via Ql-Users
I wonder if this could be the same Andrew Pritchard who wrote some QL
software such as QL Conquest, Reversi, SAM, SWIPE, ADVgen, Playwright and
Scriptwriter for CGH Services back in the 1980s? I'm afraid I don't have
contact details or know if he can be reached.

Some of his software is on my Games page and other pages on my site (use the
site search box on home page to find them by searching for "Pritchard").

Subject: [Ql-Users] QL User grapic competition from 1985: Tree

Dear all,

I have a 1985 issue of 'QL User', where the results of a graphics
competition were posted. Basic programs of limited length, to produce
some image. The contribution that impressed me most (by far!) was 'Tree'
by A. Pritchard. That was a random image with a tree in the foreground,
an island in the background. With the tree being painted by recursion.
Very cool.

Does anyone here by chance know if A. Pritchard still can be reached?
The reason I am asking: when I recently told a colleague from UK about
this, it turned out he knew a person named A. Pritchard in the early
1980's, who was a fanatic of the ZX Spectrum at the time.

This is the (somewhat expanded for better readability) code:

[Ql-Users] QL-VGA case article

2020-03-19 Thread Dilwyn (gmail) via Ql-Users
I've written an article on my blog about making a case for my QL-VGA
prototype. Important to realise that this is a prototype board - the
finished product may differ a little. But it was quite easy to do and will
protect the board and looks tidier than a bare board.

Re: [Ql-Users] LaunchPad

2020-03-06 Thread Dilwyn (gmail) via Ql-Users
Sadly, this list doesn't seem to allow graphics and the email was received
as plain text anyhow, so the screen dump never came through.

Are you referring to the screen picture on http://qlheaven.blogspot.com/ by
any chance?

That shows the most recent version of Launchpad, running in high colour
mode, with a new system font (set from SBASIC with the CHAR_DEF command so
ALL programs use that font by default, including Launchpad), and some GD2
sprites presumably defined by the blog author for his/her own use (wonder if
the blog author could be persuaded to share some of those nice sprites?).

There are only two "current" versions of Launchpad:

1. v0.96, the older version for systems without Window Manager 2

2. v2.10, the recommended version if your system supports WIndow Manager 2.

Both can be downloaded free of charge (password protection was removed back
in 2017) from http://www.dilwyn.me.uk/gen/launchpad/demo/demo.html . I
appreciate that the URL of the download page implies it's a demo, but
nowadays the download is actually the full version.

Hope that helps,

P.I.Cole-The Case Of The Missing Doxie

I've added Andrei Tenu's game, P.I.Cole-The Case Of The Missing Doxie to the
Adventure Games page on my website.

In this game you play the part of detective Cole and you have to find a
missing woman. The story gets more complex as you play. Collect information
and find the answers to "What really happened?", "Who done it?" and "Why?"
before the final confrontation in the game, which reveals them all.

There are various versions for different platforms such as FLP image, MDV
image (for vDrive users), a QXL.WIN version and a generic zipped version for
most other systems. The sources for the game are available too, along with a
PDF file manual.

[Ql-Users] Greek Psion Programs For QL

Greek Psion Programs For QL

Thanks to Christos Kotampitsis, I’ve been able to add a DD disk image (plus
a zip file version) of the four Psion programs for the QL – Archive, Abacus,
Easel and Quill, Greek versions.

The package is based on version 2.43 of the programs, if the boot programs
are to be believed. Christos told me that this disk was preserved by Mr Aris
Papanikolaou and was made originally by Microtec in Athens.

[Ql-Users] QLWARZ 02

2020-02-11 Thread Dilwyn (gmail) via Ql-Users

QLWARZ 02

Per Witte has released version 02 of his QLWARZ utility to stretch, refresh,
or defragment a hard drive on QPC2. As there is no way to extend a QXL.WIN
filing container, this program takes the next best approach and formats a
new one with a different capacity and copies directories and files over to
the new QXL.WIN.

Version 02 now supports 20 character medium names. The reason this requires
an update is that, after many years, some versions of SMSQ/E (eg
SMSQmulator) now do the right thing and take the length count word into
consideration, meaning that in most cases you are no longer limited to a 10
character medium name.

Per explains in the readme file with the software that some BASIC commands
may still truncate the 20 character names to 10 characters, as they ignore
the word length count (e.g. DMEDIUM_NAME$ and STAT), as well as QPAC2 Files
menu, although he hopes that these will be updated in due course.

[Ql-Users] QBits Software

2020-01-29 Thread Dilwyn (gmail) via Ql-Users

I've added quite a few QL software packages from QBits to my site this week.

These are mostly updated versions of older QL software from the company.

Games, file handler, sound and graphics programs are included. Mostly in
BASIC with PDF manuals.

When these were announced on QL Forum, many of the early adopters remarked
on the excellent screen layout designs and well written manuals.

The most recent additions are listed on the site updates page on my site.
http://www.dilwyn.me.uk/history.html

In all, the list includes QBFtidy (file handler), QBQLSounds (sound
exploring package), QBBMDesign (bitmaps graphics designer), and QB3D
graphics. The games include QBMD (minesweeper), QBConundrum, QBdarts,
QBGolf, QBWarehouse, QBGalaxyAD2370 and QBMaze.
