Exactly.
And what Jeremy suggested has ALREADY happened some time ago, and
we were hoping to get some new/old QLers interested.
At the beginning QPC2 cost DM 199,- (slightly over EUR 100) ... so
where are we now?
Software prices go down, less sales to a smaller audience, travelling
prices on the other side permanently go up ...
We could bring the price down to a quarter, or eight, bundle everything
we have, and stop development, free updates, any kind of support,
visiting QL shows, just sell it out ... would you like THAT?
I think we had that too, reminds me of the last activity of DP.

In my opinion it is not a good idea to look for maybe a few potential
new customers which may be out there somewhere and forget about the
impact to anybody else.

I must confess that that had not occurred to me before. I just made it

that. I have corrected this now and future users will see it called
'QDT' courtesy of your QWIRC utility.

Ah thanks. That mollifies my ruffled sensibilities ;)

The question really was why did users of other systems have a problem
reading it as reported? Works fine on QPC2.

I also have no problem reading the QDT CD's QXL.WIN file with wxqt2 rev 1.4

It did - there was a complete lack of puns on both social evenings (8-)#
He even apologised for it at a pub!
They were much missed.

I am sure he will make up for it on the Spanish trip.

Bad example if you live in the US ;-) hehe (You can feed 4 for about
$20... mind you not a fancy restaurant but a lot of food nonetheless...
how do you think I got to be SO Huge? :-P)

Seriously though, about US$100 is not much to ask for a complete package.

Yes but why shell another $100 for Windoze?
It makes more sense to run QPC2 under WineX (as it requires DirectX or
maybe compile it with SDL or something ;-) so that compatibility is
ensured maybe even under FreeBSD/Linux?)

Regardless, the fact of the matter is that QPC2 is a great piece of
software :-)

You are trying to make me sound like Scrooge. £45 is not unaffordable,
but I wasn't talking about £45,The Euro price on Marcel's website
equates to £68, and who mentioned affordabilty?
I was taking about justifiability.

£68 is more than I am prepared to pay for a purely selfish purchase
that no other member of the family gets any benefit from, and something
that is not really needed. As I said, I am only a casual user. If I
needed it I could, of course afford it, but I don't. Any purchase would
be purely out of curiosity, and once that had been satisfied I don't
know whether I'd continue using it.

I should have realised that Marcel (another email) has indeed reduced
the price, and that it used to cost twice the current amount, but I'm
still surprised that he doesn't try to squeeze out the last bit of
revenue by offering to sell old versions at even more heavily
discounted rates.

If you look at software prices and the psychology behind purchases, it
doesn't matter what the product is, most people wouldn't think twice
about paying £20 or £30 for a piece of software, but would if it costs
£60 or £70. Witness, as an example, all the people willing to take the
risk with dodgy oem copies of windows XP on ebay.co.uk, rather than
paying the price for kosher copy.

So, all I was saying is that I think that there could be a market beyond
the one that seemingly (according to other emails) has reached
saturation, and foolishly set myself up as a skinflint by offering
myself as someone who fell into that market.

The simple answer, I think, is that the advances made in recent versions
of SMSQ/E and QPC2 make the older versions irrelevant.
If you look at software prices and the psychology behind purchases, it
doesn't matter what the product is, most people wouldn't think twice

But that is another world. One where it does not matter to people if the
software costs something, or took a lot of work or, in fact belonged to
someone in the first place. If they can steal it they will. That is not
how we operate in the QL community. We pay for our software because we
respect the amount of work that goes into producing it and, by giving
that money we encourage the authors to produce more, to develop and to
innovate. None of us have to do this - we all make a loss out of it but
we do it because we want to and because we are appreciated. When that
stops you will be left in a barren world of thieves and vagabonds.
