[ql-users] Quanta AGM

2005-03-28 Thread Tarquin Mills
Questions.
1. What would Geoff Wicks do differently as leader?
2. Why should I approve Special Resolution 2 when they can have
   enough members by co-opting?
3. Why should I approve SP1 when it stops the top posts changing
democratically (new clause 5.3), and the burn out has already happened?
Imagine if the Magazine Editor post had been done this way.
4. Is anyone other than The Chairman of the meeting offering to
   do proxy voting for me?

[ql-users] QL shows information

2005-03-28 Thread gwicks
We have now posted a website for the After-Glow Show at Eindhoven on 18th
June:

http://members.lycos.co.uk/geoffwicks/afterglow.htm
It will look slightly familiar as it is a cut down and revised version of
the QL2004 webpage.

We are not planning the same detailed program of events as at QL2004,
because the main purpose is to get as many of the QL developers together as
possible. However there are a number of items that are worthy of discussion
and I would like some volunteers:

1: We should be able to set up an internet connection again. Is there
someone who could demonstrate the new internet possibilities in QPC2?
Demonstration of Lynx for example.

2: A demonstration of QPCprint and help for any user who may have problems
in installing or using.

3: Latest experience in running QDT.
4: My ears are close to the ground and I hear the drums saying there could
soon be some good news for EasyPtr users. Anyone interested in giving a
tutorial on resizing?

QL is 21 PORTSMOUTH:
This will be held on 29th - 30th October at the Ibis hotel. This is just a
reminder that I shall have an informal meeting at Hove to discuss what
people would like to see in the activity programme. It will be open to both
members and non-members of Quanta.

Unfortunately the 300 words I wrote about this for the Quanta Magazine were
not published - black mark to Quanta - so could you please tell people who
don't subscribe to this list about this.

I hope to have a QL is 21 website online just after the Quanta AGM,
Best wishes,
Geoff

2005-03-28 Thread Bill Waugh
Hi
A couple of queries that some of you might can help out with
1. (I'm sure this has come up before) when running QPC when the cursor moves
over a basic window a letter A attaches itself to the cursor? system is
Sempron running windows XP.

2. I have tried three times to install QDT, it keeps logging no hotkey
available when there is indeed plenty left unused, and in #0 window no
signal extension.
Exec ing QDT direct does not bring up any Icon and nothing appears in Jobs

Can QDT exist alongside QPAC2, surely it must if it should have a hot_key.
I have minimised my boot file to eliminate any problems but still no luck
Any clues or should I do a Dillwyn ( maybe I've done a Dillwyn - yikes)
all the best - Bill

The A letter is my doing :-) It is the old letter K icon (waiting for
Input). If you switch over to QL Colours the K will reappear!

I think it needs HOT_GO.
For signal extension you need to lrespr sigext30_rext (Available from
URL: http://www.daria.co.uk/)

Yes it can exists alongside QPAC2

Did you let QDT make a boot file... you may have instructed it to save the
required bootfile with another file name. try to use that one instead :-)

no it modifies the existing boot file
I have just reduces the boot file to absolute min and noticed the hot_go do
not work so have included a pause 100 and will try again.

Bill,
Please forward me the following items by separate email and I will try
to figure out what is wrong with your install and running of QDT.
Also, please feel free to contact me through the following email on any
QDT related questions. Part of your QDT documentation gives you
information on getting 'quick' support.

1. send me a copy of:
  - if QDT installed properly:
from win1_QDT_, there should be an install_log or similar type file
else if QDT did not install properly
from win1_QDTINST_, the same install log or similar file
2. your boot file
  - original one that was backed up
  - boot file after QDT installed
3. your QDT_log file after you ran QDT (in win1_QDT_)
4. the DESKTOP_QDT file in win1_QDT_
Is your boot file a single file or does it call other basic boot files
conditionally during boot?

I have many messages that are included in these and should be able to
determine the issue if you can pass these files to me to review.

Hi James
It's installed, I used the manual install, I think it may have been that I
have extentions in a seperate directory (Resex_) and also I think HOT_GO may
have been skipped/missed/not implimented I recall some instructions in the
past to PAUSE 100 before the HOTKEY commands.
Still have the the no Hotkey available to sort out, I'll give it one via
the boot file and see if it works.

Why do I need the signal extentions I do recall having these in the past
but can't remeber what they are for

First fleeting impression - wow looks promising -- very, I've been a QL
poser for some time now, you know fiddling a little now and then but not
doing anything useful, finally got around to upgade QPC and a few other
programes and obviously I'm a bit rusty but looks like I'm hooked again.

If any problems occur I'll comply with your instructions
All the best - Bill

The problem with the hotkey setup has been reported by another user and
I did encounter it during the beta testing phase. Jim will look into it.
I find I cannot set a hotkey here either so I suspect that when we
originally found the problem we had more urgent problems to solve and
just forgot to go back to this one.

[ql-users] QPC on a Stick

2005-03-28 Thread Ken Bain
I thought it might be nice to have a QPC setup on a USB flashdrive. Here's
what I did
1 plugged in the flashdrive (16M Smartmedia in a reader/writer)
2 formatted it
3 copied the QPC folder (default: c:\windows\program files\QPC2 ) and
contents onto the flashdrive
4 copied the win file (default: c:\Qxl.win ) into the QPC2 folder on the
flashdrive
5 opened this folder, run QPC2.EXE to show the configuration dialogue
6 opened 'devices' and set win1 to .\win1 ie dot backslash filename
7 Saved it, and create a shortcut to QPC2 .exe outside the folder, for
neatness.

dot backslash is dosspeak for ' look in the current directory'. It isn't
listed in any of the dos manuals I've got, although dot dot backslash is.
('look in parent directory' ) Anyway it works and means you can plug the
drive in to any suitable windows PC and need not tell qpc the absolute
address for each PC.

This flashdrive setup has worked in XP pro, Win2000pro, Win98.
Astonish your friends. Impress gullible women. Go forth and multitask!

SNIP

Very similar to my own experiences. Glad to find out that I'm not the only
QPC-on-a-stick out here :o)

I think I wrote my experiences up in QL Toaday some time back, but it's always
nice to have a reminder from time to time. It works for me very well indeed.
Now, if only there was QPC for Linux . (Sorry Marcel)

This flashdrive setup has worked in XP pro, Win2000pro, Win98.

I can confirm the above, but I think Windows 95 will work as well, if you
install the correct driver to make it able to work the USB port/stick drive.
NT3.5 and 4.0 will not work as it doesn't support USB devices 'naturally' -
although there might be a driver somewhere for it.

Cheers,
Norman.
