QubLink v1.04 is a PE driven utility program allowing an easy way to

utilities WINLINK (from G.Underwood) and QIRC (from P.Witte) together.

It works on expanded BBQL with QubIDE/Clones under QDOS/Minerva, Qx0

QPAC2 are only recommended.

QubLink was written by QubATA author Alain Haoui.

DiReXt is a system toolkit which adds a few commands to BASIC to

DiReXt, also known as Directories Recursive eXtensions, consists of

RENAME_DIR - rename recursovely a whole DIR tree
COPY_DIR - copy recursively a whole DIR tree
MOVE_DIR - move recursively a whole DIR tree
BACKUP_DIR - backup recursively a whole DIR tree
SYNC_DIR - synchronise two directory trees
DUP_DIR - duplicate a directory tree (only directories)
LIST_DIR - list all files in a directory tree
STAT_DIR - show statistics for each subdirectory

Bob Spelten jr. has released version 1.05 of the BMP graphics viewer

Convert BMP graphics (from 24-bit to 1-bit types) to QL graphics files
- screens, PIC files, PSA/PAC files, or Page Designer pages. Convert
from QL graphics files to BMP (16-bit or 24-bit) for transfer to other
systems. View files, convert QL file types and convert between screen
modes.

The QL files can now be RLE compressed as PAC files, using similar
compression to compressed GD2 sprites, thanks to routines from Per
Witte. RLE compression under the operating system is normally only
used for GD2 sprites.

There is a 'scaling' option to allow a picture being viewed to be
resize to fit the window. And some support for Mode 12 (Thor XVI)
screens and QDesign compressed _Pgn and mode 2 mono files.

Thanks.

Already using it :)

Thanks for playing, François,

But its not MY problem. It is A problem. I normally manage to work
around it these days, as I do numerous other little quirks and
"features".

It only became a problem for me 'tother day  after I merged some some
well-tested library routines with a larger project, not realising that
some of my global variables happened to have the same name as the
parameters of some function (Duh!) Then I wasted a stressful hour and
a half trying to figure out why the program would just hang without
there being anything "wrong" with it. (It compiled with Qlib and the
Turbo parser did not report any relevant errors, etc.) I made some
changes and then I kept getting nonsense structural errors instead. In
other words a huge time waster; just the sort of thing to put people
off writing decent, modern programs  in SBASIC for SMSQ/E!

That being said, I dont expect anyone to try to fix it! It takes some
skill and, more importantly, "being in the picture". Ie it takes time
to get into the thing, especially if it has been a while. And bug
hunting can be a dreadful, time consuming business even for the best.

At least by bringing it up here, where there still appears to be some
interest in SMSQ/E and QL software, people may be made aware and save
themselves some head/heartache.

SBASIC only: EXecute the following program:

100 ch = FOPEN("con"): CLS#ch
110 test ch, 1
120 PAUSE#ch
130 CLOSE#ch
140 :
150 DEFine PROCedure test(ch, a)
160 PRINT#ch; a
180 END DEFine test

Result in this case:

At line 150:4 DEFines may not be within other clauses

However there are various error conditions depending on how the program
is constructed. In the worst case it just hangs and must be RJOBed.

What seems to get the interpreter's knickers in a twist is a parameter
being referenced using the same name as the parameter, 'ch' in this case.
This is supposed to be perfectly "legal". I dont know when this behaviour
started but Ive noticed it for a while.

It would be nice if this could be fixed as, for example, in larger
projects, when using library code you dont necessarily notice that
variable

names are the same a parameter names, and so you may end up getting
unexplained hangs or obscure error messages that dont actually relate to
the problem.

but I didn't understand exactly what you mean (in that menu)
My fault, unfortunately my English sucks

To avoid a new menu popping up, you ought to replace all occurences of
scale

-256 to +256 with -255 to +255 and keep the loose item ‘ok’ unavailable
until the correct values are entered,

Entering wrong values are sometimes corrected by the program but not
always. Wrong values allow the popup of a new menu ( see Filter →Pixel).
But this behaviour seems unpredictable here, at least to me. So make it
impossible to use values that are out of range .

Make it impossible to enter wrong values for all the other colour items.

I think I have found the problem: not that difficult after all.

Try this:

1. load an image

2. choose Colours

3. choose Brightness

4. put the mouse pointer over the editable loose item

5. Press the right button of the mouse

6. a new menu will pop up.

See attachment

Up to here, everything ok .. then? which attach? I do not understand..

So, make sure the user can't leave the Brightness with a DO on an
editable loose item.

This behaviour is the same for all Colours items.

