[qubes-users] HCL - Dell Lattitude E5570

2017-02-19 Thread 'Qubes Lovitt' via qubes-users
Everything working great so far

-Windows7 HVM template & appvms fine.
-sys-usb fine and able to pass through individual USB devices
-PCI passthrough working (sound, usb, SD card reader) -- will try external
thunderbolt 3 GPU enclosure next month and report GPU passthrough results
once/if working
-Contacted smartcard working with PGP/Enigmail. Next will try contactless NFC
along with -fingerprint scanner and will report any results of where I got that
working
-TPM available but booting in UEFI mode so have not tried AEM yet

I believe this notebook should be Qubes 4.0-ready based on what I have seen.

Cheers. Attached HCL tool YML output.

Thanks for the tips.

I'm trying to start the app from the menu shortcut in the appvm. Yes, I've
restarted the appvm and templatevm after installing the software in the
template.

The /home folder looks exactly the same in both the templatevm and appvm.

When I try to start the app from the command line in the appvm, I get these
messages but Cryptomator does start

It's almost certainly the chromium - there was an existing bug on
Jessie, recently closed (12th Feb). I guess the same could apply in
stretch.

Simplest diagnosis would be to purge chromium from the template and
restart the qube to see if they are then picked up in the mixer.
Otherwise start looking journalctl and logs.

Our hardware certification process:

https://www.qubes-os.org/hardware-certification/

We have had discussions with ~5-10 manufacturers, including those you
reference, and so far only Purism has followed through with the hardware
certification process for Qubes 3.x.

Note that Librems currently do not meet the requirements for Qubes 4.x
branch:

https://www.qubes-os.org/news/2016/07/21/new-hw-certification-for-q4/

We would love to have more manufacturers and hardware certified, both
for 3.x and 4.x. There are some (potentially) on the horizon, like:

https://minifree.org/product/libreboot-d16/

Feel free to search this mailing list for past discussions on Purism.

[qubes-users] pb with fedora templates

2017-02-19 Thread haaber
Hello,

I ask about some help to get fedora running again. Some history of my
"accident". I had installed qubes 3.2 around Christmas with f23 on
board. I installed f24 from scratch, it worked well, and deleted then
f23 manually (brutally, I regret). For some time all was fine. Then
something strange happened, that I won't understand. Suddenly Fedora
template worked no more (since then I live on debian, until I realised
that f24-minimal works well - which works as my sys-firewall) but
"full" f24 don't even start. All I have is:

[ME@dom0 vm-templates]$ qvm-start fedora-24
--> Loading the VM (type = TemplateVM)...
--> Starting Qubes DB...
--> Setting Qubes DB info for the VM...
--> Updating firewall rules...
--> Starting the VM...
--> Starting the qrexec daemon...
Waiting for VM's qrexec agent...failed
ERROR: Cannot execute qrexec-daemon!

So I tried it the windows way (smile) : deleted f24 via qubes-manager
and reinstalled (command line) - no change! It is still dead, and I feel
once more stupid :) Must be some config file mess-up that survives
uninstall. I realise that disp-vm is still configured to the
non-existent f-23, that may be part of the proble.

So any hint is appreciated. Thanks, Bernhard

[qubes-users] Re: boot problem after switching bios from uefi to legacy to uefi

2017-02-19 Thread joe . m

 Quoting jo...@vfemail.net:

hi.
since i saw multiple people posting things about aem, i thought i would
also setup aem.

i looked at

https://github.com/QubesOS/qubes-antievilmaid/blob/master/anti-evil-maid/README

and saw i need to use legacy.
i installed my system while booting uefi and then switched to legacy.
i was not sure whether the system could boot again, but if it did not
boot, i would switch back again.

after switching to legacy, the system did not boot (i am not sure wheter
it should boot normally after switchin, of if that does not work).
after switching back to uefi, it still does not boot
is there a way to fix this?

also when looking at the bios, i did not find an option for TPM or TXT.
but there is some stuff like secure boot mode/control with pks (could
this be it?)
or does my laptop mybe not have this feature?

some system info:
msigp60
bios version E16GDIMS.30B (build date: 23/08/2013)

should i update the bios? (maybe the old bios version does not display
the tpm option)

i am grateful for any ideas.
wit best regards.
joe mitchell

managed to fix this!

the problem seems to be:
efi forgot the entry

i found a guide via:
https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=204585#p1063821
-> http://www.rodsbooks.com/efi-bootloaders/installation.html#register

here my guide for perople as stupid as me. (maybe you can add this to
your doc)
1) create a qubes install media (have fun verifying the master key again)
2) boot it and select the recovery entry (last entry)
3) select continue (oprion 1)
4) enter your key
5) hit enter (to get a shell)
6) chroot /mnt/sysimage
7) fdisk -l to find your efi dev (we assume it is /dev/sda1)
8) use efibootmgrt to fix your efi.
efibootmgr -c -d /dev/sda -p 1 -l \\EFI\\qubes\\xen.efi -L qubes
9) reboot

on lenovo you may have to use a different name.
according to
http://www.rodsbooks.com/efi-bootloaders/installation.html#register :
'Also note that at least one manufacturer (Lenovo) ships products with
a known bug that causes the system to refuse to boot unless the boot
loader's name (NewLoader in this example) is either Windows Boot
Manager or Red Hat Enterprise Linux.'

with best regards.

you will be able to run that programs seamless only by using same
Linux distro that was used as a template VM for your appVM.
Also you will need all dependent package to be present in your current linux.
mount appvm private image, tar /home/user , untar to some new user
home dir in your Linux, then try to login as that user and run those
programs from console.
If lucky - them start seamless. If not (most probably) you 'll have
some erors in console about missing libraries and so on,
Sure there could be other problems, but if you're lucky you'll be able
to add dependencies.

myself with the screen unusable and unable to gain access to the keyboard
commands in the guest os.
If you can still help, I can at least access to 800x600 putting this command at
startup (E key) in Grub (instead of quiet) put vga=792. You can also put this
persistent setting in the Grub configuration file, but maybe it would be better
to use the new command gfxpayload=resolution.

For Windows 10 instead I can not set the 1366x768 resolution, other resolutions
work. I think it is the fault of the Xen drive.

I hope someone help both.

[qubes-users] How to launch qubes AppVM without qubes os?

2017-02-19 Thread Arqwer
I have all files from one of my standalone Qubes 3.0 AppVM. There are some
programs that I can't manage to run in my current Linux setup, but they were
running fine in that Qubes AppVM. So I want to use that AppVM under ordinary
Linux. How can I do that?
