[ql-users] Serial setting of Q40

2005-03-07 Thread Jérôme Grimbert
Hello everyone,
Yesterday, I tried smsq/e 3.09 on my Q40 (which was just laying there
since... oh, so much things to do, so little time...)
A (long) time ago, I did play with the daughter card of the Q40...
during this manipulation, I might very well have removed the serial
lines (well, at least, the HDD and FLP port still works fine), as well
as changed IRQ/... .

So, does any one have a complete description of the recommended setting
for the jumpers (all of them, there is quite a few) on that card, for
Q40 SMSQ/E ?
(aka: if any Q40 owner has it opened and could just have a look at its
interface card ?
I'm missing my mouse (BTW, the mouse should be on PC/AT position, not MS
one, right ?)

Thanks in advance for your help.

Interestingly enough the saving code is prepared to handle scaling,
the loading code however is not. Looks like development stopped in
"mid-feature". Same is true for the ability to handle multiple
layouts.

Can you provide any example for a scaling menu? Even one that causes a
crash?

Should work in the next release. The new sprite format is awfully
powerful but also awfully complicated to parse. I hope it will work in
all cases.

This sounds a bit complicated, especially as all the application menu
stuff has always been somewhat of a mystery to me ;-)

Actually EasyMenu has code to cater for this case, but it couldn't
handle my change for the default arrow system sprite. Will work in
next release.

Is this all? Nobody else any problems? I won't promise anything, but
if I don't know what's wrong I certainly cannot change it.

I have tried to extend EasySource to handle the new sprite format and
have failed. I do suggest to link menus in as _rel files instead of
inserting their disassembly into the code.

Both statements are correct. There is no standard inbuilt way to do
it, so you have to use info windows to "paint" the new colours. While
you can alter the colours of menus with the techniques described in
your excellent article, it's an uncomfortable method and the only
practical way with standard Easyptr. I find it awful (and it might be
the graphics chips on this PC, because the effect is nowhere near as
bad on my Aurora) to see a menu drawn in one colour then a frame or
two later the colours change. I guess if one PC will do this, others
might find it uncomfortable too.
Dilwyn, do you get the same visible colour change when you run my GD2
programs? They are written in standard EasyPtr and then recoloured. This
might help with diagnosing what is wrong and whether it is a PC problem or
not,

Best wishes,
Geoff
