the per-extension file usage feature, a very unfortunate and

In A. the Move window call is trapped by the system, so it never
reaches line 220. In B. you need to add the instruction to move the
window, for example WMOV. This gives you the opportunity to carry out
other stuff before and after the the move instruction. The standard

In my programme WMOW is of course present in line 215. Yes of course, in

In this way BP does not execute its own DESKTOP file but executes the one

This way I can modify the file that configures the desktop and insert some
changes or loadings of extensions that I want to keep when I update to BP.

The method is not the best but at the moment we cannot do much ...
moreover, you need to know a little about SMSQE

Black Phoenix is still a product too recent ... when it comes in a more

I noticed some months ago that some DMEDIUM-functions returned wrong

Hi François,

I tried your program with different devices, this is what I found:

SMSQmulator

f=fop_new(fichier$)  4   4   4 -7 4    -7*

DRIVE 3

QPC2 (V4.xx)

f=fop_new(fichier$)  4   4   4 -23**  4 4
dmedium_rdonly(\dev$)    0   0   0 0 0 0
dmedium_type(\dev$)  0   1   2 -1 2    -1
dmedium_name$(\dev$) RAM1    MyFlp   System C:\ Pics  Temp

* The reason NFA file returned -7 here is because the : in the date
got translated
to " on the drive: April 9th 2019 17:06:51 -> April 9th 2019 17"06"51,
so it

couldnt find the file it had just created!

** -23 => Access denied on system root. DMEDIUM_RDONLY reported 0..

The  problem doesnt, IMHO, lie with DMEDIUM_xxx. Its down to the
various driver implementations. It would, of course be good if the
various drivers could all behave in a consistent way. With QPC2 and

Oh, that actually is a bug. It's supposed to be 2 of course. I have
translated the code into C last weekend and thus already fixed it
without even knowing that it was broken.

The other relates to iof.xinf directly, but that is not wired up to

Looks like the structure is somehow offset by some bytes, as that is

It would be very useful if someone would/could debug the
'DMEDIUM_XXX' functions.

Have a fine day,

François Van Emelen

Hi,

As my programming skills are limited to some easy basic, I can't argue
about "DMEDIUM_TYPE returns -1 on DOS devices (the underlying iof.xinf
call suggests: IOI_FTYP $2C Byte Format type (1=qdos, 2=msdos etc) but
-1 is arguable..)"

I noticed some months ago that some DMEDIUM-functions returned wrong
values (see SBASIC/SuperBASIC Reference Manual Online Documentation
Release 4.0.1 Rich Mellor).

Not only wrong values but also differences between Smsqmulator and Qpc.
And as there is a new release of QPC in the pipeline, I thought it was
right time to try to convince Marcel to do some work on those
DMEDIUM-functions .

You could try this in QPC and SMSQMULATOR to see the difference.

90  REMark test for for some dmediium_xxx functions
100 OPEN_OVER#3,'ram2_rdonly_txt'   ::datad_temp$=DATAD$
110  REMark Why does 'dmedium_rdonly(\dev$) return 0 instead of 1
120  REMark Why does 'dmedium_type(\dev$) return -1 instead of 3
130  REMark Why does 'line 240  return  -23  WITH qpc2 (which seems
correc)t BUT -7 with SMSQMULATOR

140  dev$='dos3_' :d$=DATE$
150 REMark DOS3_   is an external USB CD DRIVE
160 DATA_USE 'dos3_'
170  fichier$=dev$$
180 WHEN ERRor
190 IF  ERNUM:PRINT#3,ERLIN,ERNUM:END IF
200 END WHEN
210 d= FTEST(dev$)
220 IF d<0:CLOSE#3:DELETE 'ram2_rdonly_txt' :DATA_USE
datad_temp$:STOP:END IF

230 f=FOP_NEW(fichier$):
240  PRINT#3,240,' f=fop_new(fichier$) = ',f
250  PRINT#3,250,'dmedium_rdonly(\dev$) = ';
DMEDIUM_RDONLY(\dev$),'rdonly' ,' 0= Read/Write 1=Read Only'
260  PRINT#3,260,'dmedium_type(\dev$) = ', DMEDIUM_TYPE(\dev$),'type'
,'0= Ram disk : 1= floppy drive :2= hard disk :3=CDrom drive'

270  PRINT#3,270,'dmedium_name$(\dev$) = ', DMEDIUM_NAME$(\dev$) ,'name'
280   CLOSE#3
290 DATA_USE datad_temp$  :PAUSE

Thanks for your reply..

