In Thunderbird 3, Encrypted password is enabled for IMAP and SMTP by default.
Try to disable both. I highly recommend to use IMAP-SSL and SMTP-TLS instead.

Not Active Directory, no. You would need to recompile (and possibly
patch) vpopmail for that.

I am trying to setup courierpassd 1.1.2 with qmailtoaster. Is anyone
using it right now? If so can you post your run file? Here is some of my
server info:
courierpassd run file:

I found more information in the logs when I restart the xinetd service:

(errno = 98)). service = courierpassd

Strange part is

You want to run courierpassd under daemontools so it does not stop when
restarting xinetd.
Disable it under xinetd and control the service with svc- command.