There is another problem with Export/Save with name: you should add a
'_' or a '.' before the extension, else the file will be saved without a
valid extension.

Yes this is easy
Thanks for your help

Hi Giorgio,

I have seen the comments about Qtimage on the QL-forum but I’m not a

Here are my comments:

1) There seems to be something wrong when launching Qtimage from RAMx_

I suppose there are some data in your dbs-files referring to absolute
‘addresses’ instead of relative ones. eg. Winx_ instead of relying on
PROG_USE?

2) After an error, Qtimage still leave a ‘temp file’. After testing, a
lot of such are left on the Hard Drive.

3) My Qtimage in installed on Win2_ . All my programs run from there
except BP for testing.

I have been testing the Filters in Qtimage and this is what I found:

Smoothing OK

Sharpen OK

Raised OK

Gaussian blur

motion OK

boxed OK

gaussian OK

Dithering

Level 0 to 4 OK

Level 5 to 9 OK but colours disappear

Coarse OK

Medium OK

Feint 0 to 2 OK

Edge 0 to 9 OK

Pixel

dimension 0 no modification but colours change

dimension 2 to 96 OK

dimension 100 : a new menu pops up with Copy, Cut, Paste, Clear field

I didn’t investiged this menu.

Mosaic

up to 14 OK

16 a new menu pops up. I didn’t investiged this menu

If you enter value 15, it is changed to 16 (which is correct) but no new
menu.

Merge

seems to work. I didn’t try to merge a third image. I’ll try that later,

I hope this will help you debugging Qtimage.

Next time I’ll test other things.

Re: [Ql-Users] Q-Liberator v3.45

2021-12-04 Thread François Van Emelen via Ql-Users

Op 29/11/2021 om 17:20 schreef Dilwyn Jones via Ql-Users:

Version 3.45 of the Q-Liberator BASIC compiler has been launched.

This version was submitted to me by Per Witte, who has done a fair bit
of work on rationalising the distribution, by splitting the compiler
into a runtime disk (what you need to compile programs) and a sources
disc, for those who like to study the sources of the compiler to see
how it works and who may like to co-operate on future development and
bug fixes.

In this new version 3.45 (or v3.45a as it appears on-screen), there is
a bug fix relating to Externals (compiled external procedures), where
the HISTORY_TXT file says that “A fixed location in Qlib_run was
sought but not found due to change in length of introduction string.”

There is no significant change to the functionality of the compiler
since the previous version.

The compiler is available to download as either floppy disc images or
as regular QL format zipped files for those whose systems don’t
support floppy disc images.

On the runtimes disc, the package is now split into a set of
directories with the documents in one directory, for example, and the
demo files in another directory. While fairly obvious, it does mean it
needs to be used on a system which support level 2 filing system – a
system supporting QL directories.

The runtime compiler disc is a single 720K disc image, while the
sources come on a larger 1.4MB disc image.

Q-Liberator v3.45 may be downloaded free of charge from my website at
http://www.dilwyn.me.uk/qlib/index.html . In case of difficulty, it
may also be downloaded from the mirror site at
http://dilwyn.qlforum.co.uk/qlib/index.html . In both cases, scroll
down to the “QLiberator v3.45” section about halway down the page.

Previous recent versions of the compiler will remain available for
posterity, or in case issues with the current version force you to
revert to using an earlier version. The last full commercial version
of the compiler from publisher Liberation Software was v3.36.

Dilwyn.

Hi,

Just to chime in, the newest SMSQmulator (hopefully) to come out in a
few days will do the same, i.e. treat NFA/SFA as win type.

There is a reason for (at least for me):

I use QD extensively.
When QD saves data to a file, it first of all checks the device type via
iof.xinf. If it detects that the drive is registered as a an msdos type
device, it saves the file with line ending CR+LF, instead of the normal
LF as used on win devices.

If you now try to use the MacroAssembler to assemble a file that
contains macros, this will fail (the MA seems to calculate the number of
bytes it has got, which will be wrong as the NFA driver converts CF+LF
to LF automagically) The MA then resets the file position to somewhere
in the file, corresponding to the number of bytes before the macro (I
suppose to read th emacro again) and that will be wrong, so that it
reads something other in the file and then fails.

That being said, might I make a suggestion?

Indeed, that's not the right way, one should use the DMEDIUM_TYPE
function for that (returns 1 - qdos, 2 - msdos etc) - but this won't
help you, as that now returns "qdos" device type for dos and nfa/sfa.

However, the specifications also provide for a device sub-type, which is
not returned by any function and which, AFAIK is not used. One might
possibly use that to return 1 or 2 as sub-type also.

