Maybe.

If ALL you have is a list of email addresses, I'd tend to think that
this information by itself is not something with which a person can be
identified.

I certainly didn't give any other information than than hen suscribing
- after all, all it took was to send an email to the list maintainer.

I'm not aware of an online archive. Is that maintained by the owner of
the list?

I am fairly sure that if an IP address is enough for the legislation
(bearing in mind that they rotate and not many people have fixed IP
addresses), an email address is sufficient to identify a person's online
identity...

The archive is automatically stored by the list software and (at least

You can unsubscribe (but the list might not store the date and time of
unsubsribing) through:

the rights and freedoms of data subjects, the processing is not
occasional, or the processing includes special categories of data as
referred to in Article 9(1) or personal data relating to criminal
convictions and offences referred to in Article 10."

I think this makes the mailing list excempt from the need to keep
detailed records. Under the presumption that less than 250 people
manage the mailing list, of course.

This only applies to the need for a data controller and processor, not
the general duties under the GDPR.

Ah yes - so it appears:
https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/guide-to-the-general-data-protection-regulation-gdpr/documentation/who-needs-to-document-their-processing-activities/

However,

"This Regulation applies to the processing of personal data wholly or
partly by automated means and to the processing other than by
automated means of personal data which form part of a filing system or
are intended to form part of a filing system." (art 2)

and

'‘personal data’ means any information relating to an identified or
identifiable natural person (‘data subject’); an identifiable natural
person is one who can be identified, directly or indirectly, in
particular by reference to an identifier such as a name, an
identification number, location data, an online identifier or to one
or more factors specific to the physical, physiological, genetic,
mental, economic, cultural or social identity of that natural person;'
(art 4-1)

and

'processing’ means any operation or set of operations which is
performed on personal data or on sets of personal data, whether or not
by automated means, such as collection, recording, organisation,
structuring, storage, adaptation or alteration, retrieval,
consultation, use, disclosure by transmission, dissemination or
otherwise making available, alignment or combination, restriction,
erasure or destruction; (art 4-2)

Whether an email list, where it may be argued that no processing of
personal data is done, falls under that scope is, at least,
debatable...

Charlie Ingley has now listed a batch of his vDriveQL units on
sellmyretro :

https://www.sellmyretro.com/offer/details/vdrive-ql-28715

He has not yet listed the vMap.

For those who have not come across this - the vDriveQL connects to the
QL microdrive expansion slot (and can be mounted in a ZX Microdrive case
if you like) and allows you to allocate microdrive image files to the QL
microdrive slots.

The vMap is an extra board which plugs into the microdrive connectors on
the QL motherboard and allows you to move the slots allocated to the
internal microdrive units, so it is then easy to (say) run a copy
protected game from a microdrive image file on an SD card mounted in the
external vDrive.

has less demanding requirements and can run on lower specification QL

Also available is the modified runtimes, patched for the problem where
the ERNUM and ERLIN error returns can be reversed in the standard
compiler runtimes if you use the RNUM and ERLIN functions in your

Additionally, an enhanced patch program for the compiler, allowing the
heap area to be made larger than the 512K limit of the original
software.

The QLOAD and QREF utilities are also available. QLOAD/QSAVE provide
tokenised fast load and save programs for SuperBASIC (not needed in
SBASIC as it has its own version of the QLOAD and QSAVE extensions).
QREF is a BASIC programming utility for SuperBASIC and SMSQ/E,
allowing you to list variables, procedures, functions etc, plus a
QFIND utility to locate a name within a program. A patch program is
supplied to patch the standard QREF to work with the new binary and
hexadecimal format constants in SBASIC (values preceded by % or $). A
manual for this utility will follow when I've had time to OCR it).

Finally, RPM is a Resident Program Manager, for creating resident
files from extensions, SuperBASIC programs, QLiberator object and
other executable programs, and some data files. A manual for this will
also follow once I've had time to OCR it.

We are very grateful to Ian Stewart and Adrian Soundy of Liberation

2017-05-07 Thread RWAP Software

This is what I have been trying to get people to understand...

We are too reliant on sites run and maintained by one individual - a
long term approach is required to ensure that domain names, hosting and
maintenance are retained in the long term without expecting a single
over-worked individual (who may have family or health issues for
example) to drop everything and get sites up and running, tackle
spammers and other website attacks etc...

