yes, make sure to copy the contents of /var/qmail/control/* and
/var/qmail/users/assign to the new system. also after copying
users/assign, make sure to run qmail-newu to refresh the cdb file.

what I said above should fix that

That was exactly what I already did do, except I used dump/restore instead
of tar. What I didn't know and just found out by trying, is that I had to
go and add the domains one by one in vqadmin (isn't there and easier
way?), and then all the accounts poped up and worked as they should.

Seems that I have a problem with the mail lists in qmailadmin, after the
move, I can't add new lists and existing lists look very strange in
qmailadmin when I choose "Show Subscribers", and if I click a link on that
strange page I get this error:
" Error. Domain was not found in the assign file "

it is the same problem with list stored in mysql and non-mysql lists.

any hints ?

Thanks! I forgot to mention that I already did search the archive, but
didn't find anything that looked like a useable answer.

I'll try to search on what you suggested and see if that gives a better
result.

thanks again

Install new system on other machine. Dump mysql data from machine and import
to other
machine, also move /home/vpopmail/domains to new machine. (remember to keep
permission + ower & group)

It's easy, search "backup qmail vpopmail tar" and you will find a lot of
answer.
This is a proper answer, i will not search the right email in the archive for
you, it's so easy to search it yourself.

Sometimes answers like this are really annoying.
Apparently you know where to find the answer but are not willing to give any
additional information. For 50% of the questions asked on this mailing list
the answer is out there in some way so you could get a lot of responses "sod
of the answer is somewhere". What's the big issue in pointing out where the
information is? Probably I can answer that question for you: sometimes an
archive gets so big it is difficult to find something back that has been
answered previously.

So please give a proper answer if you are really interested in helping
people.

Regards,
Ron

P.S Sorry if I sound angry that's not the intention

[qmailadmin] moving qmail from one server to another

2003-12-03 Thread Ulrik S. Kofod
hi I'm moving my mailserver to a new box, and I installed qmail,
vpopmail+mysql, courier-imap, vqadmin, qmail adminn (and more), everything
seems to work fine, but now I have to move all domains and accounts from
the old box to the new.

Can't find any guide on the net on how to do this!
Does anyone know of such a guide/howto page?

I guess I have to do a dump of /var/qmail, but how much from the old box
should I restore on the new ? just /var/qmail/domains ? and the vpopmail
database data should be updaded with the data from the old box too, but
what else is needed ?

thanks

Ulrik
