I started using when they came back from backorder. I ordered them
and waited forever for them. I only ordered 2 pks of 10 because I wasn't
sure if they would do any better for me than the average but they did
great. When I went to order more again no one had them unless I got them
from concepts and my God they charge more than allegro and express med.
Both places sell them for 40 something bucks per 100. I lucked out when I
was down to my last few they had them again so I went ahead and did it.
I'll try not to let that happen again. They are a time saver
therefore with my school schedule and the time I have to get up in the morning,
a lifesaver.

I guess I'm REALLY lucky. Nothing bothers my bowels. I
can eat very little in 4 days and STILL go well. Or eat alot of
salad, shredded wheat, etc and go normally.

I can drink 4 glasses of prune juice and have no problems.
But as soon as I say all this ... I'm jinxed. LOL

Using those Enemeez and Rugby suppositories though, REALLY messed
up my system. I wouldn't go after using one but would go

horrid. Poor hubby.

Thank God the bullets are back and I go in 30 minutes on

Your not the only one that has bowel problems from eating certain
foods Stacey. For the longest time I could never figure out why
all of a sudden I will have bowel problems in bed. My wife figured
out just a few weeks ago that if I have hot spicy Chinese food I will
have diarrhea within 24-36 hours. We did an experiment after
everything, down and sure enough I ended up going into bed after having
spicy Chinese food. Everything has been going real well until a
couple days ago when I had a really hot spicy barbecue sauce on my beef
ribs. I never gave any thought to what I was eating until my wife
made a comment about me messing the bed in a day or so. Well, sure
enough it happened. Now, I'm not going to eat my spicy food to see
if that is really the problem.

Jim,I am interested in to know how you are able to use two leg bags at the same time. The primary reason I do not use these type of bags is because they do not have enough volume capacity. Additionally, I used to lie back too much and my urine wasn't flowing downhill enough. This is one I used to have chronic UTIs. Now I wear a bed bag on the side of the chair. This bag has been cut down so I don't have excess tubing and am able to cover it sufficiently for aesthetic purposes.Billy[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

I also wear a condom catheter and have way over 50% success. I have my catheter changed every 36 hours or when needed. I am so diligent on telling my PCA is to make sure that my catheter is untwisted and that the tubing is run straight as possible. I also make sure that when I urinate while in my wheelchair that I am kept all the way forward to make sure everything flows downhill and I also where two 1000 CC leg bags.

Hi River,

I don't think it was just by accident that this twist comes in the last five minutes of the movie. Even if Mr. Eastwood had wanted to make a movie about the 'Right to Die' issue, he should nothave had the 'Mercy Killing' right after the accident withno life experiences to help the charactermake an informed decision. Million Dollar Baby is up for several academy awards How sad and cruel for Clint Eastwood to be at it again in his disdain for people with disabilities in an attempt to seek sympathy for killers of people with disabilities... please read "Not Dead Yet's" review and view below.

"Not Dead Yet Challenges Movie Critics, Eastwood"[Thanks to the National Disabled Students Union, http://www.disabledstudents.org/, for bringing this to JFA's attention.]A Press Release from Not Dead Yet:Disability Activists Call Chicago Movie Critics: Million Dollar BigotsJanuary 19, 2005 @ 6:00 p.m., 65 W. Jackson Blvd., ChicagoChicago disability activists will be protesting the bigotry and ignorance of the members of the Chicago Film Critics Association (CFCA). Virtually every critic in the association gave a rave review to Clint Eastwood's Million Dollar Baby, a film that promotes the killing of disabled people as the solution to the problem of disability. On Wednesday, January 19th, activists will picket and distribute protest leaflets outside of the Union League Club of Chicago. Attendees at the CFCA event will be met by activists from the Chicago disability rights community,
protesting the bigotry and ignorance of Chicago movie critics. Ignorance and bigotry are the only explanations for the universal adoration expressed for a movie that is being called a corny, melodramatic assault on people with disabilities by one reviewer in the disability community.Roger Ebert, of the Chicago Sun-Times, has named it the number one movie of 2004. In fact, he seems to find new opportunities to promote the movie every couple of days. His TV partner, Richard Roeper, also gave the film an enthusiastic thumbs up.But like we said, they're not alone. Michael Wilmington of the Chicago Tribune gave it 4/4 stars. The vast majority of critics talk about the surprise ending without telling their readers and viewers what it is. It's simple: the surprise is that a young woman boxing star becomes disabled, and Eastwood's character (in a painful, self-sacrificing gesture), kills her.Its a
pro-euthanasia movie. But they don't want you to go in expecting that to be the main message. But it's the romanticized killing at the end that makes the movie for most of the critics. We feel it's no coincidence that Eastwood is also a staunch opponent of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). He's been sued - and lost - under the act in regard to a resort he owns. After his loss in the courts, he engaged in a legislative campaign to weaken the ADA, even giving testimony in Congress. His face is on the cover of a book on ADA backlash called "Make Them Go Away." This film appears to be his revenge on our community.Suppose instead Eastwood had been an active opponent of the civil rights of any minority other than people with disabilities. Suppose he'd been sued for race or gender discrimination at his resort instead of disability discrimination. And then suppose he'd made a movie manipulating the !
 audience
to sympathize with someone who killed a member of that group. We suspect the reactions of critics across the country would have been, pardon the _expression, critical. Not Dead Yet7521 Madison St.Forest Park, IL 60130Contact: Diane Coleman or Stephen Drake(708)209-1500; (708)420-0539 (cell)For more detailed analysis of the movie and its reviews, go to:http:www.raggededgemagazine.comGreg [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