There has been some interest in people creating mirrors of sites, but in
my opinion this is not the long term solution we require.

If you need an example of how things can go dramatically wrong, you just
have to look at the mess surrounding the ZX Vega+ and Retro Computers
Limited (RCL), where they have domain names (and Indiegogo campaigns)
owned by former directors, websites hosted by other individuals and then
when the directors have left and fallen out with the remaining
management everything gets left in abeyance resulting in two of their
web-domains now owned by people who are attacking the Company.

PRINT_USING '# @- #', 1, 2

It SHOULD output

1 - 2

Instead it outputs

1 @2

If I am reading my own notes correctly in the SBASIC / SuperBASIC
Reference Manual you are using the @ symbol instead of the (c)
symbol

Hi Jan,

That is great - it is a nice function which can be useful.

Could I ask you to consider moving (or Forking?) the repository to the
new SInclair QL Github, as this is intended to keep all of the QL stuff
together -

I've updated the code with various improvements and fixes:

- Redirection by DEV device is now handled correctly (so long as you
don't

rename the DEV device itself ;))
- SMSQ is no longer required; it will now also work on native QL with
TK2

and Minerva fitted.
- NOTE: On non-V2 drivers which don't support subdirectories, ls will
fail

because the FNAME$ function stops with 'bad parameter' on directory
channels. This can be avoided by adjusting line 1710 in the code (as
indicated in the REMarks). I'll probably have to design another machine
code call to find out whether a device is V2 or not :(

Thanks, I can vaguely remember it (it might as well be in my BBS

Pity it has no source code but indeed a nice thing to learn using

Tetroid (on SellMyRetro) is working on a new QL interface which merges
the Trump Card and QubIDE interfaces and ideally it would be good to
include the Level 2 device drivers and ATR device for the Trump Card
element.

Alternatively, is there another way of adding Level 2 device drivers?

Whilst on this subject - does anyone have any contact details for Phil
Borman - there are a few things it would be nice to include in the
QubIDE driver. There is also the problem, that whilst the source code
for the QubIDE v2 ROM was released, the v2 GAL code required to use that
ROM code does not appear to be available anywhere!

Evening Marcel,

When I have time, unless anyone else does it first, I'll see if I can
add in your other QPC commands and maybe the ones from Smsqemulator as
recently updated by Wolfgang.

Lunch hours are few and far between right now a I have a huge
migration of an Oracle system from Solaris to "the cloud" as my raisin
d'etre (!) At the moment.

I suppose I better do a "how to" just on the off chance that anyone is
interested in updating the manual!

And I had noticed your links on QLForum too! I was glad to see good
use being made of my hard work, but obviously huge thanks must be
directed at Rich for the original work. I'm merely taking the glory
for the work of others!

The SBASIC/SuperBASIC Reference Manual was of course a huge project -
whilst there were originally 3 of us involved in writing it (myself,
Franz Hermann and Peter Jaeger), I took on the mantel before its
original publication, and it was then published in 2 large A4 ring
binders, over 1500 pages in total; but released in that format to make
it possible to issue updates.

We released 4 updates to the original over the years, and then it was
converted to PDF and sold on CD-ROM, but I ran out of time and resources
to do any more updates to the manual, so there are probably a lot of
commands and information which could still be added (for example,
changes to SMSQ/e since about 2010).

The conversion to HTML format as a community project which could be
easily updated by all then made the next sensible step, but with the
manual written in Text87 format, this required a lot of re-formatting,
which has now been done to a very high standard, thanks to tools
originally written by myself and (Geoff Wicks I seem to recall), and
then improved on by Norman to whom I am very much grateful.

Now is the time for everyone else to start updating and contributing to
the manual to keep it current and ensure that it remains the must have
reference to SuperBASIC programming knowledge.

Re: [Ql-Users] Why so slow?

2016-08-05 Thread RWAP Software

It could depend on a couple of things I should imagine:

a) Whether the win file is fragmented on your PC's hard disk
b) Whether the win file is full so each write it has to be extended
first to make room
c) The size of your swap file on the PC and how that is being used
(again that may be fragmented)

2) to DOS1_ less than 20 sec.

3) to WIN2_ more than 25 MINUTES

Why such a huge difference?