I'd be willing to create the new basic keyword for that in SMSQE
("DMEDIUM_STYPE").

Would that be agreeable to all?

things to
get fixed, and incremental improvements that relate to things I
actually find
useful!)  As usual, the wise guys at M$ have, for their own ineffable
reasons,
re-arranged the furniture to no discernable purpose, other than, no
doubt,

to leverage their colonisation of my privacy.

At least one of their insane "improvements" is to move the keyboard
language
indicator, which was happily situated on the task bar/system tray,
into its own
blob on the screen. I need to switch keyboard layouts as I type in
different
languages, and not having an indicator is as bad, or worse, than not
having a
capslock indicator. (But at least on my "QL" I can fix the latter
myself!)

The problem is that *this blob shines through* in QPC2 and
SMSQmulator's full

screen mode! (I never think of my QL as just another Windows "app"!) In
SMSQmulator its a dud, ie its not clickable, but in QPC2 the blob is
active and
hostile. Yet the last thing one wants in an emulator is some other
system's

active control shining through, messing up one's display where it has no
business!

Some Windows and Web movie applications in full screen mode manage to
blot out
the blob, but others dont/cant. But that must mean that it is possible
at least.

Any tips or suggestions as to how this may be dealt with are welcome!
Im new to
W11, so perhaps I just havent found the way to put the indicator back
where it
belongs - visible, but out of the way when you dont want it. (And why
they hell

did they take away Toolbars!)

Below a summary of the program section from where the error occurs.

   DEF FN GetScreen(..)
    :...
    IF hd =10
 MC_ProcA parms..
    ELSE
 er%= MC_FnB(..)
 :...
    END IF
    :...
    IF NOT rn% : er%= SetDBS(..)
REM > rn% is set if the screen file is in the database
    :...
    RETurn 0
   END DEF
   :...
   DEF FN SetDBS(..)
    :...
    er= FDB_SET(..)
    :...
    PRINT er
    REturn er
   END DEF
   :

The program is numberless and testrun from QD with the F10 Sbas/qd
thing.

The code for the MC_ProcA and MC_FnB keywords has also successfully been
tested in other Basics.

MC_FnB nicely returns zero in er% and not one of the possible
negative values.
SetDBS does some DBAS handling and doesn't return an error in er, as
tested just before the RETurn line which produces the "RETurn not..."
error. Checking the database confirms that SetDBS works properly.

Strangely when I REM the SetDBS call, the same error is given in
another FN when GetScreen has long been left by its own RETurn.

Also the MC_ProcA route does not generate the error when doing the
SetDBS call or in the other Sbas FN if skipping SetDBS.

When I compile the Basic with QLIB v3.36 there are no errors reported
and the compiled _obj executes without producing this error.

Of course the Sbas version differs slightly from the _obj but this
has mainly to do with reporting variable values. Also the Basic
extensions as for the MC_xxx ones above are LRESPR'd in the Sbas run
and $$asmb'd by Qlib.

The numbered Basic as generated by BasicLinker and then run from job 0
produces the same error as run from QD.

So what could be messing up my RETurns?

Bob

You could replace 'EXISTS' with 'LOOKUP%'.

'LOOKUP%' can be found in 'function_code' by Simon Goodwin's toolkit series.

No, I meant 'INSTR' but I completely forgot fonctions are not present

'WHERE' and 'EXISTS' can't detect function either.

INSTR_CASE is present in 'EXTRAS' as it is an instruction.

In A. the Move window call is trapped by the system, so it never
reaches line 220. In B. you need to add the instruction to move the
window, for example WMOV. This gives you the opportunity to carry out
other stuff before and after the the move instruction. The standard
key for this is CF4, tho'.

WMOV has evolved over the years, so make sure youre using the latest

In my programme WMOW is of course present in line 215. Yes of course, in

In this way BP does not execute its own DESKTOP file but executes the one

This way I can modify the file that configures the desktop and insert some

The method is not the best but at the moment we cannot do much ...
moreover, you need to know a little about SMSQE

Black Phoenix is still a product too recent ... when it comes in a more

Hi François,

I tried your program with different devices, this is what I found:

    ram1    flp2    win1 dos1/nfa1 win3 dos3/nfa3
SMSQmulator

f=fop_new(fichier$)  4   4   4 -7 4    -7*
dmedium_rdonly(\dev$)    0   0   0 0 0 0
dmedium_type(\dev$)  0   1   2 2 2 2
dmedium_name$(\dev$) RAM1    MyFlp   Syst   NFA DRIVE 1 Pics   NFA
DRIVE 3

QPC2 (V4.xx)

f=fop_new(fichier$)  4   4   4 -23**  4 4
dmedium_rdonly(\dev$)    0   0   0 0 0 0
dmedium_type(\dev$)  0   1   2 -1 2    -1
dmedium_name$(\dev$) RAM1    MyFlp   System C:\ Pics  Temp

* The reason NFA file returned -7 here is because the : in the date
got translated
to " on the drive: April 9th 2019 17:06:51 -> April 9th 2019 17"06"51,
so it

couldnt find the file it had just created!

