Re: [q] Moving to Google Groups

2006-01-27 Thread Al Winfrey

Steve,

I'm willing to give the Google Groups a try. I have avoided reflectors
in the past because they seemed to attract spam but this service
appears better protected. Macs are neat and I've used them since 1986
or so but they are more fun when one can converse with others who also
appreciate them.

The second thing is that with the choice of message delivery methods,
we can now adjust the mail flow into our mail boxes and that is much
better. If one goes out of town for a few days one can turn off mail
flow or put into digest form without leaving the list. Most of the time
I prefer to read it from the web and not mess with regular email but
the choice is still there.

I signed up with Google a few minutes ago and look forward to full
activation. One thing is that I didn't mention is that I haven't
tried it with the Quadra or with one of the older SE's from my herd of
Macs. We'll see how it works with them a little later.

cheers!

I predict you will lose members by doing this move. The way it is set
up now is vastly superior to the way google groups is set up as you
can save the messages you want in your own email box and you don't
have to hut through the whole group to find something.

Fans of 680x0 Macs, we've successfully launched our first two email
lists using Google Groups - one for Macintel models and one for the
Mac

mini.

As of this afternoon, we've turned off our three Maclone lists,
which

have also transitioned to Google Groups.

Advantages: You can browse messages online, where they are threaded.
You can manage your subscription yourself. Lots more room for the
archive. And Google Groups doesn't automatically include your email
address in your postings.

Today we begin moving Compact Macs, Vintage Macs, and Quadlist to
Google Groups. Google Groups will not replace the current lists until
early next week, but I wanted to give everyone a chance to subscribe.

To join the list and set your mode (single messages, digest, etc.),
point your browser to http://groups.google.com/group/vintage-macs

When the list goes live, [EMAIL PROTECTED] will be the
posting address. I'm updating the Vintage Macs List FAQ to reflect
these changes.

I look forward to seeing most of you there next week.

2006-01-24 Thread Al Winfrey

Dick,

I didn't know what to search on and you have provided a nice pointer.
Now I can get one and put this puppy online! Also I appreciate the
swap-list pointer from Paul and will get signed up for that too.
Thanks!
