I use Acer Aspire with 32GB RAM with QubesOS. But it has locked propietary bios (bios-mods can help you) Also you can attach external GPU in m2 ngff slot (remove wifi card) and passthrough it to HVM. See egpu mods. Old thinkpads (x220-230 series) can be full unblobed (coreboot/heads) but not good. John cracks ssh key 2048, for example, 16 hours in kali vm use 2 cores. Ivy/Sandy bridge too old for sometnig serious i think.
