I learned from experience that it pays to check the PRAM battery. Not long ago I found a Quadra 605 that was presumed dead and deposited by the curbside. I had always wanted one but got stuck on the PC upgrade treadmill long ago. The Quadra chimed but didn't boot and the screen remained dark. I

I have a performa 475 that I have been prodding for some time. For years it was solid as a rock. Then I left it alone and couldn't start it. I finally discovered it was the battery. I got it going, reformatted the drive, put 7.6.1 on it and did all sorts of things and it was great
