Bill,
Just thinking about your problem. Are you installing the release
version or one of the demo versions? If a demo version, which one? If
About doesn't tell you from the QDT icon, that will tell me what I need
to know.

Thanks,

I thought that we had tackled this before. Tied up this week but will
try to find time over the weekend to dig further.

The problem with the hotkey setup has been reported by another user

when we originally found the problem we had more urgent problems to
solve and just forgot to go back to this one.

About 20 mins after sending this I realised that dot backslash is probably
not necessary, as dos looks in the current diectory by default if no path
is given. So I tried removing it, and it still works. The crucial bit is
to put the win file in the same folder as qpc2.exe, so dos can do its
default duty.
I have found it necessary in the past to use dot backslash, and have been
trying to remember when. I think it was when 'adjusting' some HTML - some
web page software creates its own default subdirectories.
Apologies to Norman Dunbar - I missed his article in QL Today.

I thought it might be nice to have a QPC setup on a USB flashdrive. Here's
what I did
1 plugged in the flashdrive (16M Smartmedia in a reader/writer)
2 formatted it
3 copied the QPC folder (default: c:\windows\program files\QPC2 ) and
contents onto the flashdrive
4 copied the win file (default: c:\Qxl.win ) into the QPC2 folder on the
flashdrive
5 opened this folder, run QPC2.EXE to show the configuration dialogue
6 opened 'devices' and set win1 to .\win1 ie dot backslash filename
7 Saved it, and create a shortcut to QPC2 .exe outside the folder, for
neatness.

dot backslash is dosspeak for ' look in the current directory'. It isn't
listed in any of the dos manuals I've got, although dot dot backslash is.
('look in parent directory' ) Anyway it works and means you can plug the
drive in to any suitable windows PC and need not tell qpc the absolute
address for each PC.

This flashdrive setup has worked in XP pro, Win2000pro, Win98.

Bit of a mix up there I think...I thought I was replying to Ken Bain and the
./win1_ tip...Now I'm confused. Err, who said what? (Blame it on my webmail
program where line lengths and quoting etc tend to get a bit difficult for my
little brain to cope with)

In terms of using these little USB memory sticks, I wrote a short review of a
cheap 64MB Mobile Disk one from EBuyer for Quanta too, but it it didn't get
published (or not published so far anyway).

John, is there a mechanism for people to request a copy of the current
constitution if they want it?

I'm up to date I think, there may be some who've either mislaid their copy or
not sure if they have an up to date copy. To who should they apply if they wish
to receive a current copy? (At work, not sure if it says in newsletter or not)

If you are not going to attend, can I request a proxy form soon? The final
date for receipt is Sunday.

I have received a few forms that indicate the form is not as clear as it could
be. This is where individuals have voted for BOTH John and Geoff as Chairman.
While this may be a novel solution, it is unfortunately an OR option.

Speaking (typing) as myself and not on behalf of the committee :-
1. Ask Geoff !
4. If no one else offers, as a last resort, I am happy to act as your proxy as
long as you direct me to which way you want to vote.

I thought women preferred men to be faithfull to one, not several at a time?

'Go forth and multitask.' Could probably rewrite the Ten Commandments, Noah's
edicts and much of the Bible based on that. "The Bible according to QLer Ken

I was surprised that there had been no comment re. the special
resolutions - I think that the new clauses 5.3 - 5.6 are a very bad
idea and will be voting against the resolution.

(If I was a conspiracy theorist I might read something into the fact
that they are not mentioned in the relevant section of the Chairman's

Very similar to my own experiences. Glad to find out that I'm not the
only QPC-on-a-stick out here :o)

I think I wrote my experiences up in QL Toaday some time back, but it's
always nice to have a reminder from time to time. It works for me very

I can raise the ante :-) My QPC is on a MP3 player that shares a memory
card with a Nokia 3650 phone :-)

I can confirm the above, but I think Windows 95 will work as well, if
you install the correct driver to make it able to work the USB
port/stick drive. NT3.5 and 4.0 will not work as it doesn't support USB
devices 'naturally' - although there might be a driver somewhere for it.
Yep there is (USB for Win NT 4) and I am using it :-)
