[qubes-users] Backup header retrieval failed (exit code 2) after qvm-backup restore

2017-08-03 Thread Grzesiek Chodzicki
After attempting to restore vm backup, following error message is displayed:
Backup header retrieval failed (exit code 2)

Since this message appears regardless of the passphrase entered I assume it
means that the passphrase is incorrect. Am I right? If not, what else does this
message indicate?

I did suggest that you check you had downloaded the correct file.
You havent.

Look at this page to understand what is going wrong:
www.gnupg.org/gph/en/manual/x135.html

You need to download the SIGNATURE - I stressed this before.
It's on the SIGNATURE button and is file - Qubes-R3.2-x86_64.iso.asc

How it works : the Qubes devs use their Key to generate a Signature for
the iso.
You download the signing key, signature and iso.
You IMPORT the key.
Then you verify the iso against the signature.

You are trying to verify the iso against the KEY.

Look at this page again:
www.qubes-os.org/security/verifying-signatures/

Once you get the idea, it should be easier for you.
Try it again.

2017-08-03 Thread frkla1234
Hi unman,

thx for the response!

I will do each step slowly and poste each problem separate ;-)

Let`s begin with the first step:

1. Download the "qubes-release-3-signing-key.asc" (PGP Key) from
https://www.qubes-os.org/downloads/ and save in the directory Downloads where
qubes .iso is

2. Command in terminal [Downloads]:
gpg -v --verify '/home/user/Downloads/qubes-release-3-signing-key.asc'
'/home/user/Downloads/Qubes-R3.2-x86_64.iso'

Answer from terminal:
gpg: armor header: Version: GnuPG v1
gpg: verify signatures failed: unexpected data

3. Check permission of "qubes-release-3-signing-key.asc"

Owner: Me
Access: read and write

Group: user
Access: read and write

Others:
Access: read- only

What else should I check?

Re: [qubes-users] Qubes OS 4.0 first release candidate (rc1) has been released!

2017-08-03 Thread Micah Lee
I've finally got Qubes 4.0-rc1 booted! I've got a couple questions.

Without the VM Manager, is there a GUI way to delete VMs? I know you can
run "qvm-remove" from a dom0 terminal.

Is there a GUI way to start VMs without actually opening an application
in them? (I often configure stuff to autostart when the VM is started.)

I'm also noticing some strange USB VM stuff. On this computer I've opted
to make sys-net both my netvm and usbvm, and I've confirmed that sys-net
has my USB controller PCI devices attached.

By default, my sys-net uses memory balancing, even though it has the
warning message, "Dynamic memory balancing can result in some devices
not working!" Should I turn off memory balancing?

The devices systray applet thing for me lists these devices:

sys-firewall:1-1 QEMU_QEMU_USB_Tablet_42
sys-net:2-7 8087_07dc
sys-net:2-8 SunplusIT_INC._Integrated_Camera
dom0:mic Microphone

What is this qemu thing in sys-firewall? When I run lsusb in
sys-firewall I see two devices, "Adomax Technology Co., Ltd" and "Linux
Foundation 1.1 root hub". I confirm that sys-firewall doesn't have any
USB controller PCI devices. But even weirder, when I boot a different
AppVM, like personal, lsusb shows me the same USB devices, but it
doesn't appear in the Qubes devices systray applet.

And finally, when I plug in a USB device, the systray applet doesn't
seem to see it. I plugged in a Yubikey, and when I run qvm-usb in dom0
it displays:

sys-net:2-1 Yubico_Yubikey_4_OTP+U2F+CCID

And running lsusb in sys-net displays it as well. But the devices
dropdown doesn't list this.

Also, I noticed that qrexec clients now require an extra step. If I run
"qvm-copy-to-vm work example.txt" in my personal AppVM, the dom0 window
that pops up asks me to select the target ("work", in this case) before
clicking OK to allow it. This seems fine to me, and in fact I like how
clear it's being, but "work" isn't pre-filled in, so I have to manually
select it, or type it, each time, instead of just pressing enter.

Finally, pro tip: In xfce, and especially in Qubes, I find pressing
Alt-F3 and typing the name of a program much quicker than using the
start menu. If I want to open Firefox in the personal AppVM, I type
"personal:" and it shows me all the menu entries for personal, and
"personal: f" is enough to select Firefox by pressing enter.

[qubes-users] Fedora 25 TemplateVM upgrade fails

2017-08-03 Thread Gaijin
I was upgrading some R3.2 templates from Fedora 24 to 25, and in one
TemplateVM I keep getting an error after the distro-sync step of the
upgrade. After accepting a bunch of keys the install fails with:

Public key for rpmfusion-free-appstream-data-25-3.fc25.noarch.rpm is not
installed
Failing package is rpmfusion-free-appstream-data-25-3.fc25.noarch
GPG Keys are configured as:
file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-rpmfusion-free-fedora-25

How do I get the right key in here so that I can continue with the
upgrade?

Never used a stopwatch ;-) A little less than 4 hrs, I guess.

WLAN ist working fine, and since the last kernel updates the problems
seem to have gone almost completely away. I'm fully rebooting the laptop
perhaps every 2 weeks, and most of the time due to a kernel update (or
running out of battery).

Forgot about LVM, step 5 should be:
5) `mount /dev/qubes_dom0/root /mnt`

If that does not work, run `pvscan; vgscan; lvscan` and try again.

Assuming you left the root account disabled (as is the default),
you'll have to:

1) boot the Qubes install media
2) switch to unused TTY by pressing Ctrl+Alt+F
3) determine which /dev/sdX device is the one containing your Qubes
installation (eg. using `lsblk`; next steps assume it's /dev/sdb)
4) run `cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/sdb2 qubes` to unlock the encrypted
root drive
5) `mount /dev/mapper/qubes /mnt`
6) `chroot /mnt`
7) `passwd user` (where "user" is your Qubes login)
8) type in a new password and confirm
9) press Ctrl+D
10) type `reboot`