Have a fine day.

SuQcess2 is now version 2.07.
Not many new features but lots of internal improvements.
The Sort Key can be set from the DATA menu.
Bug in locating the edited and sorted record from View is fixed.
Better detection of Read-Only media.
Updated ReadMe and Help files.

QCoCo is now version 1.63.
Supports the new binary _thb files next to the ascii _thm theme files.
APPLY needs a Confirm or Undo action.
RESET can reset the current theme or to the startup theme.
A new Theme Viewer (by PJW) is included showing the colours and hex
numbers.
Incomplete themes should not crash the program and are automatically
completed through the SYNCHRO option.

Invalid, referenced and 3D items are marked when Viewing the colours.
Can be started with a theme as CMD$ which overrides the config item.
Updated ReadMe file.

Hi Derek,

What do you mean with 'PWFILE looks to of been a commerical Prowess

Dates on my floppies (pwfile, pwsearch, pwlist,...) are between 1995 and

My original question was not about Muliview or Viewer but about PWfile

months in total, so I did not notice that there were no news ...

I had the chance to speak to Stuart Honeyball on the phone a few days
before he died, thanks to his wife Karin, which has been a very sad
call. What a great person he was! I hope I will find the time to go
through my memories and write something ...

EU-GDRP compliance ... made me stop all my QL activies and shutting
down all the websites.
I will display a "thank you for the great times we had" until 24th of
May, then delete everything completely.
The rules and information requiries forced by the EU are just too
silly and the fines are too high.
Even websites which show information only require detailed data
protection rules.

I have already spoken to Marcel ... I will forward him sources and
manuals when I find the time.

We have had bad news here either, the most recent being that last week
my wife's father died suddenly and her mother cannot stay at home
alone, actually cannot be left alone. I do not want to go into detail,
but we're looking forward to many many problems.

Anyway, I just wanted to report that my software will not be lost ...
but I definitely need time to sort things.

Thanks for your reply.

I'm using v8.4

The listing above listing proves that we can't trust 'read_string$'.

I have noticed that there are in fact 2 limits:

1 ) answer$=read_string$(" edit ",suggestion$,request$,length,xpos,ypos)
: suggestion$ seems to be safe up to 100 characters.

(system locks at 150). So, the limit is somewhere between 100 and 150.

2) read_string$(.) returns out of range if the window is too small
to display the string.

Conclusion , at least for me, avoid  read_string$.

[Ql-Users] Theme file format

2017-11-13 Thread François Van Emelen via Ql-Users

Hi,

Theme file format
I had a look at Theme file format on QL forum.
Some comments and questions:

Rethorical question: Is it worthwhile to create a new format to save
some space (a few bytes, I suppose) when we have (QPC2, SMSQmulator)
128MB at our disposal?

Not all palette files have 57 entries.
In fact, a complete palette should have 58 entries. The original author
forgot to reserve a slot for the border of the error window.

Doesn’t a new format imply a rewrite of existing programs?
Will Qspread, QD, Files,... comply?
Afraid of having 57 entries filled with wrong data? Why not create a new
type of file? I would suggest type 84 (T for theme).

Just my two cents.

Have a nice day.

Thanks Giorgio. It looks gorgeous and it seems that a huge amount of work
has gone into integrating everything.

I also had a look at your site for the first time, which seems to have lots
of interesting content on it too.

I also noticed that my Qbase is in your download section :) Since it
appears likely that it actually has some users, is there anything that
needs fixing or adding? I'd be happy to do a new version if you are
interested.

Hi Giorgio,

I have installed BP 1.43 and noticed this:

1) select files

2) select folder DOCS

3) select the only file in it 'contact_txt'

4) execute it

5) view file

Instead of displaying the file, BP resets.

Can you confirm this?

Have a fine day,

François

Hi everyone, I have a doubt about the EASYPTR4 Application windows
I put an array in an Application Window Menu, then I defined that the first
letters of each element are underlined and usable as shortkey.
Shortcuts can only be used if the pointer is located above the application
windows.
If the pointer is somewhere else, these short keys can not be used. Is it
a feature or a bug?
In either case, how can I do this to use these shortkeys regardless of the
position of the pointer?

thanks in advance

Hi Giorgio,

It is a feature not a bug.

Shortkeys should be 'linked' to a 'Loose object' that allows them to be
useable/available all the time execpt when in 'editing mode'.

If you want to choose something with a press on a key, you should use
dropdown menus or use Jochen's menu extension.

That is how I do it.

