we don't have it on the wiki yet, google for it, learn it, then add it
to the wiki. TLS is particularly tricky because you need to encode
what you send. There's a web site that'll do the encoding for you
though, and you can simply cut'n'paste it.
AUTH first (#5.5.1)

OK, that did it. It answers to port 587 but not 25. My guess is that
SBC is blocking port 25. I will change the port on my wifes system and
see what happens. I just checked, and see that my desktop is set to use
port 587.
Many thanks,

Hey thanks for all your help. I have a much better understanding of the
setup and the difference between IMAP and POP3.
Using Thunderbird for IMAP was a snap and I can now view all folders on

Got it.
I was able to set up Thunderbird as an IMAP client and it works
perfectly including the Sent and SPAM folders. Are there advantages to
one over the other?

I understand the scoring and it currently works very well. I don't plan
on modifying anything. I just want to know how it works. It is
currently correct 98% of the time and that's pretty good IMHO.

I think just the clarification that it goes /dev/null whether it's
checked or not. The pertinent information for me is it's not going to
make it to the POP3 client regardless if it's ticked or not.

You need to check the tick if you want the mail filtered. If you do not

there will be a SPAM folder created in your squirrelmail interface(once
SPAM is found) that houses the SPAM that is filtered out. It cannot be

Eric,
OK, that's exactly how I do it on all counts. I was just wondering if

I guess the real question is does Thunderbird have a cache for passwords
