Yep I just realised that the ISO is actually an Installer. What I did is

1) DD'ed the ISO to a 32GB flash drive and the boot on it.

2) I plugged my 1TB usb drive

The Qubes installer starts and I see the "Destination" option

However it doesn't allow me to select my 100GB partition. The drive is there
but all it says is "100Mb free" and I don't see any partition.

(I had create the partition using exFat, should it be FAT32?)

2018-08-29 Thread pieter lems
sorry pretty new to this google groups,
again yes its possible. you should be carefull since dual booting can
comprimes security in some ways. (read the qubes docs for more info)
when installing just select the 100gb parition en select clear space and it
should work. Again i would recommend to instal it on another drive if your
dual booting. im planning on creating a tut, if you want it , it should be
online in like a week or 2.

[qubes-users] Install Qubes on a specific partition ?

2018-08-29 Thread octavio . martin1212
Hello,

I have a 1TB usb drive which is not empty (Has around 10GB of files that I wish
to keep)
I have created a partition of 100GB on this drive.

Is it possible to install Qubes only on that partition ? The Install doc does
say "use the whole disk rather than a partition" but is that a best practice or
will it fail all together ?

Thanks!

GFI block Tor and require registration so I cant help with the actual
product.

You tried the right thing with the HVM installation. The "no supported
drive found" error is one you would need to take up with GFI. (Boot the
HVM with a live iso and check what disks you have available.)

You should be able to use a converted disk image - the syntax is right
but you neglected to type "cat" - I assume just a typo.
Just to be on the safe side mount the root.img and make sure it looks
proper.
In 4.0 the images are no longer in /var/lib/qubes/ but are block devices under
/dev/ - useful named symlinks under /dev/mapper.
The syntax you are using to create the HVM looks right.

Please don't top post.

Dod you check the logs on sys-usb to make sure that the process has not
crashed there?

This is an option on installation.
If you didn't create it before then you can do so manually or by using
salt in dom0:
sudo qubesctl state.sls qvm.sys-usb

Have a look at www.qubes-os.org/doc/usb/

Be warned that the salt formula will hid the usb controllers from dom0 -
if yo use a USB keyboard on boot this is not what you want for obvious
reasons.

Good news: no more disk thrashing with this patch [1] (also attached) and I'm
keeping track of how to properly get rid of this disk thrashing in this [2].

Bad news: I made the patch and I've no idea how good it is(since I am noob :D)
and what are the side-effects of using it. Likely a better patch can be made!
(but none who know how to do it right have answered/helped yet :D so ... it's,
for me, better than nothing)

I'm not going to post here anymore, to allow OP to be answered (since, it seems
to be a different issue)

Re: [qubes-users] Re: Whonix 14 - Updated, just lost Tor Browser for Whonix-dvm??

2018-08-29 Thread code9n
I gave up on trying to back date whonix - there's so much about it on Whonix /
Whonix-Qubes website and warnings about messing with the clock in Whonix ws
konsole I didn't want to mess about.
Tried (in Whonix ws) update-torbrowser chosing 7.5.6 but got the signature
expired message so in the end I just went with 8.a10 which propagated fine into
the whonix dvms. (There was a message somewhere on torproject.org website
saying that 7.5.6 signature was about to run out so maybe it's just over due).
TTB 8 is still in alpha theoretically but has worked fine for me and is
apparently scheduled for release next month anyway.
Just as a side note 'cos it seems relevant; When I updated Whonix to 14 a few
days ago I kept the anon-whonix app vm with the 7.5.6 browser in it and
although that is now based on Whonix 14 it kept ttb 7.5.6 which also runs fine.
so it's not taking it's version of ttb from the Whonix 14 template but keeping
the version of it's own.
  cheers,

Re: [qubes-users] Re: Whonix 14 - Updated, just lost Tor Browser for Whonix-dvm??

2018-08-29 Thread qubes-fan
Hi Peter, I try to figure out (same issue with my whonix-ws-14-dvm Tor Browser)
how my whonix-ws-14 template is nicely containing the Tor Browser, and all VMs
based on it are having it too (working well), and only the whonix-ws-14-dvm
which is based on the same whonix-ws-14 template doesnt have it "updated".  The
dvm should just get the Tor Browser from the whonix-ws-14-dvm same as
anon-whonix for example, right? What am I missing?

Also could you please elaborate more on the

How do I do that?

Hi,

A few days ago, I added a network card, a TP-Link TG-3468. Network card was
recognized. I had no trouble connecting me to the internet immediately.
'lspci' list my network adapter.

Since yesterday and after a system reboot :

1) on startup, I'm getting the following error message : "Failed to load kernel
module"
2) when I try to connect with the ethernet, I'm getting "Disconnected - The
network connection has been disconnected"

I cannot work it out ...

If annyone can point me to what's wrong will be great.