Re: [Ql-Users] TURBO and testing it exists

2017-08-17 Thread François Van Emelen via Ql-Users

In that sense, the easiest way is to load the smallest keyword
checking extension and just accept the chicken and egg scenario and
that there is a risk that you may multiply-load that one small extension.

One such extension is Phil Borman's EXISTS (on Toolkits page on my
site). Be aware that if it is to be used on more than your own system
on pre-JS ROMs you can't use the extension in the same BASIC boot
program that loads it, so you'd have to use the first BOOT program to
install the EXISTS extension, then LRUN a second boot program to
actually use it on version AH or JM ROMs.

Another way of doing this which may be good enough for most purposes
is to assume that all your systems contain Toolkit 2 or a subset of,
which contains the EXTRAS keyword (most will apart from 128k MDV-only
systems). This method was suggested to me a long time ago by John
Gilpin - send a list of EXTRAS to a file somewhere and read that file
back to check for a keyword. A bit fiddly and prone to go wrong when
you have toolkits with duplicate keyword names I suppose. Then you
could write a little function like this (not tested, just quickly
wrote it as I type):

DEF FN CHECK_FOR(keyword$)
 LOCAL found%,t$
 found% = 0 : REM assume not found
OPEN_NEW #3,ram1_test : REM choose your own filename
 EXTRAS #3 : CLOSE #3
 OPEN_IN #3,ram1_test
 REPeat read_back
   IF EOF(#3) : EXIT read_back
   INPUT #3,t$
   IF t$ == keyword$ THEN
 found% = 1 EXIT read_back : REM keyword name matched
   END IF
 END REPeat read_back
CLOSE #3 : DELETE ram1_test : REM remove the evidence
 RETurn found%
END DEF CHECK_FOR

Then if this function is appended to your boot program, use a line
like IF CHECK_FOR("TK_VER$") = 1 THEN PRINT"Turbo Toolkit loaded" (or
a known keyword from another toolkit of course)

Not the full answer you were hoping for but one which can cope with
most situations apart from unexpanded BBQL.

Lee,

there are a number of toolkits that allow you to check for specific
other toolkit commands loaded or not - But this is a bit useless as it
leaves you with a chicken-and-egg problem: How to check whether the
checking toolkit is loaded?

Your best bet on SMSQ/E would be a WHEN ERRor clause you place just in
front of a Toolkit command you are about to execute:

1000 TurboTkLoaded = 1
1010 WHEN ERRor
1020    TurboTkLoaded = 0
1030 END WHEN
1040 REMark Execute a Toolkit command
1050 MANIFEST : x = 100
1055 REMark de-activate error checker
1060 WHEN ERRor
1070 END WHEN
1080 PRINT "Turbo Toolkit loaded:"!TurboTkLoaded

On a QL with non-working WHEN ERRor commands (pre-MG) you are a bit
doomed, the only thing I could probably come up with is writing a
BASIC program that PEEKs the name list, which is not quite so simple.

I originally posted this on the forum:

Hi community, I have searched for this on the forum but cannot find an
entry but I am sure this has been asked before.

I currently test for the presence of the HBA ROM in a boot program using
VER$ and would like to test for other toolkits, specifically the TURBO
toolkit. Is there a way to do this automatically in a boot so that when
subsequent runs of the boot it is not loaded again in one session?

e.g. for the HBA version I use:

Code: Select all
IF VER$<>"HBA" THEN
  LRESPR "WIN8_SMSQ_QEM"
END IF

I feel there must be a way to test for TURBO toolkit, any ideas?

A reply from Derek suggested  the following:

There is a keyword: TK_VER$, but only returns the version of Turbo
Toolkit,

which is the same for the SMS and QDOS versions.

A simple way would be to add "SMS" in the version number. Which would
mean

a new version of Turbo Toolkit.

The SMS version calls the SMSQ/E extended traps, where the QDOS does
not,

so maybe a test for SMSQ/E extended traps is the way, but I would favour
the about alteration to TK_VER$.

George Gwilt used to maintain Turbo and maybe the Toolkit. I think this
message needs to be posted in the QL-USERS mailing list, George Gwilt
reads

that list.

Any views at all?

Dilwyn's CHECK_FOR(keyword$) is of course only reliable as interpreted

Hi Wolfgang,

I do not have the keyword WAIT in my SMSQ/E v3.31, is that like
PAUSE ???

Hi,

There seems to be 2 differences between PAUSE and WAIT.

PAUSE needs channel #0, WAIT doesn't.

PAUSE can be interrupted with a keypress, WAIT can't.
