kernel and I was able to install the driver successfully. Aside from that,
the only other thing I had to do was manually run the command to upgrade
grub when there is a kernel update in the template VM and I want to boot
from it.

screwing around and am working on submitting an HCL now. I did run
into post installation issues, but those were due to a typo in my boot
args, and correcting nouveau.modeset=0 (was nouveau.nomodeset=0) cleared
that bit up for me.