I did not read this response to closely because I have not seen the movie. However, knowing Mr. Eastwood's feelings on the disabled community it does not surprise me that he would rather have a person died than be disabled. I don't recall exactly the circumstances around what happened, but he was pushing for changes in the ADA because his newly renovated hotel was not in compliance. In my opinion he is a pompous uncaring ass that does not deserve any of my money. I will only watch this movie when it comes out on a channel which I have on my television package.

Billy,

I sent my son to the auto store to find a plastic tee and a 90 degree elbow
that would be used for vacuum lines on vehicles. He could not find a 90
degree elbow so he purchased two plastic tees. I had him lay two 1000 CC
leg bags side-by-side. We took short pieces of latex tubing and connected
to the two bags together. The tee that is not connected to your catheter,
must have a short piece of latex tubing long enough to be folded over and taped
to prevent the urine from flowing out the top. You can also purchase a
plastic or rubber cap that fits over the end of the tee from the auto parts
store.I can tell whenI have to urinate so, I make sure I tilt
myself down so theurine flows downhill as much as possible.I have my
leg bags strapped to my shin down by my ankle. Here is asimple

Why would anyone assume that you had to become queer? Are you getting
messages that suggest so? I hardly think that someone chooses to become
gay, disabled or not.

[QUAD-L] chat/public trans/school

2005-01-29 Thread Stacy Harim

I don't think you all are going to see much of me in there. School
has now started back up and I have a pretty hard schedule. I don't know
how active I will be with the list either. I had transcript issues and
stuck having the earliest classes. I think it will be all I have just to
handle the classes. Mon, Wed, and Fri, I have an 8 oclock class and I
since I rely on the most unreliable public transportation, I am getting picked
up at 6:30 when the school is 40 mins away with the time it takes to tie or lock
me down in the bus.

The transit charges double for disabled who require door to
door. In the fixed rides that AB's take, the cost of the ride is 2 dollars
and an additional dollar if they need to transfer. If they live on an off
beaten path more than 3/4 of a mile they can get a ride to the bus stop for an
additional dollar. Disabled who require curb to curb service have to pay
double what AB's pay. I have curb to curb service and still pay as I live in a
rural area and hardly live in a rural area. I'm fighting hard about that
as I live a half mile from the highway. That's hardly rural. I then
have to pay for transfer points that I don't use because I ride directly.
I ride directly there and directly back. Before the tri county govt. took
over I was taking a different company for school and only paying 4 dollars no
matter what. Now I am paying6 or more each way. I tried to get
a ride for Monday but couldn't get a hold of anyone to schedule it on
Friday.

My van is tagged and ready to get the work on the modifications
however the man from voc rehab that was supposed to come go over the stuff for
the test when I was approved from the DMV is on medical leave and I now have to
wait until April to do so. That will make it over a year and a half since
I have been working with voc rehab to get my license. The sad thing is
that my license from before I got sick is still valid. How much trouble
would I get into for using that to go down the street to practice my parking or
driving around the neighborhood and practicing my 3pt turns at the dead
ends? I'm pretty damn irritated with the whole system. Does anyone
else have any problems like this with their public transportation?

[QUAD-L] RE: Queer disabled

2005-01-29 Thread REELQUICK

What is the big deal about being Gay and disabled. I've had many emails that are the same words, do you not know how to copy and paste and why not quit repeating what someone else has already said.
I'm sure there are many disabled people that may be gay but that is the lifestyle they choose.

As for this movie business, if this is how Clint Eastwood really feels..it will come back to haunt him.

My son John who had the stroke was told by his Dr that " he would rather die than live as a quad" but my son believes that would be suicide and chose to live. God gave him another chance to recover and become a Christian. Last year he became a Christian and was baptized in the local rehab's heated pool.

I think the motto should be " Better disabled than Dead".

At least you have a chance to recover and live a near normal life if you live at home with relatives.

But the medical community doesn't see it this way.

I getting ready a packet of info to send to Dr Huang in Beijing China. I have contacted them and they wont my son's latest MRI and current condition from his Dr's. Then they will see if they can help him. It is thru stem cell operation. It may not be right for some people but I have no objections to it. Anything to get him up and about again as I am getting too old to care for him and I don't want to see him put in a nursing home for 20 or 30 years.
