Please, please continue supporting Opera. Opera is huge here in Russia.
About 36% share on the desktop, and 43% in Ukraine.

Ok, you were faster than my reply with the correction. I hope you got me right
:)

Just checked the bug reports and you are right, we have fixed 15 bugs in opera
in the last 4 month.

http://bugzilla.qooxdoo.org/buglist.cgi?chfieldto=Now&query_format=advanced&rep_platform=Opera&rep_platform=Opera%209&rep_platform=Opera%209.5&rep_platform=Opera%209.6&rep_platform=Opera%2010&rep_platform=Opera%2010.50&rep_platform=Opera%2010.60&chfieldfrom=2010-08-01&bug_status=RESOLVED&bug_status=VERIFIED&bug_status=CLOSED

Looking into the bugs most of them were minor bug fixes, plus some fixes for
demos and tests. Seems like normal maintenance work to me.

Looking forward for the community opinion on this discussion.

Best regards,
Tino

Hi Derrell,

Currently we have only 13 open Bugs for Opera (4 of them are reminder bugs):

http://bugzilla.qooxdoo.org/buglist.cgi?query_format=advanced&rep_platform=Opera&rep_platform=Opera%209&rep_platform=Opera%209.5&rep_platform=Opera%209.6&rep_platform=Opera%2010&rep_platform=Opera%2010.50&rep_platform=Opera%2010.60&bug_status=NEW&bug_status=ASSIGNED&bug_status=REOPENED

Most time we get the bug reports directly by mail or internal, that's why there
are so much opened bugs by the core members.

Our efforts to support Opera have several reasons:

1. qooxdoo is supposed to be a cross browser framework - that is why we will
always try to support all major browser. "Unfortunately" a lot of companies,
that earn money with qooxdoo based products, see Opera as one of them (2.4% of
25 million costumers is still a lot).
2. Opera is (exclusive) present on many devices (Wii, Nintendo DSi, mobile
devices)
3. Opera is getting better and better. The speed of the JavaScript engine is
always increasing. In my opinion a great browser, worse supporting.

Nevertheless, be assured that we only spent so much time for Opera as it is
worse it.

Ok. Since I look (or at least glance) at every bug report, every commit, and
every message to the developer mailing list, I tend to get the big picture of
what's going on with the project. It "seems" like an inordinate or
inappropriate amount of time has been spent recently on Opera, so I thought it
worth bringing up for consideration. It sounds like you do have some reason for
supporting it. I'm not sure I'd agree with your justification since (100 -
2.4)% of 25 million customers is a much larger number than that 2.4% of 25
million, and therefore worthy of a much greater amount of devoted time, but I
guess you're thinking about that and managing the time spent on it.

Happy new year!

Happy New Year to you and the rest of the core team!

Derrell

I've noticed a significant effort being spent on handling support for Opera.
Furthermore, looking at the last 50 or so new bugs pertaining to Opera, they
were almost all reported by members of the core team, not be people out in the
field demanding use of Opera. As can be seen here
(http://marketshare.hitslink.com/browser-market-share.aspx?qprid=2#) Opera10
holds less than 2% of the browser market share, and that share is remaining
fairly constant, not growing
(http://marketshare.hitslink.com/report.aspx?qprid=3&qpcustom=Opera+10.x)

Is there some reason that significant time should be spent ensuring that this
rather little-used browser is supported by qooxdoo? It would seem that the time
would be much better spent working on bug fixes and enhancements that would
provide more benefit for more people...???

Thanks,

[qooxdoo-devel] Opera Support

2006-05-03 Thread bitter lemon
Hi!

I've a question about qooxdoo supporting Opera. When I try the various
test-pages, quite a few are not working in Opera.
In another thread I found the following statement:
"The current Renderer build doesn't seem to like Opera (either that or the way
I've got Qooxdoo set up on our development machines is off)"

Is this already the answer to my question or are there some parts which will
definitely not work with opera?
If everything will be supported, when will the test-pages be fixed (especially
the debug-console ;)?

Thank you very much for you support

Best regards
phil
