All,

SMTP-AUTH is working now, although I'm getting errors in a different
part of the sending process. The authentication process IS properly
working at this time (although, I don't understand what I might have
done to fix the problem).

I had to reinstall the following, because the server simply stopped
sending any mail whatsoever without them.

> spamassassin-toaster-3.1.7-1.3.6 simscan-toaster-1.2-1.3.2
> ripmime-toaster-1.4.0.6-1.3.2 clamav-toaster-0.88.5-1.3.5.

I think that the issue which caused a slow SMTP connection response was,
indeed tied to slow DNS. I adjusted the order of the DNS servers in my
/etc/resolv.conf file, and the response now happens nearly instantly.

Sincerely,

Good. You've narrowed it down somewhat. Is smtp-auth working now or not?

Unfortunately, you can't very well try adding them back one at a time,
since
simscan controls the rest of them.

This makes no sense to me, as the packages you've uninstalled don't come
into play until after the data's received.
