If the former, 32bit or 64bit kernel? Sun compiler or gcc? as a datapoint, qmail compiles cleanly on sparc 64bit kernel using workshop 5.0 compiler, but if you specify 64bit support - xarch=v9 - it won't run. needless to say, qmail compiles effortlessly with gcc.