** -23 => Access denied on system root. DMEDIUM_RDONLY reported 0..

The  problem doesnt, IMHO, lie with DMEDIUM_xxx. Its down to the
various driver implementations. It would, of course be good if the
various drivers could all behave in a consistent way. With QPC2 and
SMSQmulator there is still hope, but for many other systems, like the
Falkenberg HDD interface (ref the SBASIC/SuperBASIC Reference Manual)
that boat has probably sailed.

Oh, that actually is a bug. It's supposed to be 2 of course. I have
translated the code into C last weekend and thus already fixed it
without even knowing that it was broken.

The other relates to iof.xinf directly, but that is not wired up to

Looks like the structure is somehow offset by some bytes, as that is

I was thinking more about the line of DMEDIUM_RDONLY and

got the most common cases now at least.

Hi Francois,

I have just tried PWFile on SMSQm8 but I can see the files and can

Are you sure you have a valid NFAx device and not renamed NFA to DOS?
By default PWFile selects only those directories that are configured

You're right, replacing 'dos' with 'nfa' followed by a reset solves
the problem.

But then my next question is : why is 'nfa' OK  and  'dos' is not OK?
Sorry for the delay,  problems with my mailing server.

You are right, there is a problem. But it seems to be PWFile itself.
Renaming the device is not recognised, it sticks to the original name.
Renaming DOS to NFA under QPC2 presents the same problem.
The same is true for renaming WIN to MDV.

Hi Francois,

I have just tried PWFile on SMSQm8 but I can see the files and can
open them.

Are you sure you have a valid NFAx device and not renamed NFA to DOS?
By default PWFile selects only those directories that are configured
in ProWess else you must edit the device by hand.

Bob

Hi Bob,

You're right, replacing 'dos' with 'nfa' followed by a reset solves the
problem.

But then my next question is : why is 'nfa' OK  and  'dos' is not OK?

Sorry for the delay,  problems with my mailing server.

Have a fine day.

WHat is the problem with PWFILE?

In the Prowess Distribution, Multiview works OK with SMSQmualtor NFA
device, Q68 FAT device.

Hi Derek,

What do you mean with 'PWFILE looks to of been a commerical Prowess
application by Progs.' Is it still commercial? (I'm not a native speaker)

Dates on my floppies (pwfile, pwsearch, pwlist,...) are between 1995 and
1997). I bought all those programs directly from Nathan/Jonathan) as
they used to live only 10km from my home. I think these floppies are
updates made in Eindhoven (QL meetings) where I met Nathan or his brother.

With the above explanation, I want yo emphasise that I'm using the
original progs.

My original question was not about Muliview or Viewer but about PWfile
itself. I'll try to be more acurate  using an example:

1. Launch PWfile (smsqumatator)

2.go to 'directory' and replace 'winx_ 'with ''nfax_'

All files in that device  should be visible now. My question is :Can you
see them?

Hi Giorgio,

I tested qtimage-1-4 last night and I noticed that the border
thickness I mentioned a few months ago hasn't been fixed.

You told me that it is a 's_wsa' bug. I can't confirm nor infirm that,
but there is an easy way to avoid QTimage to crash when entering a
border thickness of 0.

A border thickness of 0 is synonymous with no border all all.

So, after pressing OK, test the value of border thickness first. If it
is 0, close the menu without launching your 'border thickness
routine', as if you had closed the menu with the 'close icon' and
QTimage will not crash.

I had a peek at  the Black Phoenix 1.5. It seems promissing. Will it
be useable with SMSQmulator?

Have a fine weekend.

I have just updated QD 2018 to version B.05:

; B.05 Implemented per-extension editor-usage (configurable) (MK)
; Fixed BASIC usage for DEFine FuNction (MK)
; Fixed colours in replacement confirmation dialog (MK)
; Fixed DO on resize to keep the x window size (MK)
; Bottom right corner stays where it is on normal resize (MK)
; Allow CTRL+Z (mark current line) in read-only mode (MK)

As previously with the tab settings the editor-usage can now be
configured per extension, so you can say all "_bas" (or "_bsl" ;) )
files automatically invoke the "BASIC" editor usage, for example.

The rest is the stuff we've already talked about here.
