Thanks to all who replied.
My problem was, I'm doing the lunch hour work on the new QStripper and I have
to strip out those characters which require translating for HTML - the pound
sign, for example, is translated to '&' and so on. I was at work, and I
have bno QDOS docs here with me :o(

No, I don't think this is it - that's (supposed to be) the internet "at" sign.
AFAIK, there is no registered sign in the QL
