Tim,

I've booted an LC475 from a zip disk, so I don't see why it won't work with a 
Quadra 840. It's been "a few years" since I did it, but if I remember 
correctly, I'd only installed the  bare minimum of the OS onto the zip disk. 
The LC needed a disk utility ran on its HDD, after changing the PRAM battery, 
so I needed to be able to fit both the OS and Norton Utilities on the same zip 
disk. The LC booted just fine from the zip disk, I ran Norton Utilities, then 
it rebooted back to its own HDD just fine.
